Vigil services will be at 5:30 p.m. today in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Lupe Mayoragh as celebrant. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Monsignor Joseph Tash of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fairview Cemetery of Wellington with Lupe Mayoragh as celebrant. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Helbert was born Dec. 8, 1909, in Sayre, Okla., to Pat and Theresa Shields. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1928 and from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in 1931 as a registered nurse. She married Luie L. Helbert in Childress in 1954. She was employed at St. Anthony's Hospital, Northwest Texas Hospital and the Veterans Hospital in Amarillo. In Childress she worked at Childress General Hospital where she taught L.V.N.s coursework to complete their certification. She was also employed by St. Joseph's Hospital in Wellington, Abraham Nursing Home in Canadian, Highland General Hospital in Pampa and Casa Del Nursing Home in Pampa. She was a member of the Texas Nursing Association, Women of the Moose, St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Pampa and an honorary member of St. Anthony's Alumni Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luie Helbert in 1987; two brothers, Joe Shields and Earl Shields, both of Amarillo; and two sisters, Cecelia Craven of Amarillo and Margaret Bearden of Wellington. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Willis was born June 6, 1905, in Bonham to Michael and Nettie Benson. A few years later the family moved to Wichita Falls where she graduated from Wichita Falls High School and was a member of the first graduating class of Midwestern University. She then attended the University of Texas before returning to Wichita Falls where she briefly taught music in the local school system. She married John Thomas Willis in Wichita Falls in 1926 and they made Amarillo their home in 1940. Throughout her life she continued her musical interests, serving as church pianist for several churches and teaching private piano lessons for many years. She also loved to garden, raising many prize-winning entries and arrangements. She belonged to West Amarillo Garden Club, the Book Review Club and was an avid bridge player. She was a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; an infant son; her parents; and a brother, Frank Benson of Big Spring. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Collins and husband, Dale, and Betty Southern and husband, Leo, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Becky Smithee and husband, John, Mary Ann Melugin and husband, Tony, and Lucy Southern, all of Amarillo, and Jim Southern and wife, Linda, of Boston; and six great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca and John Smithee and Justin Melugin, all of Amarillo, James Southern of New York City and Robert Southern of Boston. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Central Church of Christ in Tulia with Mr. Kent Hayhurst, grandson and minister of Church of Christ in Santa Fe, N.M., officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Tucker was born Aug. 13, 1907, in Petty and moved to Swisher County as a young boy. He attended schools in Happy, Love and Tulia. He moved to Amarillo in 1958 from Plainview. He was a custom combine harvester for 58 years. He married Effie Lydell Campbell in 1930 at Henryetta, Okla. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Lydell Campbell Tucker in 1995; and a son, Kenneth Dale Tucker in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Joann Hayhurst and husband, Wes, of Tulia; a son, Billy Morris Tucker of Amarillo; three brothers, Millard Tucker and Leslie Tucker, both of Amarillo, and John Tucker of Fort Worth; two sisters, Verna Arreola of Amarillo and Nell Tedford of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Brent Ashby, of Paramount Terrace Christian Church, officiating. Mr. Schoen was born to Bernice and Joseph L. Schoen in Oconto, Wis. He attended grade school and graduated from Oconto High School in 1966. He served with the Army from 1966 to 1968. He lived and worked in Green Bay, Wis., from 1969 to 1975 when he moved to Amarillo. He then worked for his brother, Joe, at both A&B Auto and Towing for many years and more recently for Lakeway Auto in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph L. Schoen; a granddaughter, Cierra of Wisconsin; an aunt, Shirley DeBaere of Amarillo; a cousin, Jeff DeBaere of Amarillo; a niece of Amarillo; and two nephews, both of Amarillo. Mr. Cook was born May 5, 1932, in Lovington, N.M., to Preston and Edna Cook. They moved to Amarillo in 1944 and he graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950. He received his bachelor's degree in business administration from West Texas State University. He worked many years in financial services for Southwestern Investment Co. and Southwestern Wholesale Drug Corp. He retired from Paramount Greeting Cards as a regional sales manager. He was National Salesman of the Year for Paramount in 1941. He married Glennda Scott in 1954. They had three children, David, Larry and Pamela. Cancer took his life but he left many friends and family with fond memories of his life and caring nature. He was preceded in death by a son, Larry, in 2000; his parents; and a brother, Don L. Cook. Survivors include his wife; a son, David Cook and wife, Luanne, of Dallas; a daughter, Pamela Cook Sirmon and husband, David, of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Rachel and Dillon Cook, both of Dallas, Paul, Preston and Audrey Sirmon, all of Amarillo, and Dalton-Lee Cook of Corpus Christi. Memorial services will be at noon today in Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home with Andrew "Andy" Gunn officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery of Amarillo. After a long and courageous battle with diabetes and liver failure, beloved spouse, mother and friend, Nita Alexander, left the bounds of this earth to find her place of peace in Heaven on Oct. 25, 2002. She was born in Munich, Germany, on June 17, 1950, and had resided in Austin since 1975. She was certified as both a radiology technician and as an L.V.N. and was a gifted, compassionate nurse for more than 27 years. She had a passion for Irish setters, was active in the AKC, the Irish Setter Club of America and with Charles, championed several dogs. She also loved antiques and gardening. She had a special talent for needlepoint which she shared in the form of beautifully crafted gifts which will be treasured for years by family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy, Jeremy and Aaron Alexander, John W. Vaught and Homer W. Owens. Special thanks to Dr. Craig Lubin, Dr. Mary Eckert, Austin Regional Clinic and Hospice and Austin's Christopher House for their special care.
