Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Watkins and Don Polling officiating. Private burial will be at a later date by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Cherry was born Dec. 29, 1940, in Clayton, N.M., the son of Dale and Dorothy Bowling Cherry. He was a retired barber and prison guard. He was a Methodist and member of Hereford Masonic Lodge No. 849, where he served as worshipful master in 1971. Survivors include his wife, Dixie; a son, Jim Cherry Jr. and wife, Jena, of Kingsland; a daughter, Kelly Ramirez and husband, Jimmy, of Liberal, Kan.; a sister, Patrica Elliott of Albuquerque, N.M.; a stepson, Randy McCracken and wife, Kim, of Stratford; a stepdaughter, Leann Webster of McLean; six grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a step great-grandson. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 11, 2002 J.A. "Johnny" Chronister PAMPA - J.A. "Johnny" Chronister, 78, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Assembly of God with the Rev. Leland Lewis, pastor, and the Rev. H.L. Stevens, retired Assembly of God minister of Dumas, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Masonic Rites by Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge No. 1381 AF&AM. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Chronister was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Okmulgee, Okla. He married Viola Hayden on Feb. 8, 1947, in Okmulgee. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1973. He was a field superintendent for Phillips Petroleum for 42 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Chronister was a member of First Assembly of God and was past worthy patron of Stinnett Chapter No. 347 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a past master of Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge No. 1381 AF&AM and was a member of El Paso Scottish Rite Consistory, York Rite Bodies of Borger and Khiva Shrine Temple in Amarillo. He was a member of National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Louise Little in 1997 and Ruth Cain in 1986. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Mares Sr. in 1959; a daughter, Velia Mares Salinas in 1992; and a son, Victor Mares in 2001. Mrs. Criner was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Saline County, Ark. She married John Criner on Jan. 7, 1942, in Benton, Ark. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Derwin Comer, minister of music and youth, officiating. Private burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mr. Allred was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Quail to Van B. Allred and Ida Gipson Allred. He graduated from Quail High School in 1940 and attended the University of Kentucky. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Lois Morgan on Jan. 16, 1945, in Spartanburg, S.C. After the service he returned to the Marella Community of Collingsworth County. He was a farmer and rancher. He moved to Wellington in 1955. He had served on the Wellington School Board, the Coop Gin Board and the board of directors of Community Bank. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was an avid pilot who loved to fly. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Donna Allred Waggoner of Dallas; two sons, Al Allred of Dallas and Don Allred of Wellington; a sister, Ada Morgan of Shamrock; a brother, Delton Allred of Van Nuys, Calif.; and eight grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church with the Rev. James Cobb, senior minister, and the Rev. Marvin James, minister of Family Life, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Askew, known to most as Mid Askew, was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Amarillo, to early residents W.A. and Geddes Askew. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1936. After graduating from West Texas State Teacher's College, he served in the Pacific during World War II. He received his juris doctor degree from Southern Methodist University in 1949. He married Phyllis Johnson on Oct. 14, 1950, in Amarillo. He joined his father, brother and brother-in-law, J. Hal Brown, in partnership at Askew and Brown Realtors, a long-standing Amarillo firm, until his retirement in 1971. He was an active member of Amarillo Junior Chamber of Commerce and secretary of the XIT Reunion Committee. Mid served as secretary of Rotary Club of Amarillo for 18 of 51 years as a Rotarian. The State Bar of Texas honored him for 50 years for his valuable and meritorious service. Mid enjoyed bird hunting with his father, brother, nephews, grandson and their buddies. He also loved to share stories of the early days of Amarillo, including his memories of his family connections to Colonel Goodnight, his visits to the XIT Reunion, and his summer childhood visits to Kearns and Marble Falls, his parents' family homestead. He was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two daughters, Suzy Zimmerman of Amarillo and Linda Askew and husband, Scott Mathis, of Denver; a brother, W.A. Mr. Stringfellow was born May 20, 1929, in Horatio, Ark. He retired from the Air Force in 1967 after 20 years of service. He then worked for and retired from Toot'n Totum in 2001 after 35 years of employment.
