Mr. Rutkowski was born Sept. 27, 1924, in Helena and had been a resident of Panhandle for more than 50 years. He was a retired maintenance technician for the Texas Highway Department. He was on the U.S.S. California during the invasion of Pearl Harbor and served in the Navy from 1941 to 1946. He married Bernice Kuehler in 1948 at Panhandle. Survivors include his wife, Bernice; a son, Sam J. Mr. Ballard was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Haskell, the son of Labry and Irine Ballard. He married Jean Spande on Nov. 11, 1946, in Hereford. He was a lifelong farmer and crop adjuster. He was a veteran, having served in the Army during World War II. He was active in Hereford Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, senior citizens and Whiteface Booster Club. She was a resident of Medical Center Nursing Home for the past 20 years, where she was involved in many of the activities of the home and enjoyed the staff and other residents, whom she considered her extended family. Arrangements are by Porter Loring Mortuary. Mrs. Coberly was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Vinson, Okla., to William and Cora Duckworth. She was reared in rural Oklahoma during the Depression and worked at Pantex Ordnance Plant during World War II. After the war, she worked in banking and retail business. It was after the birth of her second daughter that she was able to devote her time to doing what she loved best, taking care of her family. She enjoyed spending time with them and she also liked sewing and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, Verlen Coberly; and her parents.
