Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church in Stratford with the Rev. Brent Farney, pastor, and The Cartel, friends of Phillip Bain, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Bain was born March 18, 1932, in Long Beach, Calif. He was a Stratford resident most of his life. He married Marty McMahen on Aug. 10, 1951, in Clayton, N.M. He was a member of Stratford First Baptist Church. He was in the gas, oil and tire business for 47 years. He purchased his first business in 1954. In 1969, he became owner and operator of Exxon Service Station in Stratford. In 1976, he built Bain Tire Co. and was owner and operator until August 2002. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristi Leigh Bain in 1965; and a brother, Byron Bain. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Lynda B. Stein of Lubbock, Karen Bain Kempf of Norman, Okla., and Areace Jones of Shallowater; four granddaughters, Lindsay Stein and Kelsey Stein, both of Stratford, and Sydney Jones and Lauren Jones, both of Shallowater. Georgia St. Mrs. Folks was born in Higgins to Beulah "Bill" and Kenneth Holt. She was a graduate of Arnett High School in Arnett. She married Tom Folks in 1957 at Arnett. Mrs. Folks had been a resident of Amarillo for 33 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. She served as patient services coordinator at High Plains Baptist Hospital before her retirement in the 1980s. Mrs. Folks was an active member of Optimist Club. She was a mentor for many years at Horace Mann Junior High School as well as this year at Mesa Verde Elementary School. She was active in Amarillo Women's Bowling Association for nearly 30 years and was an active community volunteer. She bought and collected more than 200 stuffed animals for the last three years that she donated to "The Bridge" and Evelyn Rivers Christmas Project. Survivors include her husband; a son, Tommy I. Folks Jr. of Amarillo; three daughters, Burma Bacher and husband, Cecil, of Fort Worth, Mary Folks and husband, Mike Williams, of San Angelo and Carol Underwood-Kruse and husband, Alan, of Arlington; three granddaughters; and four grandsons; and a host of wonderful friends. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 24, 2002 Jeanne Elizabeth Ray Corn Jeanne Elizabeth Ray Corn, 80, formerly of Amarillo, of Austin died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Amarillo with the Rev. Patrick James Willson of Williamsburg, Va., officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Corn was born in Shamrock on Nov. 6, 1921. A fourth generation Texan, she was raised in Amarillo by her parents, Carl and Lydie Ray and with her sister, Jane. After graduation from Amarillo High School in 1939, she attended Amarillo Junior College and West Texas State University while working at the Amarillo Helium Plant and winning an E for excellence from the War Department. On Feb. 16, 1945, she married her lifelong friend and high school sweetheart, John Corn. Together they moved to Boulder, Colo., and completed degrees at the University of Colorado, Jeanne's in chemistry. John began his career in chemical engineering in Orange in 1946 and Jeanne raised their two children, Susie and Harvey. After a tour of duty in West Virginia, the family returned to Orange in 1957. In 1961, Jeanne began her real career as a teacher. In 20 years of teaching high school chemistry, she changed the lives of thousands of young people. She made them think. She made them take responsibility for their actions. She helped them become adults. Jeanne and John retired to Fredericksburg in 1983 and enjoyed the beautiful environment and friendly community until John's death in February 1985. Jeanne then suffered the loss of her daughter, Susie, in February 1997. Fredericksburg continued to be a loving and supportive community for Jeanne until she moved to Austin in November 1998 to be near her son and his family. In Austin, she acquired an entirely new family in the residents and staff of Summit Retirement Center. While she loved and appreciated art, music, literature and nature, it was the stimulation of young minds and the creation of a generation of passionate thinkers and students that made her who she was. She really was a part of Tom Brokaw's "Greatest Generation." It may be that what made them great was the belief that future generations could be greater still and instilling in the young the intellect, faith and hope to believe it as well. She was preceded in death by her husband; and daughter. Survivors include a son, Harvey R. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church in Amarillo. She married Robert Sweny on Aug. 28, 1972, in Lake Tahoe, Nev. She was an Amarillo resident for the past five years. Survivors include her husband; two sisters, Jean Faucher and Teresa Lagrange, both of Coquitlam, British Columbia; a brother, Charles Hamelin of Coquitlam; a daughter, Laurie Ruby of Irvine, Calif.; a son, Charles Auger of Moses Lake, Wash.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Manning was born in Rosedale, Kan., on Feb. 22, 1923, to Daisy and Frank Manning. He served three years during World War II in New Guinea and Philippines with the 871st Airborne Engineers. He worked for 20 years as a Linotype operator in various parts of the country. Mr. Manning was a partner for 25 years in a beauty supply company in Amarillo, retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Hyacinth's Parish. He was a volunteer for the veteran's hospital for nine years. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Faye Straughn, Irma Dean Roney-Hamilton, Margaret DeWitt and Ruby Ann Manning; and two brothers, Thomas Manning and Kenneth Manning. Survivors include a brother, Frank Manning of Baltimore; a niece and close friend, Rosemary Brock of Farmington, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Aldine Manning of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to St. Hyacinth's Building Fund. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 24, 2002 Amarillo Terry Clive Thomas Terry Clive Thomas, 88, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Polk Street United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. Jim Garrett, senior pastor, officiating. Mr. Thomas was born in Wagner, Okla. He graduated from Oilton High School in Oilton, Okla., in 1931 and was a member of National Honor Society. He attended Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater, Okla., from 1931 to 1932, where he played saxophone in the college band and also a local dance band. He then attended University of Oklahoma from 1935 to 1940 where he was a student half-time and worked full-time. Mr. Thomas moved to Amarillo in 1950 to work for Comco Insurance Co. and retired as vice-president of the company, which was a subsidiary of Southwestern Investment Co. He had been a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church since 1950 and served on the board of stewards, a member of sanctuary choir and 50-50 Sunday school class, which he also served as president. He also had been a member of Downtown Kiwanis Club since 1950 and had served as chairman of Boys and Girls Work Committee, past president, last lieutenant governor of division VI of the Oklahoma-Texas District and had 26 years perfect attendance. Mr. Thomas joined the Meals on Wheels Program and served on the board of directors, board of trustees and as a driver delivering Meals on Wheels. He served as a member and chairman of Greater Amarillo Chapter of American Red Cross and had also served on the Council for the National American Red Cross. Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Keffer and husband, Eddie, of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; two grandchildren, Kyle E. Keefer and Kelly E. McKibbon, both of southern California; three great-grandchildren, Sean J. McKibbon, Alison E. McKibbon and Coleman J. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 24, 2002 Canyon Willie "Bibby" Morgan Willie "Bibby" Morgan, 99, of Canyon died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, in Amarillo. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel with Dr. Strauss Atkinson officiating. Burial was Wednesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Morgan was born Jan. 5, 1903, in Delta County, to William Burns and Alma Davis Bibby. She grew up in Hopkins and Hunt counties in East Texas and attended East Texas Normal College in Commerce, where she met the man she would marry, Frank Morgan. It was he who started calling her by her family name, and she has been "Bibby" to friends and family since that time. Their lives were devoted to education. Although illness ended Bibby's teaching career after only two years, Frank was a teacher-coach, principal then superintendent. They lived at Mount Vernon, Wichita Falls, Honey Grove, Commerce and Irving. In 1947 they moved to Canyon when Frank became registrar at West Texas State Teachers College. Their lives revolved around the college and their church, where he was a deacon and she was a Sunday school teacher. Their greatest disappointment was in not having children. However, they helped raise several younger family members and encouraged them to get good educations. Bibby was an ideal homemaker and said the greatest pleasure of her life was making a home for Frank for 54 years. For all these reasons, they are still thought of together. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Canyon and was a longtime Sunday school teacher and participant in Women's Missionary Union. When she was no longer able to go out, her church was still her greatest interest. She faithfully prepared her Sunday school lesson, read her Bible and contributed. Up to her death, Mrs. Morgan was the oldest member of Women's Book Club which began collecting books about 1943 forming the basis of what later became the Canyon City Library. She was a reader and enjoyed discussing what she had recently read. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, Canyon City Chapter No. 105. She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Ardis Stamper; and nine stepbrothers; and stepsisters. Survivors include a brother, Dr. J. Edwin Low and wife, Anita, of Canyon; a sister, Frieda Miller of Kilgore; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a production foreman for Texas Coffin Co. and had currently been employed by Wal-Mart. He was a Mason and a member of First Assembly of God Church. Williams, 75, of Amarillo died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Church of Christ in Cleveland, N.M., with David Williams officiating. He was self-employed in the timber business. Amarillo Globe-News, Oct. 24, 2002 Elsewhere William A. McPherson HOUSTON - William A. McPherson, 68, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Geo H. Lewis and Sons Funeral Home. A reception will follow. Mr. McPherson was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Canadian. A football team captain and Eagle Scout, he graduated from Pampa High School in the Texas Panhandle. After attending Texas Tech University, he began a lifelong career in the oilfield equipment industry. Starting with CAMCO in the 1950s, Bill spent most of his career with the McEvoy Co. of Houston. He was extremely well known for his technical expertise as well as his accomplishments in sales and marketing. Bill traveled the world in his career with McEvoy including living in London for three years where he was director of sales for the Western Hemisphere. He retired in the late 1980s as vice-president of sales and marketing. Bill was an active member of Society of Petroleum Engineers and NOMADS. Bill will always be remembered for his honesty, hard work ethic, generosity, great sense of humor, zest for life, "Old Fashion" lifestyle and his ability to be such a friend to so many. He will remain in our hearts as the life of the party, a great storyteller and host, always ready with a winning smile and firm handshake. Special thanks to Bill's close friend, Mrs. Betty Everett of Weatherford, who remained with Bill throughout his illness.
