Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church of Panhandle with Glen Walton of North Amarillo Church of Christ and Shawn Davis, minister of Panhandle Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Llano Cemetery by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Whittenberg passed from this life and has gone to heaven. She was born to Vernon and LaVerne Hise on May 16, 1940, in Los Angeles. Vernon Hise was a member of the Navy. She graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1958 and married Don Whittenberg on Aug. 29, 1958. She served as a school secretary for 33 years while Don taught and coached at River Road, Sunray and Panhandle. She was known to her students as "Mrs. Whitt" as she tended to matters from scraped knees to broken hearts. She was a friend to many and a caregiver to all she met. She was "Mom" to four children; "Nanny" to 10 grandchildren; and "Aunt Barbara" to 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father in 1952; an infant daughter in 1952; her mother in 1999; and her older brother, Bobby Hise, a lifetime preacher and youth minister for several area Churches of Christ, on Sept. 5, 2002. Survivors include four children, Donna Heard, Kevin Whittenberg and Kyle Whittenberg, all of Albuquerque, N.M., and Kim Wheeler of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gallegos moved to Amarillo 26 years ago from Las Vegas, N.M. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She married Antonio Gallegos on Aug. 8, 1949. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 8, 1991, in Amarillo; a son, Freddie; a sister, Mary; and a brother, Joe. Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Brown was born in Hereford on June 20, 1931, to Clarence P. and Edith Thomas Brown. He graduated from Amarillo High School and entered the Air Force in 1950. He was stationed in Las Vegas. He began his career, first as a salesman in 1956, acquiring his own used-car business five years later in Amarillo. In 1964, he became co-owner in Brown Russell Pontiac dealership, and he assumed full ownership in 1968 until he retired in 1996. His professional organization work has included the presidency of the Amarillo New Car Dealers Association and a position as area director of the Texas Auto Dealers Association. He also served on the Tax Equalization Board, as a director of the Amarillo Better Business Bureau, and was a member of Khiva Shrine, Paramount Terrace Christian Church and Tascosa Country Club. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Lana; three sons, Brian Brown and wife, Kathy, Randy Brown and wife, Linda, and Kent Brown and wife, Benita, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Jennifer Brown of Amarillo; two stepchildren, April Williams of Amarillo and Russell Williams of McKinney; a brother, Frank Brown of Lubbock; a sister, Lois Glover of Panhandle; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Georgia St. Mrs. Phillips was born in Armstrong County, to James E. and Mabelle Jones, and was raised on the J.A. Ranch. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. She moved to Amarillo and married Workman Phillips in Clovis, N.M., on Jan. 30, 1941. While he was in the service, they traveled and then moved back to Amarillo. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1955. She was a charter member of United Methodist Women, Harmony Sunday school class and carried out the card ministry for more than 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 9, 1987; two sisters; two brothers; and her parents, May and Boy Blackwell. Mr. Taylor was born in Sigourney, Iowa, to Raymond and Beverly Taylor. He lived in Red Oak, Iowa, until his freshman year in school, when he moved with his family to Fritch. He graduated from Fritch High School in 1967, after which he joined the Army. He served in the Vietnam conflict and was awarded the Silver Star. He married Sharon Reeves on Aug. 24, 1970, in Dalhart. He farmed in the Bunkerhill area. He was preceded in death by his mother and his grandparents. She worked many years as a volunteer at the hospital in Shattuck, Okla. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 11, 2002 Zettie McGee DALHART - Zettie McGee, 90, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Warren Meadows Funeral Chapel in Many, La., with Sam J. Methvin of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in Florien, La., by Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart. Mrs. McGee was born Aug. 17, 1912, in Fisher, La., to James H. and Emma E. Herrington McGee. She was raised in Middle Creek, La., and graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1930. She graduated from Shreveport Charity Hospital School of Nursing on Feb. 25, 1939. She was an Army nurse during World War II and then began nursing in New Orleans. She later began a career as public health nurse for the Orleans Parish School District before retiring in June 1973. In 1998, she moved to Dalhart. She was a Mardi-Gras Princess in the 1930s and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed needlepoint and crewel embroidery. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jerry C. McGee and Truman M. McGee; and a sister, Hettie Johnson. Survivors include a brother, John Henry McGee and wife, Shirley, of Natchitoches, La.; a sister-in-law, Maggie McGee of Dalhart; three nieces, Carroline M. Methvin and husband, Sam, of Dalhart, Linda L. Rodine and husband, Wayne, of Salina, Kan., and Anita McGee of Dallas; four nephews, William M. McGee and wife, Mingonne, and James G. Mrs. Wauer was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Wellington. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1951 and married Bill Wauer on Feb. 8, 1953, at Wellington. The couple then made their home in Lubbock in 1953, where she taught children's Sunday school, youth and adult Sunday school, sang in the choir and was involved in many church organizations. She was a loving wife and mother and was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church in Lubbock. She was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Cook; a sister-in-law, Gwen Cook; and her parents, James C. and Laura Cook. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mike Wauer and wife, Susan, of Austin and Kevin Wauer and wife, Laurette, of Bloomfield, N.M.; four daughters, Susan King and husband, Clifton, of Amarillo, Donna Siebman and husband, Royce, of Childress, Patti Rickman and husband, Scott, of Lubbock and Karen Jeffcoat and husband, Randy, of Odessa; her twin sister, Zada Cook of Fayetteville, Ark.; three brothers, Deward Cook and wife, Dean, of Weslaco, Loyd Cook and wife, Beverly, of Fort Worth and Lewis Cook and wife, Peggy, of Libertyville, Ill.; and 15 grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 11, 2002 Canyon Louise Conatser Russell Louise Conatser Russell, 74, of Canyon died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Christian Church with Debra Huffman, pastor, officiating. Friends are invited to the fellowship hall after the service. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors. Mrs. Russell was born near Dalhart on Dec. 18, 1927, to Charles and Susie Roberts Conatser. After living near Dumas for a couple of years, the Conatsers moved to Cuba, N.M., where they homesteaded and built a log cabin. They moved back to Texas so their girls could start school at Pringle. They came to Canyon in 1936. Louise graduated from West Texas High, a part of West Texas State Teachers College, in 1944, along with Ross L. Russell, whom she would later marry. She graduated from WTSTC in the summer of 1948, having already taught one year at Spearman High School. She graduated with a degree in mathematics and education and a permanent teacher's certificate. She taught another year at Spearman High School before marrying Ross L. Russell in 1949 on June 5, 1949. She was a stay-at-home mother to their two sons, but was later employed by WTSTC as circulation librarian. As member of First Christian Church, she was an elder, historian, librarian, teacher and past chairman of the board of directors. She also represented her church as chairman of the United Church Women of Canyon, as chairman of the United Campus Ministry Board, as secretary of the High Plains Area of the Christian Church, as secretary of the Ceta Glen Committee, and as chairman and participating member of Christian Women's Fellowship of the High Plains Area. She was also on the original board which instigated the building of Palo Duro Village Retirement Cooperative. Mrs. Russell had a special love of the outdoors; gardening, working with Cub Scouts and camping with family and Christian groups at Ceta Glen. She especially enjoyed the time she spent learning about Texas wildflowers and keeping the wildflower patch in front of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ron Russell and wife, Geri, of Canyon, and Steve Russell and wife, Karen, of Riverside, Calif.; five grandsons, Kyle Russell and Tyson Russell, both of Austin, Matt Russell of Canyon, Charlie Russell of U.S. Navy, Groton, Conn., and Andy Russell of Riverside; a granddaughter, Becca Russell of Riverside; a sister, Catherine Luster of Wildorado; two brothers, Jack Conatser and wife, Sistie, of Dallas, and Charles W. Conatser and wife, Jo, of Lubbock; an uncle, Joe Roberts and wife, Flo, of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
