Mr. Shuffield was born Aug. 20, 1943, in San Jose, Calif. He was a pumper for Losure Petroleum. Dr. Ingli was born to Ferdinand and Ollie Wagner Ingli on Nov. 15, 1945, in Ellsworth, Wis. He was a physician and practiced in several places including Las Vegas, Nev., and Poplar Bluff, Mo., before coming to Wheeler in 2000. He served in the Army as a chemist. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wheeler. He graduated from Plainview High School in 2002. He played for the Bulldog football team for two years. He was on the Hale County Jr. Literacy Council and was an active member of Acapella Choir and Chamber Singers. He was an active member of First Baptist Church Youth Group. He was a recipient of the 2002 Bob Hilburn Scholarship. He attended Texas Tech University as a freshman majoring in business administration. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Memorial services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Veteran's Chapel at the Veterans Administration Hospital with the Rev. Terry Sparks and the Rev. Kathryn Boren officiating. Mrs. Welch was born to Ada May "Racknor" Hanson and Joseph Hanson on Oct. 11, 1906, in Topeka. She graduated from Vedette Grade School in Topeka and graduated from Washburn College High School in 1924. She attended Washburn College/University in Topeka and also attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University. During the Depression, she worked as a switchboard operator at the Kansas State Capitol building. She was the first woman employed by Kansas Highway Department. She moved to Amarillo in 1924 and was employed with H.D. Porter/George Porter Cattle Co. until February 1936. Then she became a secretary for Amarillo Oil Co. and Pioneer Natural Gas Co., retiring in 1971 at the age of 65 years. She returned to work for Jack Seale Realtor for 21 years from 1971 to 1992 as a secretary. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church from 1952 to 1994. She served as treasurer at the Association of Desk and Derrick in 1956 and served in other capacities through the years. She was named Woman of the Year in Amarillo in 1993 and was the editor of the Oilpoke for 19 years. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Welch Bohn of Cortez, Colo.; two brothers, Howard Hanson of Topeka and Alfred Hanson of Lancaster, Calif.; two sisters, Mildred Smith of Rochester, N.Y., and Ruth Forbes of Topeka; four double cousins; four nieces; and two nephews. Mr. Claybrook was born Sept. 2, 1930, in Beaver County. He was working as a fabrication inspector for the city of Detroit before he retired. Amarillo Globe-News, Sept. 24, 2002 Joe Gordon Humphrey CHICKASHA, Okla. - Joe Gordon Humphrey, 68, formerly of Chickasha, of Amarillo, Texas, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Sharon Baptist Church of Chickasha. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Sevier Funeral Home. Mr. Humphrey was born Nov. 2, 1933, east of Chickasha to Holland G. and Mildred Taylor Humphrey. He farmed and lived east of Chickasha all of his life, until moving to Amarillo on May 1, 2002. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Ann Lair, on May 8, 1954, in Chickasha. They were married 48 years. He attended Friend School, graduating in the class of 1951. He served two years in the Army, then returned to farming, including farming the land upon which he was born. He served on the Friend School Board for seven years, served as president of Grady County Alfalfa Grower's Association and was a founding member of University of Oklahoma Beef Club. He was an avid fan of OU sports, having been a long-time season ticket holder of the football program. He also had held season tickets for the men's and women's basketball programs. He was his happiest attending any of the OU sporting events. He also attended the Oklahoma state high school basketball tournaments all of his life. He was a life-long member of Sharon Baptist Church (which was a church founded by his paternal grandmother) where, over the past 50 years, he had served as trustee, Sunday school director, training union director and a member of the choir. He had taught Sunday school classes for many years for the young married group and most recently, for the adult men's class. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo. He was working for Craig Methodist Retirement Center in Amarillo. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He had a kind and generous heart. He was preceded in death by his father in 1968; his mother in 1971; and two brothers, Kenneth Humphrey in 1972 and Marshall Humphrey in 1974. Survivors include his wife of Amarillo; a daughter, Jacqueline Humphrey and husband, Rob Chafin, and their 10-year-old daughter, Jacqueline Humphrey Chafin, all of Amarillo; two sons, Joe Humphrey Jr. and wife, Susan, and three-year-old son, Cale Gannon, of Frisco, and Holland Humphrey and wife, Rebecca, and their six-year-old son, Andrew Peterson, all of Mobile, Ala.; four sisters, Florence Dunn, Melba Kell, Sarah Kell and Carolyn Albright, all of whom live east of Chickasha; an uncle, Jack Taylor of Coarse Gold, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
