"Larry" Jarrett, 84, of Amarillo died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Park Place Towers with Dr. Strauss Atkinson, retired minister, officiating. His musical skills were apparent from early childhood and his life was spent as a musician and educator. He taught in the San Diego schools for 35 years. He was teaching in San Jon, N.M., in 1937, when he met Rilla, and they were married in June 1939. He was preceded in death by his wife in January. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia, Iowa, by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Coleman was born and raised in Harrison County, Iowa. She received her teaching degree from Cedar Falls Teachers College and taught in several schools in Iowa, Texas and California. She married John. A. Coleman in 1937. She moved to Amarillo in 1996 from Abilene to live with her niece, Elaine Weihe and her husband, Alven. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; a brother, Clay Swan; a nephew, William H. Lee; and an aunt, Hattie Swan. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Debolt Cemetery in Arnett, Okla., by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Folks was born in Higgins to Beulah "Bill" and Kenneth Holt. She was a graduate of Arnett High School in Arnett. She married Tom Folks in 1957 at Arnett. Mrs. Folks had been a resident of Amarillo for 33 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She served as patient services coordinator at High Plains Baptist Hospital before her retirement in the 1980s. Mrs. Folks was an active member of Optimist Club. She was a mentor for many years at Horace Mann Junior High School as well as this year at Mesa Verde Elementary School. She was active in Amarillo Women's Bowling Association for nearly 30 years and was an active community volunteer. She bought and collected more than 200 stuffed animals for the last three years that she donated to The Bridge and Evelyn Rivers Christmas Project. Survivors include her husband; a son, Tommy I. Folks Jr. of Amarillo; three daughters, Burma Bacher and husband, Cecil, of Fort Worth, Mary Folks and husband, Mike Williams, of San Angelo and Carol Underwood-Kruse and husband, Alan, of Arlington; three granddaughters; four grandsons; and a host of wonderful friends. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Kollaer was born in Amarillo to John W. and Emelia K. Kollaer, an early pioneer family. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1934 and married his high school sweetheart Sudie Clark on July 28, 1940. After the death of his father, Mr. Kollaer and his brother, Walter, continued the operation of Kollaer Bakery. It was the first wholesale bakery in Amarillo starting in 1898. He retired in 1966 from the bakery. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Kollaer and Walter Kollaer; and two sisters, Irene K. Ware and Mary K. Stewart. Survivors include his wife; two sisters, June K. Cantrell of Plano and Emelia K. Bradshaw of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews. He was a lector and member of St. Mary's Life Teen and he was an audiovisual operator for Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He was loved and adored by all of his family and friends. He was a graduate of Plainview High School and West Texas State University. He lived 30 years in the Amarillo area where he was engaged in real estate, insurance and trucking. He was also a member of Paramount Baptist Church for more than 30 years, where he had taught preschool. He married Beverly Rogers of Quitaque in 1971. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Joan Howard in 1984; and his father, Dr. Fred D. Howard. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Bell Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Logan officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Hollis was born Aug. 9, 1927, in Sasakwa, Okla. He married Mae Hollis on Dec. 31, 1951, in Clovis, N.M. Charles was an Amarillo fireman from 1948 to 1954. He resigned to become a partner in Love and Son Nursery. In 1956, he joined the Amarillo Police Department, where he rose to the rank of assistant chief. A position he held for 18 years, prior to his retirement in 1990. He was a graduate of the FBI National Academy and Wayland Baptist College, where he received a bachelor's degree in law enforcement. Charles was one of the original instructors and developers of Amarillo College Police Science curriculum. He was past president of Amarillo Federal Credit Union and Toastmasters Club 211. He also was a past member of many civic organizations, including Amarillo West Rotary Club, American Red Cross and the original 911 Board. Charles was a member of Bell Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Barbara Bowden in November 2000. Survivors include his wife; a son, Neal Hollis of Baltimore; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Hollis of Baltimore; a grandson, Joshua Aaron Hollis of Baltimore; a sister, Willa Dean McAnally of Cabot, Ark.; two stepsisters, Pat White and Lola Mae Lester, both of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
