Mrs. Hunter was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Pampa. She was a nurse's aide for 14 years. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Monday in San Jon Cemetery of San Jon, N.M. Mrs. Kaltenborn was born in Bard, N.M. She started to school in Fairview, better known as Pumpkin Center, a one-room school. The Fairview School closed and students went to San Jon. She graduated from San Jon High School in 1950. She was valedictorian of her senior class. She moved to Amarillo and attended Draughn's Business College and Amarillo College. She lived in Amarillo for 30 years and moved to Fort Worth where she lived for 11 years before returning to Amarillo. She married Robert E. Kaltenborn in Clovis, N.M., in 1953. They divorced in 1962. She worked in Amarillo for Swift & Co. Ice Cream and Swift & Co. Meat for 15 years as cashier and assistant office manager. She worked at Amarillo AFB for 21/2 years as a clerk typist and in civilian payroll. She worked for Brodie Enex Pipeline Construction Co. for a year doing payroll and Kraft Foods (Cheese Co.) for a year as cashier and comptometer operator. She also worked at Meads Bread Co. for two years as comptometer operator. She worked for Melton Clark Hospital Supply for seven years before moving to Fort Worth doing payroll and full charge bookkeeper. In Fort Worth she worked for Pangburn Chocolate Manufacturing Co. and a lawyer, doing his payroll and his toy store business. She worked for Reese Custom Floors and also did books for Ultra Cuts Inc.(a side business of one of Reese's sons) for eight years. After returning to Amarillo, she worked at J.C. Penny's as a sales clerk. Over the years she did jobs in department stores and food places plus data processing for banks. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband on Feb. 3, 1994. Survivors include a son, Michael Wayne Kaltenborn; two sisters, Dora Lee Reeves of Amarillo and Dollie Bailey and husband, Truitt, of Weatherford; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Tucker was born in Boxelder, Red River County, and had been a resident of Vega for several years. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church. She married William Thomas Tucker on July 17, 1936, in Annona. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 13, 1976; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Garner was born in Missouri. He married Dorothea Leonard in 1943. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was called to preach in 1948. He and his wife moved to Amarillo in 1953. He started Grace Baptist Church in Amarillo and it grew to a membership of over 2,000 people. He retired from preaching in 1995 while at Central Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife in April 2002; and two brothers, Robert Earl Garner in 1988 and James E. Garner in 1996. He was a retired boilermaker of local union 531. Serving with the 36th Division, 142nd Infantry in World War II in Italy, France and Germany, he was awarded the following medals; silver star with cluster, good conduct medal, combat infantry badge, presidential unit citation and foreign award of French Croix de Guerre (medal of honor). He was a member of Masonic Lodge 731, Shriners Scottish Rite and the National Rifle Association. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Rivers was born in Snyder on Oct. 13, 1916. He married Eleanor Olene Hodges on Sept. 4, 1939, in Canadian. She preceded him in death in 1991. He worked in the farm and ranch business in his youth and then spent 49 years with the Santa Fe Railway as a brakeman and conductor. Mr. Rivers served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Amarillo and Survivors of Iwo Jima Association of Wichita Falls. He was also involved in the Masonic Lodge No. 731, Amarillo and Consistory in Lubbock holding a 32nd degree. He and his brother, Horace, hunted Indian artifacts for 60 years and were involved in the Panhandle Archeological Association of Amarillo. He was also a life member of the United Transportation Union. Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Wooldridge, Sallie Amason, Lola Hornstra and Loretta Redmon, all of Amarillo, and Kay Cockrell of Katy; five sons, Wayne Rivers, David Rivers, Johnny Rivers and Michael Rivers, all of Amarillo, and Steven Rivers of Portland, Ore.; three brothers, Horace Rivers of Canadian, Merle Rivers of Long Beach, Calif., and Strawder Rivers of Bullard; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 11, 2002 Canyon Joe Winford King Joe Winford King, 79, of Canyon, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Holley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Petersburg Cemetery in Petersburg. Mr. King was born June 21, 1923, in Rochester to John Wesley King and Ida Perry. He had only just begun college at Weatherford Junior College when the United States was drawn into World War II. Resolutely determined to fight for his country, Joe entered the Navy and served on the USS Tangier, a seaplane tender, in the Pacific Theatre for the duration of the war, receiving four campaign ribbons. Following his service in the Navy, Joe completed college at McMurry and began his career as an educator. In his 40-year career, he was at different times a history teacher and coach in Petersburg, Anton, Lorenzo and Lubbock high schools. He was a teacher and coach at Sul Ross College and McCamey High School. He was a principal at Lockney and Tulia high schools and a superintendent and athletic director at Nazareth. In 1973, along with his daughter, he was inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame, the only father and daughter so honored. He also coached tennis at West Texas A&M University in Canyon. His WT team won the Lone Star Championship and he was named Coach of the Year in 1991. He was a part president of the Lion's Club of Tulia, was a founder of the Lion's Club of Nazareth and was an active member of the Canyon Lion's Club as well. In his retirement, and until his declining health intervened, Joe traveled when he could, to be with his children and to watch his grandchildren play high school and college sports. Every spring and summer, he carefully nurtured and tended his garden. Even in his 70s, he was still competing in local tennis tournaments. And from his easy chair, he "followed" just about every college and professional sport that newspapers would report and that television would broadcast. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley King and Ida Perry King; and a sister, Pauline (King) Hewitt. Survivors include his wife, Ola Joyce; a son, Johnny Wayne King and wife, Diane (Moore), of Kaufman; two daughters, Judy Elaine and husband, Gary Daniel White, of Salina, Kan., and Kimla Gayle and husband, John Leon Crossno, of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Oliver King of Plainview; two sisters, Lou (King) DuFour of San Clemente, Calif., and Fanny (King) Carlisle of Kress; and four grandchildren, Heath J.
