Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Kress with the Rev. Jay Simpson, pastor, and the Rev. Bill Fuller, pastor of First Baptist Church in Panhandle, officiating. Burial will be in Kress Cemetery by Bartley-Silva Funeral Home of Plainview. Mr. Sedgwick was born Jan. 12, 1917, in Sherman. He and his wife, Oneta, had lived in Kress since 1965, coming from Ropesville. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronnie Sedgwick of Eagle Lake and Royce Sedgwick of Kress; two daughters, Janelle Hargrove of Sudan and Joyce Golden of Brownfield; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Quillin was born Nov. 9, 1976, in Dalhart to Darrel Quillin and Judy Garcia. He was a baptized Catholic, enjoyed softball and most other outdoor activities. Survivors include his mother, Judy Garcia of Dalhart; his father, Darrel Quillin of Dalhart; his grandmother, Ida Mae Quillin of Dalhart; and three brothers, Stacey Quillin of Dumas, Dustin Quillin of Missoula, Mont., and DJ Quillin of Dalhart. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 2, 2002 LeRoy Chowning FLOYDADA - LeRoy Chowning, 78, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. today in the Floydada Rehabilitation and Care Center with the Rev. Ralph Jackson officiating. Private burial will be in Floydada Cemetery by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mr. Chowning worked with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and was a Floyd County Deputy Sheriff. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps having served during World War II and was active in the National Guard for seven years. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 2, 2002 Oklahoma William Henry Wacker GUYMON, Okla. - William Henry "Bill" Wacker, 53, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Jacobson, pastor, officiating. Private family graveside services will be in Elmhurst Cemetery of Guymon by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors. Mr. Wacker was the son of Dorothy Lucille (Wray) and Henry William Wacker. He was born Aug. 4, 1949, in Tulsa. He was united in marriage to Carol Sapp on Nov. 20, 1982. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was an active and generous volunteer, benefiting many organizations in the area. He was active in racing and was an avid auto sports fan. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Wacker, on Sept. 9, 1988. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Amber Wacker of Denver; a son, Chris Wacker and fiance, Paige, of Guymon; his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Wacker of Guymon; a sister, Ginger Wacker of Copperas Cove, Texas; and two granddaughters, Mackinzie Wacker and Harleigh Wacker. He moved to Albuquerque, N.M., in 1968. He was a retired truck driver and also served in the Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Best, in October 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Northlawn Memorial Gardens of Dumas with Dr. David Evans, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Lummus was born in Sanger and had lived in Amarillo since 1996. She was a school teacher for 50 years in the communities of Pakan, Shamrock, Dumas and Richardson. She married Charles W. Lummus on April 23, 1933. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1956. Survivors include three sons, Charles Russell Lummus and wife, Victoria, of Arlington, Joel Holmes Lummus and wife, Mary, of Amarillo and Charlie Mac Lummus and wife, Melinda Sue, of Farmers Branch; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 2, 2002 Jerall Dee Branson Jerall Dee Branson, 84, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with Bob Thomas, chaplain with Crown of Texas Hospice, officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Mr. Branson was born Sept. 3, 1917, in Hydro, Okla. He attended school in Hydro and Panhandle. He also attended West Texas State University. He married Willie Mae Kemp on March 25, 1939, in Clarendon. He worked for the Texas State Highway Department, the Amarillo Helium Plant and Pantex. In World War II, he served with the 90th Infantry Division under General George Patton. He earned nine medals and commendations for heroism in service, including two purple hearts, distinguished service cross and bronze star. He had also been a Master Mason for more than 60 years, San Jacinto Lodge No. 1330. He accepted the Lord at an early age, and his life was one of service to Him as well as to family and country. His loving, caring and giving spirit will be remembered by family and friends alike. He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 29, 2001; his parents, Marguerite and Frank Branson; and a brother, Eldon. Survivors include numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends. Family and friends will gather an hour before the service at the funeral home for a time of fellowship. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 2, 2002 Elsewhere Fred P. Brien Jr. SAN ANTONIO - Fred P. Brien Jr., 75, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Judith Sellers and Robert Kusenberger officiating. Burial will be in Del Rio Memorial Park. Mr. Brien was born in Amarillo, the son of Ernez Evans and Fred P. Brien Sr. He graduated from Amarillo High School and the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. While at the university, he met Ida Jo Call and they would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on Sept. 24. He spent two years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. In January 1954 he moved to Del Rio to join his father-in-law, Vernon Call, in an automobile dealership. He was a longtime member of the Del Rio Rotary Club, an avid golfer, a member of San Felipe Country Club and a member of First United Methodist Church. He moved to San Antonio with his wife in February 2001 to be closer to his children and for health reasons. The family wants to send their deepest and fondest thanks to the staff at Homewood Residence at Shavano Park and the staff of the LifeCare Hospital in the Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital. If effort and love were the "Magic Bullet" to healing, he would still be with us today. Pallbearers will be: Cecil T.
