Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the family plot in Higgins. Arrangements are by Minton-Chatwell Funeral Home in Panhandle. Mr. Satterwhite was born in Ellis County, Okla., to Alvis L. and Ethel McQuigg Satterwhite on July 10, 1924. He spent his career with Cities Service/Williams Oil Co. until he retired in 1985. His wife of 59 years, Eva Bouton Satterwhite, and their three sons and their families mourn his passing. Beyond his devotion to his family, he had a passion for making engines function, from his work to the airplane he piloted, to rebuilding cars, as well as enjoying motorcycles and motorboats. Family outings to the lake for water skiing filled weekends and vacations as he and his sons mastered both regular and trick skis. As the sons left the scene for higher education, he and his wife spent many happy days fishing together based in their fifth-wheel "home away from home." In retirement, he did woodworking projects, specializing in creating aspen pole beds for family members. He served 26 months in the Philippines in World War II with an Army tank division, bringing home the memento of malaria. Appreciation is extended to the skills and kindness of Drs. Nawaz and Tekeste, and the Hospice team of Marsha Carter and Dr. Drew. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Larry Satterwhite and wife, Sandy, of College Station, Matt Satterwhite of Canyon, and Kent Satterwhite and wife, Lynne, of Fritch; a sister, Helen Joe Satterwhite of Albuquerque, and her sons Kurt and Scott; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Page and husband, Neal, Kristy Williams and husband, Clayton, Kamron Satterwhite and wife, Keyonna, Seth Satterwhite and wife, Rachel, Carrell and husband, Joey, Andy Satterwhite, Nicole Satterwhite, Ben Satterwhite, Drew Satterwhite, and Clair Satterwhite; five great-grandchildren, Charles Alvis Satterwhite, Jade Satterwhite, Jonas Satterwhite, Ella Satterwhite, and Lyra Satterwhite; numerous cousins and many members of the Bouton family. Burial will be in Memorial Heights Cemetery in Lefors. Mr. Heard was a resident of Pampa for about 20 years, moving from Tulia. He was an Army veteran, serving during peace time. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 15, 2002 Mathilde Emily Entreken SPEARMAN - Mathilde Emily Entrekin, 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, in Spearman. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Hansford Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home-Spearman. Mrs. Entreken was a teacher. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Spearman. Survivors include three daughters, Florence Pendley of Rockwall, Jane McFarland of Amarillo, and Edith Eddleman of Spearman; two sisters, Otta May Cooke of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mary Ansley of Idaho; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 15, 2002 Aaron Rawls Carthel FLOYDADA - Aaron Rawls Carthel, 88, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, in Floydada. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony D. Sisemore officiating and the Rev. Jimmy McGuire assisting. Burial will be in Floyd County Memorial Park by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mr. Carthel was born Dec. 2, 1913, in Lockney to the late William Arthur and Lillie Steele Carthel. He attended grammar school in Prairie Chapel and graduated from Lockney High School in 1934. He married Lizzie Estelle Byars on Sept. 21, 1935, in Lockney and they moved to Floydada in January 1940. He was a farmer, rancher, Floyd County commissioner and a Phillips 66 jobber for 35 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol from 1942 to 1944 and held a commercial pilot's license. He also coached basketball for FISD in 1942. Other civic contributions include serving on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce, Floydada Country Club, Floyd County Museum, People's Hospital and serving as vice president of the Floydada Board of Education for eight years. He was selected as Pioneer Man of the Year in 1995. Mr. Carthel helped build many community facilities including the baseball field, the city park tennis courts, the country club golf course and club house, the city pool and Floydada Nursing Home. He also helped build the Dynagreen Fertilizer Plant in Hurlwood during his affiliation with Phillips 66. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cap Carthel and A.C. Carthel; two sisters, Rose Lee Cooley and Dee Ritchey and a great-grandchild, Jonah Byers Adams. Survivors include his wife, Estelle Carthel; two sons and their wives, Gary and Doris Carthel and Hulon and Anne Carthel, all of Floydada; a daughter and her husband, Fletta and Monroe Shannon of Shamrock; three brothers, Lavern Carthel and Cecil Carthel, both of Lockney, and Ray Gene Carthel of Amarillo; two sisters, Velma Harrison of Lockney and Lillian Mae Rogers of Lovington, N.M.; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mrs. Aduddell was born Nov. 29, 1929, in Dalhart. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stratford. She was a Stratford resident most of her life. She married Bill Aduddell on Nov. 20, 1948, in Tucumcari, N.M. Her husband preceded her in death in 1991. She is survived by a daughter, Billie Knight of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Phillip, Theresa and Heather; and four great-grandchildren. Bishop Alsie Henry Carleton died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in St. John's United Methodist Church in Lubbock. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Carlsbad, N.M. Bishop Carleton was born on June 22, 1910, at Oglesby. He and Mrs. Carleton moved to Craig Memorial Methodist Retirement Center in Amarillo in 1997. He received his bachelor of arts degree from McMurry University in Abilene and his bachelor of divinity degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Both institutions later named him a distinguished alumnus. He also studied at the graduate schools of the University of Chicago and Boston University. Bishop Carleton held the honorary degrees of doctor of divinity from Texas Wesleyan College and an L.L.D. from McMurry University. Before his marriage to Artha Blair Crutchfield in 1936, he was appointed to the Methodist Church of Trent, near Abilene. They began their family life there. He was pastor for churches in Northwest and West Texas including St. John's United Methodist Church, where he served from 1942-1948. He was pastor of University Park Methodist Church in Dallas, taught at Perkins School of Theology and was elected bishop in 1968. For the next 12 years, he presided as bishop over the Northwest Texas and New Mexico Conferences of the United Methodist Church. While he served with distinction on many boards and agencies of the United Methodist Church, he considered his most lasting contributions were as president of the Board of Pensions, in instituting the first pension system for the church at large, and in fostering Christian education through serving Methodist colleges and universities as presiding bishop, trustee and advocate of planned giving. Bishop Carleton is survived by his wife; a daughter, Carolyn Carleton Campsey of Amarillo; two sons, Dr. Thomas Carleton of San Angelo, and Jonathan Carleton of Santa Fe, N.M.; and one grandson, Tatsuhiro Carleton of San Angelo. Fifth Ave. Miss Solis lived in Cheyenne and worked for the Southeast Mental Health Department for the last three years. Mayhue, 75, of Amarillo died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Dustin Bingham, a grandson and minister of First Baptist Church of New Kensington, Pa., officiating. Mr. Mayhue was born in Seminole, Okla., to Amos and Mamie Lightsey Mayhue. He married Billie Cleghorn on April 30, 1947, in Amarillo. He was a retired truck driver for Red Ball Motor Freight, and was a member of the Teamsters Local 577. He was also a member of Bykota Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. In her younger years, Mrs. Harrell enjoyed training saddle bred horses and was an experienced rider and jumper. She enjoyed spending time reading and caring for her family. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all she touched. She took to heart a quote from Will Rogers: "That there is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of man." She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Lynch; and a sister, LaVon Lutz. She was a member of South Georgia Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 23, 1997; her brother, Lester Raymond Spencer on May 6, 2002; and her son, Charles Douglas Spencer, on Nov. 4, 1968. Mr. Duffy was a retail specialist with the Fleming Co. until retiring in 1991. During World War II he served in the Army. Arrangements are by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. Mrs. Rosemai Beckner Mitchell was born on Nov. 23, 1905, in Dallas to Joseph Franklin Beckner and Laura Elizabeth McCook Beckner. She lived in Los Angeles for many years, moving back to Clayton to be near her family in 1985. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Maggie Oliver and Beulah Maude Beckner; four brothers, Ernest Beckner, Hess Beckner, Gilbert Beckner and B.F. Beckner; and a half-brother, Emil Beckner. Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
