Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lieb Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Gumfory and Leonard Harper officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Jarvis was born Aug. 21, 1907, in a dugout six miles northeast of Gruver. Her parents, Charles C. and Anne Amy Beck, were pioneers in settling Hansford County. She graduated from Spearman High School in 1926. She attended West Texas A&M University, then known as West Texas Normal University. After a year she began to teach in a country school near her home. When Gruver school was started, she was the first teacher hired. She taught school and attended college in the summer until 1933. Then she returned to West Texas and graduated in 1934. She then taught at Farwell and Roswell, N.M., until she married Billy Jarvis on April 6, 1940. When her husband was called to active duty in the spring of 1941, she followed him to Washington, D.C., and Albuquerque, N.M. When he was shipped to the Philippines in December 1941, she returned to the Beck Homestead north of Gruver. World War II broke out and her husband's ship was reported sunk. In mid-December, he called saying he was in San Francisco and then he was assigned to Bakersfield, Calif. She traveled to Bakersfield in time for Christmas. She traveled to various bases with her husband until his unit was shipped to the Pacific in the late summer of 1942. When he went overseas she returned to the Beck homestead. In January 1943, a son Billy Britt, was born. Her husband returned to the United States in 1944 and was discharged. They returned to live near Pringle in Hutchinson County. A son, Jon Matheny, was born in 1945. Another son, Robert Scott, was born in 1947 but only survived a few days. She was active in her family and community. She was an active member of Eastern Star, was a Sunday school teacher, church leader, Cub Scout den mother, school supporter, PTA member and officer, a basketball and football fan and a homemaker. She lived in the Pringle-Morse community until 1999, when she moved to Hansford Manor in Spearman. Survivors include two sons, Billy Britt Jarvis of Spearman and Jon Matheny Jarvis of Stinnett; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. L.J. Ehrlich and the Rev. Ray Hennigh officiating. Burial will be in Darrouzett Cemetery by Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mr. Howard was born Sept. 10, 1930, near Logan, Okla. He worked for Phillips Petroleum. He moved to the Panhandle area in 1942, where he worked at Dalhart Rock Island Railroad. He then worked at the Excel Helium Plant in Masterson. Before retiring, he worked as a custodian for the Dumas Independent School System from 1969 to 1985. He attended Valleyview Church of the Nazarene. He married Faye Aline Smith on March 23, 1939, in Hugo, Okla. He was preceded in death by his wife on July 19, 1977; and a son, Royce Lynn Williams on Sept. 7, 1991. Survivors include a son, Billy W. Williams of Amarillo; a daughter, Faye Beth McClung of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Sue Williams of Lubbock; a sister, Willie Sanders of Ralls; two brothers, J.R. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. During her life she was able to touch many lives and will be greatly missed. He worked as a master plumber pipe fitter. He moved to Amarillo in 1946 from Oklahoma. He was a member of Harvest Life Center Church in Amarillo. He was a veteran of the Army, entering the service at Fort Sill, Okla., in August 1943 and was discharged at Camp Chaffee, Ark., in January 1946. He was awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart, which he received when wounded in the EAME Theater on Feb. 17, 1945. Survivors include a son, Ollie Preston Williams of Mangum, Okla.; three daughters, Patricia "Trish" Thompson of Amarillo, Willie Marie Williams of Kenton, Okla., and Dorothy Pottroff of Florida; two brothers, Raymond Williams and Cleo Williams, both of Mangum; four sisters, Mary Jo Taylor of Vinson, Okla., Stella Williams of Oklahoma City, and Irene Reagen and Bertha Cooley, both of Mangum; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Vince Inman of Abundant Life Fellowship of Borger, and the Rev. Roy Wheeler, minister emeritus of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, officiating. Mrs. Stevens was honored Tuesday when her Lord and Savior whispered her name. She was born July 6, 1929, in Caddo, Okla., to David and Edna Horn. She married John D. Stevens Sr. on June 1, 1951. She was a graduate of Frank Phillips College and Baylor University with a bachelor's in fine arts. She was a longtime home service adviser for Southwestern Public Service Co. in the Borger and Amarillo area. She was also a licensed massage and aroma therapist. She blessed our world with her many beautiful paintings and her accomplished gardening skills. We will miss her love, inspiration, wisdom, strength, humor and beauty. She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Garland Horn; and an infant grandson. Mrs. Hodges passed away peacefully after a courageous decade-long battle with cancer. She was born in Easton, Pa., to Stephanie and Joseph Frinzi. She had lived in Amarillo for more than 40 years and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was employed as an accountant for Bush-Emeny Properties for 25 years. She was an avid football fan and was especially fond of the Texas Aggies. She gave generously of her time and knowledge and touched many lives. There are many ways to describe her zest for life but no words to describe the emptiness of her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, John Frinzi, Joe Frinzi, Angelo "Aber" Frinzi and Salvatore "Torrie" Frinzi; and a sister, Nancy Varkonyi. Survivors include her daughter, Janie Hodges D.V.M.; a brother, Anthony "Sonny" Frinzi; two sisters, Francis Ferraro and Fanny Drago; a close family friend, Roger Reed; and Simon Reed, Roger's son who she considered her own. Mrs. Abernathy was a member of Arden Road Baptist Church. During World War II, she worked as a maritime welder. Later in life, she worked for a nursing home in Dumas. She was awarded the Golden Wings for her care and service to others. No one could ask for a better mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Abernathy; and a son, Roy Abernathy. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Abernathy and Vernon Abernathy, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Melverta Gresham of Amarillo; 16 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. She married Orthel C. Sumner in Clovis, N.M., on Aug. 2, 1942. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda Kellum. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dwight Sumner of Plano and Richard Sumner of Amarillo; two sisters, Rhoda Savage and Thelma Brockmeyer, both of Amarillo; four granddaughters, Kimberly Moore of Plano, Kristen Knight of Southlake, Amy Sumner of Denver and Emily Blaut of Amarillo; and four great-grandchildren.
