Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Lazbuddie Cemetery. Mrs. Payne was born May 7, 1907, in Fort Cobb, Okla. She married William Earl Payne in Lorenzo. Survivors include a daughter, Pauline McDonald of Hereford; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Aaron Reed, officiating. Burial will be in the Bovina Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home. Mrs. Bowen had been living in Lubbock for the past 10 years, moving there from Bovina. She was a retired postal worker. Survivors include a sister, Ruby Bishop of Dallas. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 18, 2002 Charles E. Bishop DALHART - Charles E. Bishop, 68, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Dalhart Church of Christ with Dean Whaley, minister of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Bishop was born July 5, 1934, in Dalhart to George W. and Ruth A. (Wood) Bishop. He was raised in Dalhart and graduated from Dalhart High School in 1952. He married Ronnye Wright on Feb. 6, 1955, in Dalhart. He was a railroad engineer and member of the BLE. He retired in 1994. He was a member of the Church of Christ and an avid golfer. He enjoyed being involved with the New Life Behavior-Prison Ministries. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kyle Bishop of Los Angeles and Kevin Bishop and wife, Laurie, of Fort Worth; a daughter, Tonya Styron and husband, Scott, of Lovelady; a brother, Ronnie Bishop of Clinton, Okla.; three sisters, Pat Radford of Dalhart, Bobbie King of West Plains, Mo., and Edith Tidrick of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 18, 2002 Amarillo James A. Wilson James A. Wilson, 80, of Amarillo, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today in St. Paul United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be Tuesday in Berea, Ky. Local arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Wilson was born in Big Hill, Ky., and had been a a resident of Amarillo for more than 30 years. He served in the Army and was in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded five bronze stars. He was with the 224 Salvage Repair Co. and the First Army Division during which time he served in England, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. He was an instructor at Texas A&M University, teaching specialized courses in water and sewage treatment. He served the State of Texas as supervisor of water quality board and water development and was the regional supervisor for 10 years. He retired in 1981 after 21 years of service. Then he started and established a bridge studio and taught many classes. He started the Bridge Club in Canyon and attained the status of life master. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee. Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Wilson; a brother, Billy Wilson; four sisters, Cleo Brown, Doris Mastin, Glenna King and Gail Peak; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the American Diabetes Association. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 18, 2002 Ruby Dell Goodwin Ruby Dell Goodwin, 84, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002. A memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Goodwin was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Hedley, to John and Ollie Aldridge. She had been a longtime resident of Amarillo. She married LeRoy Goodwin in 1942 in Memphis. She graduated salutatorian from Hedley High School and attended Amarillo College. She and her husband owned and operated LeRoy's Watch and Gun Shop in Amarillo for 40 years. She also worked at Northwest Texas Hospital and was a home care provider. She was a Girl Scout leader and nursery and pre-school Sunday school teacher. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the NRA. She was a woman of deep faith, a skilled artisan and pianist, and a devoted wife and mother. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Lena May Harkness. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Goodwin of Winchester, Va; a daughter, Carolyn Thurmon and husband, Bill, of Amarillo; a brother, Jesse Aldridge of Amarillo; a sister, Jonnie Schaffer of Del Norte, Colo.; two beloved grandchildren, Katherine Saideman of Dollard des Ormeaux, Quebec, and Elizabeth Berry of Burke, Va.; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Private committal services will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Tipps was born in Perrin on Aug. 7, 1911. He attended Weatherford Junior College and earned a master's degree at Texas Tech. His careers included teaching in McCamey, Kilgore and Houston. He had administrative responsibilities at SMU, Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, The Texas Methodist Foundation, First Methodist Church in Houston and Polk Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo. He married Dena Roe in 1934. She preceded him in death in 1988. In 1989 he married Martha Maxwell. He was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Martha; a daughter, Angela Peck of Mountain View, Calif.; a son, Maurice Tipps of Cortez, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Judith McDaniel and Nancy Maxwell; three grandchildren, David Peck, Steven Peck and Karen Sauer; and a great-grandson, Andrew Sauer. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Tomlin was born in Amarillo and raised in St. Louis, Mo. He joined the Army Signal Corps in 1967 and was discharged in 1969. He was a skilled cabinet maker and carpenter. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Michael Tomlin, in 1994; his mother, Mary Tomlin, in 1989; a sister, Caroline Tomlin, in 1999; and a brother, Lester Tomlin Jr., in 2002. The family will be at 2909 Trigg. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 18, 2002 Salvatore Sottile Salvatore "Sam" Sottile, 79, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002. Memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Sottile was born in Ensley, Ala. He married Bette L. Bierlein on Oct. 10, 1946. She preceded him in death on June 5, 1990. He joined the Navy in 1941 and served in World War II before being discharged in 1948. After being discharged he moved to Moorestown, N.J., in 1948 and worked for A&P as a meat cutter. While working for A&P he moved to Mapel Shade, N.J., until his retirement in 1973. After his retirement he moved to Seaford, Del., and then to Bushland in 1999. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and of the VFW Post No. 430. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Ms. Schoenung was born June 11, 1932, in Dayton, Ohio. She was the daughter of Martin and Helen Schoening. She graduated as a registered nurse in Dayton. She served three years as a nurse in the Navy. She moved to Amarillo in 1970 to become the office nurse and office manager for Dr. Lee M. Harris, Amarillo's first hematologist-oncologist. At the time of her retirement in 1997, she was the office manager and nurse for Dr. Martin Schneider of Amarillo. Survivors include two sisters, Martha Shadoan of Dayton and Suzanne Schoening, both of Amarillo; two brothers, Donald Schoenung of Kettering, Ohio, and Norbert Schoening and wife, Naomi, of Phillipsburg, Ohio; nieces; nephews; grandnieces; grandnephews; and loving friends. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 18, 2002 New Mexico Mary Sampier CLAYTON, N.M. - Mary Sampier, 91, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church of Clayton with the Rev. Clifford Sampier officiating. Burial will be in Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors. Mrs. Sampier was born March 29, 1911, to William Avery Daves and Gustava "Gussie" (Morgan) Daves. She was a lifelong resident of Clayton and a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include a son, Clifford Sampier of Littleton, Colo.; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 18, 2002 Oklahoma Pearl Leona Sizemore Huston BOISE CITY, Okla. - Pearl Leona Sizemore Huston, 92, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church of Boise City with Harold James and Billy Rammage officiating. Burial will be in Boise City Cemetery by Cimarron Mortuary. Mrs. Huston was born May 30, 1910, in Cimarron County near the present town of Boise City. She was one of nine children born to Joel Amos and Mary Francis (Molly) Sizemore who were early pioneers to the "No-Man's Land" of Oklahoma and was one of the first newborns of this frontier. She married Alfred Carey Huston on Dec. 22, 1928, and they soon moved into the city limits of Boise City. To this union four children were born: Lester Dennis, Mary Louise, Lewis Carlton and Leona Lucille. She lived in Boise City all of her life and had the same residence for more than 60 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Boise City most of her life and was known for her wonderful cinnamon and dinner rolls which she made for a lot of funerals in Boise City area. She had a great love for people and traveling and continued to make visiting trips with family members even after she became blind. A lot of people in the Boise City area referred to her as Grandmother and she will be deeply and sadly missed by both family and friends. She truly made an impact on a lot of people's lives with her sweet smile, laughter and the deep Christian love and gentleness she always exhibited and projected. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; two sisters; her husband of 43 years; and a son, Lewis. Survivors include a son, Lester Dennis Huston and wife, Shirley, of Longmont, Colo.; two daughters, Mary Louise Cullop and husband, Dean, of Woodward and Leona Lucille Moore of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren and families; 32 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church in Boise City; or to the Camp Billy Joe in Kenton in care of the mortuary.
