Interstate 40, with Dr. Howard Batson of First Baptist Church and Robert Bennett, pastor of Freedom Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Lewis was born Aug. 28, 1934, in Wheeler County. She moved to Amarillo in 1960. She was a bus driver for Amarillo Independent School District for more than 20 years, retiring in 2002. She was an Avon President Club Member and an Avon representative for more than 20 years. She was a member of Hilltop Senior Citizens Club and was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denzil Homer Lewis. Survivors include a daughter, Shelia Escobedo and husband, Pablo, of Amarillo; two sons, Rodney Lewis and Gary Dean Lewis, both of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Martin was born March 19, 1920, in Wister, Okla. She married Howard Martin on April 30, 1939, in Leflore County, Okla. She moved to Amarillo in 1943 from Wister. She retired after 25 years as a cafeteria manager for Amarillo Independent School District. Her life's work was taking care of family and friends. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Patsy Ann Corley and husband, Doug, of Clovis, N.M.; two grandchildren, Mandy Corley of Amarillo and Braxton Corley and wife, Lisa, of Fort Worth; a great-grandchild, Lane Douglas Corley of Fort Worth; and two sisters, Mae Johnson and Ruth Qualls, both of Wister. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 10, 2002 Alice Oleta Taylor Sinclair Alice Oleta Taylor Sinclair, 84, formerly of Amarillo, of Aiken, S.C., died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002. Jerry Billington, pastor of pastoral care at Trinity Fellowship Church, officiating. Mrs. Sinclair was born in Hedley, to Joseph Riley Killian and Mary Alice Belcher Killian, and moved to Amarillo on Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 1918. She was a longtime resident of Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School with the class of 1936 and graduated from Amarillo College in 1938. She worked at Dixon Drug downtown and was a cook at Amarillo College, where she went to night school and became a legal secretary for law firms in Amarillo. She retired in 1982 and moved to Aiken in 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Sinclair in 1987; and a daughter, Anna Clarice Garrett in 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lynn Weiss of Morgantown, W.Va.,; a son, James E. "Eddy" Taylor III of Aiken; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Boykin was born in Childress and lived there most of her life until moving to Amarillo a few years ago. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.E. Boykin in 1977. Survivors include two nephews, Pat Christal of Amarillo and John O. Christal of Albany, Ga.; and a niece, Betty Jean Hunt of Austin. Amarillo Globe-News, Dec. 10, 2002 Abraham "Abe" Latman Abraham "Abe" Latman, 88, of Amarillo died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002. Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with Rabbi Jeffrey Laynor, of Dallas, and Steve Gens officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Latman was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on May 31, 1914, to Leo and Anna Latman. His only sister, Myrtle Rosenblith, preceded him in death. Mr. Latman graduated from Sammuel Tilden High School in Brooklyn with honors. He attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla., from 1933 to 1936 majoring in psychology. When his children were in college he returned to college and in 1962 earned a B.S. degree from West Texas State University, and in 1965 earned a master of arts degree of economics from West Texas State University. He taught courses in economics and psychology at Frank Phillips Junior College in Borger from 1965 to 1975. In 1975 he passed the Texas Bar and became a licensed attorney in the state of Texas. He was one of the last persons to be allowed to study law in a lawyer's office and take the bar exam without having to go to law school. He passed the bar exam the first time he took it. From 1937 to 1980 he was president of Texas Pipe and Metal Company in Borger. From 1950 to 1953 he was the owner of the Borger Gassers, a professional minor league baseball team in Borger. From 1950 to 1960 he was president of Electric Motor Exchange and from 1965 to 1976 he was president of Texas Air and Hydraulic Company. Abe Latman practiced law in Borger from 1975 until his death. In 1967 he became the president of the Texas American Life Insurance Company. Abe Latman was also certified as ground school instructor by the Federal Aviation Administration and was a licensed amateur radio operator with the call sign of W5OIIN. Abe Latman was an award winning photographer whose photographs were exhibited all across North America. He was a skilled HO gauge train maker and a skilled gem cutter. Abe Latman moved to Borger in 1936 and was very active in civic, political and social events not only in the Panhandle of Texas but across the country. From 1951 to 1976 Mr. Latman was Hutchison County Bond chairman for United States TreasuBonds. Among the many citations and awards awarded to him by the United States Department of Treasury was the Minute Man Coin for Patriotic service in 1966. Since 1982 he had served on the Hutchinson County Juvenile Probation board and the Borger Housing Authority. He had served as co-chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee in Hutchinson County to determine the best disposition for the county hospital. In 1968, he was elected president of the Texas Association of B'nai B'rith and, in 1976, president of District Seven B'nai B'rith which covers seven southern states. In 1975 he served as a member of the International Board of Governors of B'nai B'rith. Since 1975 he had been on the board of directors of Leo N. Levi National Arthritis Hospital in Hot Springs, Ark. He had also served on the board of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce, the Lubbock small business administration advisory board, Salvation Army advisory board, chairman of the United Fund Drive and the March of Dimes Drive. He married his college sweetheart, Rebecca Latman, in 1937 and remained married to her until her death on Oct. 10, 2002. Survivors include two sons, Judge Stanley Latman of Dallas and Dr. Neal Latman of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Lana Latman of Dallas; a brother-in-law, Joe Bauxer; grandchildren, Audrey Latman Gruber of New York, Candace Latman Baer of Houston and Brandon Latman of Los Angeles; and a great-grandchild, Jett Kenneth Baer of Houston. Burial will be at noon Wednesday in Groom Cemetery in Groom. "Mrs. Smitty" was born in Groom, moving to Amarillo 51 years ago. She owned and operated Smitty's Drive-In on historic Sixth Street and worked in the food industry in Amarillo for many years. She was a Christian. Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Hendrick was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Lipan. She graduated from Santo High School in 1939 and from Draughn's Business School in 1956. She married Luther Hendrick, her husband of 63 years, on July 22, 1939, in Patillo. After a three-year residency in Richmond, Calif., during World War II she moved to Amarillo in 1945. She was a member of the Quarter Century Club, Borden, Inc. and retired from the Borden Company in 1983 after 28 years of service as a payroll clerk. She was a charter member of Bykota Baptist Church, and Esther Sunday School class, where she faithfully served the church in many capacities, but especially in the shut-in-ministry. She was known and loved for her sweet Christian spirit, faithfulness in prayer and ever present optimism and determination. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Brenda Scott and husband, Tabor, of Phoenix and Amarillo; a son, Doug Hendrick and wife, Charlette, of Lubbock; a brother, Tullie Herring of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Kendre Flowers and Conn Flowers, both of Dallas, and Keely Harral and Trent Hendrick, both of Lubbock; six great-grandchildren, Kayce Flowers of Amarillo, Gage Mariano of Dallas, and Abby, Brody and Chloe Hendrick and Audrey Harral, all of Lubbock; many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends; and a host of walking buddies at Westgate Mall and Gold's Gym water aerobics friends.
