Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mobeetie Cemetery with the Rev. Lewis Ellis, retired Baptist minister of Pampa, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home of Wheeler. Mr. Corcoran was born Jan. 20, 1917, in Mobeetie, to Phillip and Sarah Ray Corcoran. He married Anna Belle Stracener in Mobeetie on Sept. 6, 1936. He was a rancher and lived in Mobeetie all his life. He was a friend of the Baptist church of Mobeetie. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1998; and 11 brothers and sisters. Survivors include a son, Ray Corcoran of Weimar; a daughter, Arica Lancaster of Amarillo; a sister, Evelyn Riley of McLean; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 15, 2002 Jewel Naomi Pool MULESHOE - Jewel Naomi Pool, 91, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Muleshoe with Dr. Stacy Connor officiating. Arrangements are by Ratliff Funeral Home of Seminole. Mrs. Pool was born May 8, 1911, in Tennyson to John William and Pearl Hammock. The family moved to Sudan in 1922. In 1933, Jewel married the handsome young Aggie, Lee Rogers Pool of Littlefield. They moved to Muleshoe in 1945. Jewel and Lee were blessed with five children, Roger, Rosemary, Charles "Buddy," Sylvia and Cynthia. Jewel graduated from Sudan High School and attended Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, where she played college basketball and was on the track team as a sprinter and high-jumper. Jewel graduated from Texas Tech in 1933. Jewel taught school and was the first florist in Muleshoe, having studied floral design in Houston at the Benz Floral Design Academy. Jewel loved her Lord, her family, friends, flowers, travel, bridge and crossword puzzles. She will always be remembered for her loving nature, sweet smile and delightful sense of humor. She knew how to work and how to play, how to hold on and how to let go. After Lee died in 1983, Jewel was asked how she was doing; her response was, "Well, if I ever figure out what's what, I'll be just fine." Later Jewel decided what she needed to do was to "Lead on softly." Jewel never relinquished her leadership role; she simply decided that to lead effectively, for her, it must be softly. We are confident that she now knows "What's What" and that she will continue to "Lead on softly." She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughters, Rosemary and Cynthia; and her brothers, Rex, John Ray and Carl. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a truck driver for Palo Duro Meat Co. and he loved to fish. Mr. Jaramillo married Cleo Griego on Aug. 31, 1952, in Hereford. He was preceded in death by two sons, Tony Jaramillo Jr. and David Jaramillo; and a daughter, Esther Romero. He then married Lorene Barstow. She preceded him in death in 1993. He was a retired security officer for the Helium Plant in Amarillo. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Beene was born July 29, 1913, in Henderson, Tenn., to Allen Robert and Mona Tedford Beene. The family moved to Hollis, Okla., in 1915, then to Allison in the late 1920s. Jack graduated from Allison High in 1932 in a class of six. The family then moved to Amarillo in 1936. Jack served with the 61st Field Artillery Battalion of the 1st Calvary Division of the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war he returned to Amarillo and attended business school. In his life he had been a farmer, soldier, grocery clerk and bookkeeper. Jack married the love of his life, Todd Montgomery, on May 29, 1946, in Canyon. They lived in Amarillo while raising their two children. Jack was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and served as chaplain for the Amarillo lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife in August 1967. She lived most of her life in the Texas Panhandle and in Amarillo the last 10 years. Her family was one of the early pioneer settlers. She worked as a beautician and operated a beauty shop in Perryton for years. Mrs. Hunter loved gardening and family history. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons; two brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Edwards and husband, Cecil, of Bowie, Sue McAnally and husband, Ernie, of Amarillo and Karen Stanley and husband, Rock, of Gun Barrel City; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Nov. 15, 2002 Robert Samuel "Bob" McGaughy Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. David Evans, senior pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, officiating. Military rites will be by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. McGaughy was born Aug. 22, 1913, in Decatur, to Samuel and Lillian Alston McGaughy. He attended high school at Spur. He married Elizabeth Collins on Sept. 23, 1933, in Waurika, Okla. He was a farmer in Wise County and operated a service station and grocery store at Decatur. He managed the Double Cola Co. at Lubbock before being inducted into the Army on March 25, 1944, at the age of 31, one of the oldest men drafted by the Lubbock Draft Board. Mr. McGaughy was a sharpshooter in the 106th Infantry Division, 422nd Regiment. He arrived at World War II's European Theater on Oct. 30, 1944, and was captured on Dec. 16, 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge. As a prisoner of war, he arrived at Stalag 19 at Bad Orb, Stuttgart, Germany, on Christmas Day, 1944, and was imprisoned 105 days before General George Patton's Army liberated the camp on Easter Sunday 1945. Mr. McGaughy earned the Bronze Star, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Victory World War II Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He earned badges as an expert rifleman, expert sharpshooter and combat infantryman. He returned to Lubbock in May 1945 and later that year, moved to Amarillo to work for the 7-up Bottling Co. He earned his plumbing license and worked as journeyman plumber for several companies before becoming a master plumber and founding Bob's Plumbing in 1952. He retired in 1976. Mr. McGaughy was a founding member of Trinity Baptist Church. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans for 55 years and of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ex-Prisoners of War organizations. He was one of the oldest former POWs in the Amarillo area. If you spent an hour in conversation with Bob McGaughy, you knew he was a unique individual. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife; three children, Bob J. McGaughy and wife, Jaton, and Cathy Costin and husband, James, all of Amarillo, and Donny McGaughy of Bridgeport; three grandchildren, Jayra Ray and Sam McGaughy, both of Amarillo, and Andy McGaughy of North Richland Hills; and four great-grandchildren. He married Oleta Faye Hailey in 1933 at Red Springs. He retired in 1974 from Smith and Sons. He was a member of North Amarillo Senior Citizens Center. He was a Methodist. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1996. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Wiley was descended from some of the earliest Panhandle settlers who arrived in Texas around 1872. She was born Sept. 23, 1940, to S.F. Powers Jr. and Laverne Green Powers of Amarillo. She married Herman Wiley on Dec. 28, 1958. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance Group for six years and a bookkeeper for 10 years. She had a lifelong passion for genealogy. Burial will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Parkhill was born May 3, 1917, in Vernon, the sixth child of eight born to W.A. "Bill" and Mary Hester Bailey Phillips. She married E.W. Parkhill on Dec. 14, 1937, in Vernon. They moved to Amarillo in 1942. She retired from Colbert's Harry Holland after many years of employment. She was a member of North Amarillo Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; her parents; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Parkhill in 1944; a grandson, Terry Bynum in 1993; a sister, Sarah McClain; and five brothers, Bob Phillips, George Phillips, Clyde Phillips, Claude Phillips and Lloyd Phillips. Her family moved to the St. Francis Community in the Panhandle in 1912. She was the ninth child of 10 children. She was schooled in St. Francis and attended nurses school in Kansas. She was a lifelong nurse and worked for many years at Neblett Hospital, beginning in 1952. She was also a professional seamstress. She married J.W. "Bill" Hood in 1935 in Amarillo. They farmed in Canyon. She was a longtime member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon. She was the person you called on to rescue you from any crisis, and she always came. She was loved and cherished by everyone who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband; seven brothers and sisters; and her parents. Survivors include a son, M.B. Mrs. Berry was born Jan. 27, 1905, in Pushmataha, Indian Territory, Okla. She graduated from Ralls High School in 1925. She married A.R. "Rock" Tolbert in January 1925. He preceded her in death in March 1937. She later married H.C. "Babe" Berry in August 1948. He preceded her in death in August 1988. She was a lifelong farmer and began farming on her own in 1937 to support her family after the death of her husband. She was a former member of Panhandle Blue Grass and Old Tyme Music Association. She had been a resident of Amarillo for the past 12 years. She was a member of Vandalia Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter; and a great-grandson. Survivors include two sons, Wilbert Tolbert of Lubbock and Gerald "Wayne" Tolbert of Amarillo; a daughter, Eleanor Littlejohn of Lubbock; two sisters, Irene Nall of Amarillo and Cleota Bruno of Carlsbad, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
