Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lutheran Cemetery in Alva, Okla. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo, 2820 Virginia Circle, and Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mrs. Schaefer was born July 3, 1913, in Warner, Okla., to James Robert and Marjorie Aveline Sinclair. She was a retired cosmetologist. She moved to Spearman from Amarillo in 1983 to be closer to her son and family after retiring. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Amarillo and attended Faith Lutheran Church of Spearman. She married Walter F. Schaefer on Aug. 6, 1932. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a great-grandson, Greg Elliott; two brothers, Roy Gordon Sinclair and Robert Aubrey Sinclair; and a sister, Dola Theda Treadwell. Survivors include a son, Ron and wife, Colleen; a grandson, Butch Schaefer and wife, Bonnie, of Pampa; two granddaughters, Linda Butt of Amarillo and Melanie Elliott and husband, Charles, of Spearman; seven great-granddaughters; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Sinclair of Tulsa, Okla.; a nephew, Donald Cooksey of Albuquerque, N.M.; two nieces, Carolyn Algire of Oakhurst, Calif., and June Montgomery of Vista, Calif.; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Schaefer Kamas of Alva and Margaret Schaefer Wagner of Fortuna, Calif. "Slim" Oxley, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002. Entombment services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Lonny Robbins, pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Oxley had been a resident of Pampa since 1954. He was a veteran of the Army. Survivors include his wife, Lillian; a son, John Oxley of Pampa; two stepsons, Rusty Behne and Arthur Dean Behne, both of Guymon, Okla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 2, 2002 Omar Clayton Cotter SPEARMAN - Omar Clayton Cotter, 88, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hansford Cemetery with Bob Pearson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Cotter attended schools in Hansford County and graduated from the old Hansford School. He obtained a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin and later attended Harvard University and M.I.T. He served our country in the Navy during World War II, under Admiral Halsey. While serving his country his family fell on hard times and lost all of their land. Upon his return, he worked hard to regain part of the family estate including the old homestead. He was a dedicated farmer and rancher in Hansford County. He was married to his wife for 29 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Caroline "Carrie" Wells Cotter; two brothers, John Cotter and Austin "Tex" Cotter. Survivors include his wife, Cleo; three grandsons, Joshua Clayton Gilley, Nathan Gilley and Jason Gilley, all of Spearman; a sister-in-law, Deannie Gilley of Spearman; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Alderson was born March 28, 1908, in Aviston, Ill., to John Ben Theisman and Theresa Striker Theisman. She received her education in Perico. She was a homemaker and an avid gardener. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; four brothers; and her husband, Clyde in 1975. Survivors include a son, Dwain Alderson and wife, Marie, of Lakewood, Colo.; a brother, Andy Theisman of Denver; four grandchildren, Karen Martin of Canyon, Russ Alderson of Golden, Colo., Mandy King of Arvada, Colo., and Andrea Romano of Highland Ranch, Colo.; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hafer was born July 27, 1931, in Perkins. She was a member of Church of God and was secretary for the Seward Social Club. He moved to Amarillo in 1953. He was a sales representative for American Tobacco Co. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church, Good Sam's Chaparral Club and a former member of High Plains Kiwanis Club. He was a real family man and loved his family dearly. Survivors include his wife, Ina; a daughter, Jan Pearcy and husband, Lynn, of Amarillo; a son, Rick Keeton of Amarillo; four sisters, Florence Story of Pampa, Myrtle Caudell of Lawton, Okla., Gracie Boyett of Borger and Lena Payne of Slidell, La.; a brother, S.W. She owned and managed several restaurants in the Texas Panhandle before retiring in 1988. She married Andy Giles on Dec. 24, 1948, in Clovis, N.M. She was a loving mother and grandma. She will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 20, 2002. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Giles of Amarillo; a son, Mike Giles of Claude; a sister, Aylene Taylor of Savoy; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She received her bachelor's degree from Central State University in Edmond, Okla., and her master's degree from Oklahoma A&M University in Stillwater. She taught for one year at Blanchard, Okla., before moving to Amarillo where she taught one year at Horace Mann before moving to Stephen F. Austin Junior High School where she spent the rest of her teaching career. She was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Henry. He was a graduate of Sam Houston State University. He was a major in the Air Corps in World War II and served as a bombardier instructor. He married Helen Marie Denney on Nov. 28, 1946, in Wichita Falls. He worked as a district catalog manager for Montgomery Ward in the Panhandle area from 1960 to 1973. He retired after 25 years of service. After retirement, he was involved in real estate in Corsicana. He returned to Amarillo in 2002. He was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Marie McCormick and husband, Terry, of Amarillo and Linda Ferguson of Lubbock; three sons, Matthew Walker and wife, Laurie, of Ephrata, Wash., Wade Walker and wife, Laurie, of Amarillo and Steve Baker and wife, Anna, of Barrington, Ill; six grandsons; six granddaughters; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. "Cliff" Hampton ALAMOGORDO, N.M. - Clifford R. "Cliff" Hampton, 95, formerly of Amarillo, Texas, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo with the Rev. Chester O'Brien officiating. Arrangements are by Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home. Mr. Hampton was born Sept. 19, 1907, in Paragould, Ark. He moved to Alamogordo three years ago from Amarillo, where he owned and operated Cliff's Barbeque Restaurant. While in Amarillo he was a member of First Baptist Church, was a volunteer in the food closet at Buchanan Street Baptist Church, and a member of Kiwanis. In 1974, he was named Citizen of the Year in Amarillo. He and his wife were married 66 years. Survivors include his wife, LaVada; two daughters, Nancy Carson of Alamogordo and Carolyn Hollis and husband, Paul, of Hondo, Texas; three grandchildren, Emily Neill and husband, Jeff, of Albuquerque, Eric Carson of Las Cruces and Mike Hollis and wife, Amanda, of San Antonio, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Holly Hollis of San Antonio; a brother, Paul Hampton of San Antonio; a sister, Catherine Piersall of Paragould; and numerous nieces and nephews.
