They later built a larger building next door where they operated the business until their retirement in 1988. Emory really enjoyed all of the friendships which resulted from the many customers who traded at the store through the years. Emory was a longtime supporter of Aztec and its business district. He served as mayor, a city commissioner and on the board for the Aztec Museum. It was a pleasure for him to be able to discuss the signs promoting the "soreheads" with visitors. They left those conversations with a better understanding of Aztec and the people who happily call it home. He loved the Lord and was always active and involved with his church where he served in various callings from treasurer to deacon. He had a special fondness for gospel music and enjoyed listening at every opportunity. In 1997 he married Marinell and they thoroughly enjoyed their almost five years of time together as husband and wife.
