Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. today in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mass will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the church with the Rev. Patrick Carathers as celebrant. Arrangements by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia. Burial will be in St. Anne's Cemetery of Pittsburgh, Pa., at a later date by Laughlin Funeral Home in Mount Lebanon. Mrs. Lynch was a wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and South Florida community volunteer. She spent time in Texas since 1983 when her only child, a daughter, Kathleen (Kathy) married an Amarillo physician, Pablo R. Diaz-Esquivel. A native of Pittsburgh, she worked for the Pittsburgh and Miami Beach offices of A.G. Edwards & Sons. During World War II she worked for the U.S. government overseas. While posted in Honolulu, she met an Army artillery officer from New York City, Captain Thomas Francis Lynch. They married at Hickman Field on Aug. 18, 1945. For most of her married life, she lived in Miami, Fla., where her husband was a teacher, principal and school superintendent. Known to her students as "Mrs. L" she was a dedicated homemaker, a licensed Realtor and a literacy tutor. Throughout her life, she maintained an avid interest in wellness and nutrition. She was also an active church volunteer. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Miami Shores, Fla. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Marian Center Auxiliary Board. She was also part of the Christian Charismatic Renewal movement in South Florida and an early supporter of the revival of Catholic television ministries. She played a significant role in the care of her mother, Lucy Swanson Thornton, when she lived next door in Miami and in Potomac, Md., at the home of her sister, Idamae and late brother-in-law, Colonel Joseph B. Yost. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, in 1983; and a brother, Crate Timothy Thornton of Pittsburgh, in 1993. She will be laid to rest at St. Anne's with her husband; her parents, Lucy and Timothy Thornton; her brother, Crate Timothy Thornton; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn La Donne Thornton. Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen and husband, Dr. Pablo R. Diaz-Esquivel, of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Elizabeth of Amarillo; a sister, Idamae Thornton Yost of Washington, D.C.; two nieces and two nephews, Mary Evelyn Thornton Hopkins and Robert B. Hopkins, both of Upper St. Clair, Pa., and Joseph T. and Paula Yost of Silver Spring, Md.; a great-nephew, Matthew R. Hopkins of Washington, D.C.; and three great-nieces, Kristin E. Hopkins of Pittsburgh, and Lucy and Mary Yost of Silver Spring. The family suggests memorials be to the High Plains Food Bank in Amarillo or a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 2, 2002 Richard Bradshaw Richard "Randy" Bradshaw, 43, of Amarillo died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Rose Chapel at BSA Hospice with Davlyn Duesterhaus, chaplain, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Bradshaw was born in Amarillo to Melva and Wallace Lee Bradshaw. He had been a lifetime resident. Survivors include two sisters, Molly S. Perry and husband, Paul, of Amarillo and Rhonda Bradshaw of Delano, Calif.; a brother, Wallace Bradshaw Jr. and Rachel Bustos of Amarillo; five nieces, Tarra Evans, Amy Evans, Amanda, Rachel and Randi; and two nephews, Paul Perry Jr. and Nicholas. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 2, 2002 Paul Philley Paul Philley, 83, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with Gene Shelburne, of Anna Street Church of Christ, officiating. Military rights are by DAV Chapter 26. Mr. Philley was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Nimrod. He was a veteran of the Army in World War II from which he was honorably discharged. He married Inez Marie Simpson on July 8, 1939. He settled in Abilene following his discharge from the armed forces. He and his family then moved to Amarillo in 1958 to take a position with Southwestern Public Service. He retired from SPS in 1985. He was a longtime member of Anna Street Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Nancy Richardson of Amarillo and her son, Robert Richardson of Amarillo, and Sharon Cain of Topeka, Kan., and her three children, Brent Schaffer of Dallas, Nicole Conforti of Lawrence, Kan., and Kerry Miller of Decatur, Ark., and her four children, Tiffany, Ashley, Joshua and Adam, all of Decatur. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 2, 2002 Canyon Bell C. "B.C." Dean Bell C. "B.C." Dean, 89, of Canyon, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Canyon with the Rev. Gayle Bowen and the Rev. David Lowrie, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home. Mr. Dean was born Oct. 6, 1913, in Larue to Nathanial and Martha Dunklin Dean. He was a supply sergeant in the Air Corps during World War II. After the war he worked 20 years for the Dallas Morning News in the circulation department. He moved to Canyon in 1959 to work as a salesman for the Robert's Rose Textile Co. for 10 years. He then worked as an engineer for the Texas Highway Department for 10 years. He married Dorothy Oliver on Dec. 25, 1939. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. Survivors include his wife; a son, Wayne Dean of Fort Worth; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 2, 2002 Nora Alene Hudgens SUNRAY - Nora Alene Hudgens, 88, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sunray Baptist Church with the Rev. Philip Hilton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens of Dumas by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mrs. Hudgens was born June 27, 1914, in Stamps, Ark. She had lived in Sunray since 1943 and was a homemaker. She was a member of Sunray Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and worked in the nursery for 40 years. She also wrote poetry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Hugh Hudgens, in 1966; and two brothers, Thomas Otto Landes and Richard Albert Landes. Survivors include two sons, Donald Hugh Hudgens of Richwood and James Byron Hudgens of Lubbock; four daughters, Mary Juanita Griffin of Sunray, Martha Ella Estes of Amarillo, Marlene Gibson of Alvin and Marie Ann Johnson of Hinesville, Ga.; a brother, Burl Warren Landes of Sacramento, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Anthony D. Sisemore, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Floyd County Memorial Park by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home. Mr. Breed was a lifelong resident of Floyd County. He was the director of Lighthouse Electric Corp., trustee of Lakeview School Board and member of First Baptist Church in Floydada. Survivors include his wife, Genelle; a son, Mike Odell Breed of Aransas Pass; a daughter, Shirley Jean Towler of Brentwood, Tenn.; a sister, Dorothy Breed Britton of Slaton; and two grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 2, 2002 Marguerite Evelyn Brock DALHART - Marguerite Evelyn Brock, 87, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church with Barry Walker, minister of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery of Dalhart by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Brock had been a resident of Coon Memorial Nursing Home for more than nine years. She was born May 7, 1915, in Thomas, N.M., to Sam Oliver and Francis Augusta McCarley Houston. She married Albert Eugene Brock on Feb. 15, 1934, in Stinnett. They ranched and farmed for several years in and around Dalhart and the Panhandle area. They made their home in Dalhart since 1960. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; a son, Billy Brock; two brothers, Walter Houston and Richard Houston; two sisters, Marion McCartney and Myrtle Johnston; and a great-grandson. Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Thomas and husband, Eldon, of Dalhart; two sons, Kenneth Brock and wife, Sharon, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jackie Brock and wife, Jean, of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; a daughter-in-law, Marie Brock of Tenmile, Ore.; a sister, Marie Killebrew and husband, Walter, of Canadian; a sister-in-law, Betty Houston of Ceres, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews. "Connie" Martinez, 81, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church with Sotero Sena officiating. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Martinez came to Clovis in 1945 and married Elijio Martinez on June 16, 1948. She was a licensed practical nurse working for the old Clovis Memorial Hospital, Clovis High Plains Hospital and Days Nursing Home. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Marta Sullivan of Franklin, Mass., Florella Broyles and Cynthia Lujan, both of Clovis, and Margaret Martinez of Houston; six sons, Buddy Martinez of Atlanta, Ron Martinez of Seattle, Eddie Martinez of Fort Worth, Stan Martinez of Austin, Texas, Richard Martinez of Clovis and Lawrence Sanchez of Florida; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 2, 2002 Betty 'Lucille' Gulley CLOVIS, N.M. - Betty "Lucille" Gulley, 63, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sunset Terrace Cemetery of Farwell, Texas. Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home. Mrs. Gulley married Dennis "Buddy" Gulley on Aug. 11, 1955, in Clovis. She worked for JCPenneys department store in Clovis for 20 years as the catalog manager before retiring in 2001. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Tony Gulley of Yorba Linda, Calif., Gary Gulley and Steven Gulley, both of Clovis; a brother, Joe Carpenter of Clovis; and six grandchildren.
