Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Randy White, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Tarpley was born Dec. 4, 1909, in Matoy, Okla. She came to Pampa in 1929 from Shamrock. She married Louis Tarpley in 1925, he preceded her in death in 1962. She and her husband owned and operated Tarpley Music Store for many years. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sonshine Club. She organized and chaired the First Baptist Church High School Senior Banquet for 45 years. In 1986 she was selected as Beta Sigma Phi's "Woman of the Year." She was a member of the local hospital auxiliary for many years and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Survivors include a daughter, Donna Ludwick and husband, Jim, of North Richland Hills; two sons, Glenn "Buz" Tarpley and wife, Jewell, of Pampa and Bill Tarpley and wife, Mary Edna, of Amarillo; a sister, Jessie Jett of Tucson; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, 203 N. West, Pampa, TX 79065; or to a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 26, 2002 Barbara Jean Mills CHILDRESS - Barbara Jean Mills, 69, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 in Denver. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Johnny Robertson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Mills was born March 7, 1933, in Oklahoma City. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Joe; two sons, Billy Don Atkinson of Lubbock and Joe Bruce Atkinson of Denver; and two grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Childress Hospice, P.O. Box 1030, Childress, TX 79201. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 26, 2002 Elsewhere Louise Ropes LUBBOCK - Louise Ropes, 57, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002. Mass will be at 2 p.m. today in St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. John Dalton as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors. Mrs. Ropes was born Nov. 27, 1944, in Amarillo to Buster and Margaret Bertrand. She graduated from St. Mary's High School and attended Amarillo College as well as trade school. She worked as a beautician and married Russell Ropes in St. Francis on Feb. 11, 1967. They lived in various places around the globe while he was serving in the armed forces. They moved to Lubbock in August 1989 and she was employed at Reese Air Force Base prior to its closure. She was currently employed by the Veteran's Administration in the clinic as an administrator. Survivors include her husband; a son, Steve Ropes and wife, Misty, of Ropesville; two daughters, Kathy Ropes of Allen and Jeanine Dacus and husband, Don, of Columbia, S.C.; her parents, Buster and Margaret Bertrand of Amarillo; four brothers, Buddy and Lawrence Bertrand, both of Amarillo, Harold Bertrand of Panhandle and Roy Bertrand of Clarendon; a sister, Judy Tomlinson of Canyon; and five grandchildren, Kelsea, Stephen, Jacob, Makenna and Luke. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. today in the Parish Hall at the church. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 26, 2002 Amarillo Bobby "Bo" Gene Hunter Bobby "Bo" Gene Hunter, 72, of Amarillo, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Quail Creek Kingdom Hall with Pat Mills officiating. Arrangements are by Golden Gate Mortuary, 1416 N. Hughes St. Mr. Hunter served in the Naval Branch during the Korean conflict. He was the owner of Hunter's Honda Shop and co-owner along with his wife, Donna, of House of Bargains. He founded and owned Western Optical and went on to be an entrepreneur. Survivors include Barry Hunter, Barbara Sloan, Tim Hunter and Colette Hunter; a stepdaughter, Tiffinee Blough; two grandchildren, Amanda and Alexander; his wife, Donna Hunter; and nephew of Margaret Trimble. Amarillo Globe-News, Aug. 26, 2002 New Mexico Carolyn Bailey CLOVIS, N.M. - Carolyn Bailey, 56, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Central Baptist Church with Dr. Herbert Bergstrom and Deacon Michael Rowley officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Bailey was born July 26, 1946, in Clovis to James and Christine Tinnin Clark. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed various crafts. Survivors include her husband, Mike; two daughters, Mikail Tinker of Albuquerque and Erin Rowley of Clovis; her mother, Christine Reddy of Clovis; mother-in-law, Thelma Bailey of Clovis; a brother, Jimmy Clark of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Cathy Christesson of Melrose; and three grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Plains Regional Medical Home Health and Hospice, 1600 W. 21st, Suite A, Clovis, N.M. 88101.
