Mr. Gordon was an Army engineer during World War II. He was a member and deacon at Central Church of Christ. Mrs. Kelp was born April 3, 1918, in Lexington, Okla. She was a Stratford resident since 1982, moving from Whittier, Calif. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Stratford. She was manager of King's Jewelry Store while living in Whittier. She married William Russell Kelp on Jan. 21, 1936, in Dumas. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 15, 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Serena Roark and husband, Doug, of Monahans; a son, Bill Kelp of Stratford; a sister-in-law, Madrieene Hair of El Paso; three grandsons, Rusty Roark and wife, Toni, of Garwood, Randyl Roark and wife, Eva, of Biebergenumd, Germany, and Ryan Roark and wife, Kelly, of Eagle Lake; five great-grandchildren, Alyssa Roark, Wade Roark and Cason Roark, all of Garwood, Cy Roark of Lookeba, Okla., and Rylie Roark of Eagle Lake; many loved nieces and nephews located throughout the states and so many dear friends and little ones that considered her grandma; and her buddy, Danny dog. Burial will be in Calvery Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo., by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Miss Burnett was born May 15, 1939, in St. Louis, the daughter of Dr. William and Louella Moore. In her younger days, she was a model, having been selected as Miss Hospitality in the 1960 Miss Universe Pageant in Miami Beach, Fla. She traveled in South America and Europe as a goodwill ambassador for the Miss Universe Pageant. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Normandy. Mr. Spinhirne was born Dec. 5, 1911, in Vega. He was owner and operator of Vega Welding Shop for more than 20 years and owner and operator of Spinhirne Texaco for nine years. He served on the Oldham County Round-Up Committee for 40 years and on the Cemetery Committee for more than 30 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Spinhirne in 1974; and a daughter, Geneva Townsend in 1997. Survivors include two sons, Edward Spinhirne of Amarillo and Jerome Spinhirne of Vega; two daughters, Wilma Smith of Vega and Janice Betzen of Hereford; a sister, Rose Hons of Austin; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 5, 2002 Amarillo Juan Aguirre Juan Aguirre, 74, of Amarillo died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002. Memorial services were at 6 p.m. Monday in St. Laurence Cathedral with the Rev. He taught his children how to play the guitar and sing. He was so proud of his wife, whose nickname is Chaly. He was a loving father and grandfather to his family and will be deeply missed. She moved to Amarillo in 1967 from Johnstown, N.Y. She married Johnny Youngblood in 1967 at Amarillo and was a homemaker. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 5, 2002 Ruth Chanslor Waller Ruth Chanslor Waller, 78, of Amarillo died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church Chapel. Private family committal will be by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Waller was born in Ranger on Dec. 22, 1923. She moved to Borger when she was six. She graduated from Borger High School in 1941. She then went to work for Phillips until 1944 when she met F.E. Waller. They were married Feb. 8, 1944. They moved to San Francisco where F.E. was stationed in the Navy. She was employed at the Pacific Command office as a secretary. After the war, Mrs. Waller and her husband moved to Amarillo where they opened their first business in 1950. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1950. She taught Sunday school for years and was active in the church for more than 50 years. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Vicki Fischer and husband, Bill, of Amarillo; two sisters, Katherine Braddock of Amarillo and Sara Gressett of Snyder; a brother, Blake Chanslor of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two grandchildren, Sondra Montgomery and Tiffani Fischer, both of Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Scott Schlotfelt of Paramount Terrace Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery in Claude. Mrs. Bailey was born in Rochelle. She married Joe Bailey on Oct. 11, 1931, in Clovis, N.M. They lived in Claude until 1943, when they moved to Amarillo. Mrs. Bailey worked in the nursery for many years at Washington Avenue Christian Church where she was also a member. She was an exceptionally devoted mother and grandmother to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Turpin of Houston and Debby O'Neal of Amarillo; a son, Dennis Bailey of Amarillo; a brother, John Townsend of Coulee Dam, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 5, 2002 Elsewhere Betty June Stapleton NORTH RICHLAND HILLS - Betty June Stapleton, 68, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002. Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church of Hurst. Burial will be at 11 a.m. in Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery by Lucas Funeral Home of Hurst. Mrs. Stapleton was born in Blue Ridge on April 19, 1934. She grew up in Lockney, where she was active in all phases of academics and athletics in high school. She married Eddie Glen Holcomb and had a son, Eddie Glen Holcomb Jr. The family moved to Canyon where Betty was director of education for First Methodist Church of Canyon. She received her college degree from West Texas State University with a combined major in English and History. Subsequently, Betty taught English at Amarillo High School and established the humanities curriculum at AHS. After moving to Richland Hills, she married Bob Stapleton and continued her teaching career at LD Bell High School. In 1999, Betty contracted acute leukemia, but continued to minister to other cancer patients and friends until her death. Betty's legacy will never die, it continues in the hearts of her students and lives on in her heirs. Survivors include her husband, Bob; a son, Eddie Glen Stapleton Jr.; two brothers, Terry Clark and Kenneth Clark; and two grandchildren, Bradon Holcomb and Travis Holcomb.
