He served in the armed forces from 1952 to 1954 and was in the Korean War. He received a good conduct medal and national defense service medal. Mr. Askew, known to most as Mid Askew, was born Nov. 17, 1918, in Amarillo, to early residents W.A. and Geddes Askew. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1936. After graduating from West Texas State Teacher's College, he served in the Pacific during World War II. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University in 1949. He married Phyllis Johnson on Oct. 14, 1950, in Amarillo. He joined his father, brother and brother-in-law, J. Hal Brown, in partnership at Askew and Brown Realtors, a long-standing Amarillo firm, until his retirement in 1971. He was an active member of Amarillo Junior Chamber of Commerce and secretary of the XIT Reunion Committee. Mid served as secretary of Rotary Club of Amarillo for 18 of 51 years as a Rotarian. The State Bar of Texas honored him for 50 years for his valuable and meritorious service. Mid enjoyed hunting with his father, brother, nephews, grandson and their buddies. He also loved to share stories of the early days of Amarillo including his memories of his family connections to Colonel Goodnight, his visits to the XIT Reunion, and his summer childhood visits to Kearns and Marble Falls, his parents' family homestead. He was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two daughters, Suzy Zimmerman of Amarillo and Linda Askew and husband, Scott Mathis, of Denver; a brother, W.A. He had been a Liberal resident for 27 years. He was an ordained minister, having served in the Xenia Baptist Church in Xenia, Bible Baptist Church in Neodesha and had served the Fellowship Baptist Church in Liberal since May 1975. He was an avid antique car collector and old car buff. He was preceded in death by his father. Mr. Wilson married Dora Bailey in December 1935 in Clovis. He was a laborer for Clovis Hog Co. and was a member of Triangle Baptist Church. Mrs. Henson was born Oct. 7, 1914, in Commerce to Benjamin and Stella Cowan Wiggs, and died in Amarillo on Nov. 9, 2002. She had four sisters and one brother, two of whom have preceded her in death. She attended East Texas State University in Commerce where she met Virgil Henson whom she married four years later after teaching in a one-room schoolhouse. She moved to Canyon as a bride in 1937. They were with West Texas A&M University for 37 years. First Baptist Church was a very important part of her life. She served as a Sunday School teacher in every age department including University for 50-plus years. She also directed Training Union, was president of WMU, and was active as a GA leader for many years. She was a member of Sue Hite Federated Club since 1937 and served in every office of that club, served on the Randall County Library Board for many years, was a member of Merry Maids and Matrons 42 Club, the Priscilla Club, and Canyon Retired Teacher Association. She assisted in the Canyon Art Gallery for 37 years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Hanks and husband, Alan, of West Lafayette, Ind., and Marion Marrs and husband, Jimmy, of Canyon; five grandchildren, Craig Hanks of San Antonio, Denise Hawkins of Abilene, Leta Cruse of Arlington, and Michelle Arndt and Christy Manley, both of Canyon; three sisters, Virginia Murschel of Bloomington, Ill., Nita Clark of Commerce, and Frances Grayson of Trinidad; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Bradshaw was born Jan. 29, 1931, to Keller G. and Minnie Lee Burton Bradshaw at Greenville. He graduated from Petersburg High School and attended West Texas State University. After attending WTSU and his tour in the Navy, he lived in New Mexico and Texas. He was involved in farming and sales of farm equipment. He retired in 1998 and moved to Canyon in 1999. He married Marilyn Warren in Olton in 1999. He was preceded in death by three brothers; and a sister.
