Miss Plunkett was the daughter of Robert and Mary Platt Plunkett. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wellington. Survivors include four sisters, Marilyn Jesse of Childress, Julia Perry of Amarillo, Ethel Pankartz of Hydro, Okla., and Ruthie Bradley of Cheyenne, Okla.; and two brothers, Frank Plunkett of Long Beach, Calif., and James Plunkett of Denison. Mr. Monroe was born in Byars on Oct. 9, 1921. He was raised in Hedley, and attended schools there and also in the Cousins Community. He moved to Plainview in 1937. He joined the Army in 1942 as an anti-aircraft gunner. He farmed with Monroe Brothers northwest of Plainview. On July 1, 1960, he married Dorothy Rullie in Plainview. He was a member of Finney Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elzie and Donald Max Monroe. Mr. Doss was born in Tarrant County and had been a long-time resident of Amarillo. He at one time owned and operated West Texas Cattle Co. in Abilene, a livestock brokerage business. He later became a marketing representative with extensive experience in all areas of treatment programs for alcohol and drug abuse. He created and established E.A.P. programs for various companies and had started and supervised a company providing referral and placement of chemical dependants to various treatment facilities. He also had operated a drug testing company that met Department of Transportation and FBI standards. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Garrett, senior pastor, and the Rev. Jordan Grooms, former pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Freeman was born Sept. 26, 1910, in Naples. She spent most of her early years in Texarkana. She was one of seven children. She married Warren Jenkins Freeman at high noon on Thanksgiving Day, 1931, in Fort Worth. The Freemans moved to Amarillo in 1936 where her husband worked for Cunningham Floral Co. and she worked for White and Kirk. In 1938, the two of them opened Freeman's Flowers located at 2119 Washington St. The business flourished and eventually moved to 1810 Washington St. In 1960, as a result of a devastating fire, the business moved to its present location at 2934 Duniven Circle. Mrs. Freeman worked most of her life in the business, retiring when she was 88 years old. She was an active member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; and a grandson, Warren Thomas Freeman, in 1991. Survivors include a son, Warren Freeman of Amarillo; a sister, Jesse Meszaros of Medina, Ohio; two grandsons, Philip Freeman of Bowling Green, Ky., and Wilson Freeman of Amarillo; seven great-grandchildren, Hayden Freeman, Berkley Freeman, Austin Freeman, Hampton Freeman, Wils Freeman, Luke Freeman and Savannah Freeman. Gillman, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Oak Grove Cemetery near Caddo Gap, with Calvin Wayne officiating. Arrangements are by Davis-Smith Funeral Home. Mr. Gillman was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Okmulgee, Okla., the son of John Lebert Gillman and Bulen Smith Gillman. He retired from Travelers Oil Co. in Borger, Texas. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Third and Kilgore Church of Christ with Frank and Marlin Poynor officiating. Burial will be in the Portales Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Mrs. Burkett was born in Poolville, Texas, on Jan. 21, 1921, to Sherman and Zella Smith. She was raised and educated in the Poolville and Southland, Texas, school systems and was highly recognized as a women's basketball standout. She married Elmo Burkett on Dec. 2, 1939, in Alpine, Texas. They were married 52 years prior to his death on Dec. 12, 1991. They moved from Tahoka, Texas, to their farm west of Portales in 1948, where they became well known for their Jersey dairy cattle. For 28 years, from 1963 until 1991, they jointly ran their insurance agency and the H&R Block franchise while continuing their real estate and agricultural interests. Juanita also served as a Roosevelt County elections official and insurance investigator. Her vitality in life was dedicated to loving and giving to her family, her grandchildren and many friends. She was known for her determination, will, work ethic and positive attitude about whatever task she undertook. She often engaged in helping others to help alleviate problems. She leaves a void that will never be filled. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Howard of Plainview, Texas, and Virgil of Slaton, Texas. Survivors include three sons, Jerry of Portales, Jack of Albuquerque, and Bill of Abilene, Texas; one daughter, Bonnie Sue Tomlinson of Canyon, Texas; and two grandchildren, Scott and Aaron Burkett of Dallas. Pallbearers will be Smokey Ball, Leroy Burch, Mark Coleman, Dwayne Hardt, Hank Merrick, Jack Merrick, Nelson Rector, Earl Woods and Delbert Rector. Honorary pallbearers will be all friends and family.
