Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. Mr. Stevenson was a self-employed engineer and mechanic. He married Maria Wolf March in 1958 in Baghdad, Iran. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Dolores Kimball of Kerrville; two sisters, Myrtle Puckett of Muleshoe and Babe Walker of Las Vegas; and nine grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 9, 2002 W.C. Maddox BORGER - W.C. "Bing" Maddox, 87, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Eternal Light Church with Willie Adams, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Pampa by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Maddox was instrumental in the establishment of the Hutchinson County Museum. He retired from J.M. Huber Carbon Black plant in 1976 after being there for 27 years as a mechanic and a machinist. Survivors include a son, Darryl Maddox of Amarillo; a daughter, Dr. Lynn Schwth of Houston; a sister, Pauline Blair; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Grigsby was born to Marcus and Shirley Walker on July 14, 1959, in Houston. She married Jack Grigsby on July 4, 1985, in Fort Worth. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 9, 2002 Henry F. Yauck FOLLETT - Henry F. Yauck, 90, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in St. John's Congregational Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker. Mr. Yauck was born Oct. 31, 1911, in Arnett, Okla., to Fred and Katherine "Katie" Schoenhals Yauck. On April 30, 1940, he married Ruth Helfenbein near Follett, where they made their home and were engaged in farming and ranching. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Marvin Yauck of Austin, Norman Yauck of Darrouzett and Leslie Yauck of Booker; a brother, G.F. She moved to Tulia in 1955 and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. She was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, Ray Vance Gray, in 1973. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Bishop Quarterman was born Aug. 12, 1906, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He attended public schools there and was a graduate of St. Stephen's College and the General Theological Seminary. He was ordained a priest in the parish on Dec. 18, 1931. He served as rector of St. Philip's Parish Episcopal Church in Ardmore, Okla., from 1931 to 1946. Under his leadership, the $32,000 church debt was paid, the organ installed and the parish almost doubled in membership. In 1946, he was appointed rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and he was elected bishop of the missionary district of north Texas by the House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church. He served as a missionary bishop from 1946 to 1958. In 1958, the missionary district became the Diocese of Northwest Texas and he became the first bishop of the new diocese. He served from 1958 to his retirement in 1972. As a missionary bishop and later as diocesan bishop, his 77,000-square-mile jurisdiction saw the founding of 17 new congregations, the establishment of a diocesan conference center north of Amarillo that bears his name, the building of a university student center in Canyon, the funding of a conference center chapel for a companion diocese in Australia, and the raising of an endowment fund of $750,000 which grew to $1 million by his retirement. In 2001 he celebrated 55 years as a bishop and in 2002 was honored as the oldest member of the House of Bishops of the Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by a son, the Rev. George Quarterman, in 1993. Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean; two sons, Bill Quarterman and wife, Gilli, of Northville, Mich., and Robert E. Vogt and wife, Kate, of Amarillo; two daughters, Ann Quarterman of Denver and Janice Vogt Parker and husband, Dick, of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Quarterman of St. Charles, Mo.; grandchildren, David Quarterman of Portland, Ore., Steven Quarterman of McLean, Va., Emily Quarterman of Laramie, Wyo., Carolyn Quarterman of Cary, N.C., and Tracy Parker of Amarillo; and a great-granddaughter, Brynn Ruth Quarterman of Portland. Simpson, 73, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Valleyview Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Larry A. Dunlap officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Simpson was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Caney, Okla. He joined the military at age 17. He was a career military man serving in the Army as a chief warrant officer for more than 20 years. He married Faye Kirkland in Wellington on Nov. 15, 1952. He owned and operated Simpson Heating and Air Conditioning in Amarillo for 18 years. He was an avid fisherman. He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Lynn Simpson, on Sept. 19, 1988; and his mother, Bessie Simpson-Rutledge, on Oct. 19, 2000. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Terry Lee Simpson of Austin, Richard Benny Simpson of Manning, S.C., and Tony Ray Simpson of Blanchard, Okla.; a sister, Betty Feagley of Camarillo, Calif.; two brothers, Bill Simpson of Amarillo and W.B. Mrs. Martin was born Naomi Jean Gibbs on June 30, 1926, in Wichita Falls. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1944 and from Texas Woman's University in 1948. She married Joseph Edward Martin of Fort Worth on July 30, 1949. They were married 51 years until his death in 2001. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Through her travels with her family she lived in Overland Park, Kan., from 1963 to 1985, eventually retiring with her husband in Fort Worth in 1991. She was very active in PEO, local chapter G. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Martin; and a son, Joseph E. Martin Jr. Survivors include three sons, David L. Martin of Gladstone, Mo., John Christopher Martin of Overland Park and Michael A. Martin and wife, Kathy, of Amarillo; and a sister, Lynn Marsh of Amarillo. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 9, 2002 John Anderson Conatser Jr. HEDLEY- John Anderson "Johnny" Conatser Jr., 81, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rowe Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Howard, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Conatser was born July 5, 1921, in Dumas, Moore County, and was a resident of Canyon before moving to Hedley in 1960. He married Edith Dorine Word on Jan. 7, 1948, in Wheeler. He had worked for much of his life for Greenbelt Water Authority before his retirement. He was a former longtime member of the Hedley Lions Club and was a member of the American Legion. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife; a son, John L. Conatser and wife, Diane, of Memphis; two sisters, Margaret Ruthardt of Ordway, Colo., and Jane Lowe of Pampa; two brothers, A.L. Conatser of Delta, Colo., and Albert Yake of Ordway; three grandchildren, Jason, Bradley and Skyler Conatser, all of Memphis; and a great-granddaughter, Jaycee Conatser of Lawton, Okla. She married Robert Franklin Stewart on March 17, 1936, in Claremore.
