He was a teacher in Wellington, Kan. She was the daughter of Joyce Elmore Clark of Amarillo and the late Harold John Clark. She was a 1969 graduate of Amarillo High School and was employed by Spartanburg Department of Social Services in Greer. She volunteered for Amarillo Girl Scouts and once was president of Amarillo Foster Parent Association and was a foster parent. She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, granny and most of all a friend to many. He farmed and ranched in Dalhart from 1976 to 1992. While there he served on the Farm Bureau Board and the school board. In 1992, they moved to Amarillo. He was the owner and operator of Premiere Concrete Staining and Engraving. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. He played football for the Nixon Junior High School Whirlwinds. He was a champion wrestler at Amarillo High School. He graduated from there in 1958. He owned and operated Romero's Mexican Inn for 24 years, where Paul Revere and the Raiders once chose to eat while in Texas. The restaurant closed in 1980 but is still talked about today. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Bell St., with Chester O'Brien and Mark Love officiating. Mrs. Cearley was born March 31, 1912, in Alvord, one of 12 children. She married Allen Cearley on Nov. 16, 1929, in Waurika, Okla. They moved from Slidell to Amarillo in 1942. She worked in the drapery department of Sears until she retired in 1972. She and her husband, Allen, were members of San Jacinto Baptist Church, where they worked in the nursery department. She was dearly loved by her family, and her grandchildren were very special to her and she to them. She and Allen moved from their home to an apartment in the Good Samaritan Retirement Center (Canyons) in 1991. The residents became Mattie's friends and "second family" and she never forgot them. In August 1999, she moved to Winter Garden and lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Imogene and Dub Bryant. She lived there until her death. She was a member of First Baptist of Winter Garden. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years on April 10, 1996; two sisters; and four brothers. Survivors include three children, Douglas and wife, Clara, of Amarillo, Imogene Bryant and husband, Dub, of Winter Garden and Butch and wife, Barbara of Tyler; four sisters, Burtis McKinney of Fort Worth, Euvela Jones of Lewisville, Helen McKinney of Decatur, and Melba Jo Siegmund and husband, Ray, of Fort Stockton; a brother, Jasper Sipes and wife, Dorthy, of Salt Lake City; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Donna Johnston, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church of Canyon, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mrs. Cooper was born Feb. 3, 1909, in Silverton. She moved to Canyon with her family in 1921. She was married to Leo Cooper on July 23, 1932. Marie was recognized as an outstanding hairstylist in both the United States and abroad. She taught and demonstrated in Europe, Central America and Canada. Her appearances as a hair fashion authority had gained her international acclaim. She represented Texas in a Los Angeles pageant. She traveled to Europe, seven countries, Germany; Brussels, Belgium; France; England; Holland; Italy; and Switzerland, and gave many hair design demonstrations. She was state style director of Texas and was president of all affiliates for the Panhandle. She was a member of the Official Hair Fashion Committee. She owned and operated beauty salons in Canyon from 1930 to her retirement in 1967. Her sister, Wilma Smith, joined her and they lived at Palo Duro Village. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Canyon and served as president of the Murray Bible Class in the 1970s. Survivors include many loving nieces and nephews. He married Letha Harwood on Oct. 10, 1952, in Canyon. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a member of Lazbuddie Church of Christ and served as a deacon and an elder. He served on the board of directors of Parmer County Community Hospital, served as a county committeeman for the Agriculture Stabilization Conservation Service and served on the board of directors of Lazbuddie Grain.
