Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Christian Lighthouse Church with Jackie Findley, pastor, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Parman was born in Canyon. She lived in Amarillo prior to moving to Hereford. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian Lighthouse Church. She married Luke Parman in 1999 at Amarillo. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Heather Davis and husband, Garrett, Stacey Weber and husband, Michael, and Rachel Kearns, all of Hereford; her parents, Carl and Venita Hoffman of Amarillo; two sisters, Cindy Kneeland of Palm Coast, Fla., and Paula Hoffman of Amarillo; two brothers, Gary Ray and Mike Hoffman, both of Amarillo; and five grandchildren. He retired from farming in 1984 and later worked as a welder, trucker and business owner. Mrs. Hester was born Sept. 18, 1927, in Roff, Okla. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. "Buster" Carter, 65, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors, Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Thacker Haynes, pastor of the United Methodist Church of McLean, officiating. Mr. Carter was born May 17, 1937, in Pampa. He married Helen Locke on Feb. 17, 1959, in Miami. He was a lifelong resident of Roberts County. He was a rancher with banking and oil interests. He was a member of the 1955 Pampa Harvester basketball team when they won the State Championship. He was an entrepreneur and a supporter of Texas Tech University athletics and scholarships. He was an avid golfer. He supported many Pampa organizations and was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. Locke Carter and wife, Dr. Rebecca Rickly, of Lubbock; a daughter, Suzy Rhoades and husband, Jerry, of Pampa; a brother, Patrick Casey and wife, Patty Carter, of Sun Valley, Idaho; a sister, Phebe Ann Hethcock and husband, the Rev. William Hethcock, of Sewanee, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Lindsay and Tyler Rhoades, both of Pampa, and Landon and Ellis Carter, both of Lubbock. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 15, 2002 Mary Kathryn Hennessy Johnson CLARENDON - Mary Kathryn Hennessy Johnson, 93, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002. Private graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Mount Olivet Cemetery of Denver. Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mrs. Johnson passed away in Clarendon Medical Center Nursing Home in the loving arms of her daughter, Annie, and surrounded by the loving staff of the home. She was affectionately known as Marzie and was born in Joplin, Mo. Although she refused to confirm the year of her birth, it is believed she was born June 16, 1909. She married Napier E. Johnson in Kansas City, Mo., and the couple moved to Denver in the 1940s. Mr. Johnson preceded her in death in 1974. Mrs. Johnson moved to Amarillo in 1988 and to Clarendon in 1995. In Clarendon, for several years, she lived with special caregivers, Mike and Suzie Rhinehart, their sons and loving daughter, Sage. Marzie's twinkling blue eyes, good humor and mischief will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Lynch (Jack) Roach IV, in 2001. Survivors include a daughter, Annie Johnson Roach of Clarendon; a son-in-law, Thomas Lynch Roach III of Clarendon; a son, Jerome Baxter Johnson of Costa Rica; five grandchildren, McCullough Johnson Roach of Clarendon, Brady Marie Johnson of Arizona, Lorraine Dorrance of Denver, Tanya Goggins of Las Vegas and Kelly Johnson; a stepgranddaughter, Katharine Ashley Roach of Amarillo; and six great-grandchildren. She spent most of her life in Lamesa and retired as a cafeteria manager for Lamesa Independent School District where seeing the children's smiling faces brought great joy to her life. Her ability to see the best in everyone left a great impression on those around her. She had an unending love for her family and a zest for life that will be greatly missed. She delivered Meals-on-Wheels and had a great compassion for those in need. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Hill of Amarillo; two grandsons, Jeremy and Bobby Hill, both of Amarillo; and many close friends who succeeded in making her life happy and meaningful. She moved to Amarillo in 1992 and was the owner of a landscaping business. Georgia St. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Lauch was born April 17, 1911, in Galesburg, Ill. He went to St. Mary's Academy and Corpus Christi Schools in Galesburg. He attended St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa, and worked at Galesburg Mable Iron in Galesburg. He went to work at Caterpillar Tractor in Peoria in engineering and worked for Cumming Engine Co. in Columbus, Ind. He worked for National Supply Engine Co. in Springfield, Ohio, and worked for research Engine Co. in La Porte, Ind. He worked at Buda Engine Co. in Harvey, Ill. Then he left engineering to go into sales. He then moved to Amarillo and represented R.H.G. Engine Co. selling their diesel tractor. In 1958 he worked for the Ford Motor Co., tractor division, and retired from Ford in 1976. He married Gladyce "Barney" Collopy in Galesburg in 1935. She passed away in 1979. Then he married Connie Thomas in November of 1989. He was preceded in death by Gladyce "Barney" Lauch in 1979; and a son, James Lauch. Survivors include his wife, Connie; a son, Mike Lauch of Zuni, N.M.; and a sister, Lilian Watters of Peoria, Ill. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 15, 2002 Oklahoma Ralph Vandiver Funderburk WHITESBORO, Okla. - Ralph Vandiver "R.V." Funderburk, 76, formerly of Amarillo died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002. No memorial services will be held. His body was donated to medical science. Mr. Funderburk was born June 28, 1926, in Childress, where he attended area schools. The former Eunice Whiteside, also of Childress, became his bride on July 4, 1944. R.V. was a veteran of the Navy and had served with the Amarillo Police Department for 18 years, retiring as captain in the 1970s. He had been owner of Luke's Surplus since 1972. He participated in auto racing for 25 years and fishing was his favorite pastime. He was one of the top sprint race car drivers at Amarillo Speed Bowl and area race tracks in the 1960s. He was a charter member and one of the founders of the Amarillo Police Officers Association and its first president. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Thelma Funderburk. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Mary Linley of Menard; a son, Roy Funderburk and wife, Debbie, of Amarillo; a daughter, Carolyn Wiley of DeSoto; four grandchildren, Jason Funderburk of Lubbock, Carie Wiley of Haslet, Jennie Funderburk of Amarillo and Cory Wiley of DeSoto; a great-granddaughter, Makayla Funderburk of Amarillo; and countless friends, racing fans and fishing buddies. Mr. Bridwell was born Feb. 19, 1923, in Beaver to Hugh Vivian and Crystal Pearl (Perkins) Bridwell. He retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. He served in World War II in the 31st Infantry Division in the Leyte and Mindanao Philippine Islands from 1944 to 1946. Survivors include a son, John Scott of Wellington; a daughter, Kathlyn Britton of Edmond; and four grandchildren. Arrangements are by Messinger Indian School Mortuary. Mrs. Ralston was born in Amarillo. She moved to Arizona 30 years ago from Pleasanton, Calif. She was a mystery writer and member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. She was a 1985 graduate of Arizona State University-Magna Cum Laude and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She was also a member of a mystery writers group called Sisters in Crime. Survivors include her husband, Ed; two daughters, Julie Nackard and Jackie Walden; a son, Chuck Ralston; two brothers, Jack B. Lankford and Jim Pat Lankford; and four grandchildren.
