Fortenberry Spear, 80, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Brooks Happy Chapel with the Rev. Paul Burwash, pastor of First Baptist Church in Happy, officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery by Holley Funeral Home of Canyon. Mrs. Spear was born Oct. 14, 1922, in Henrietta, and married Ray Spear on Dec. 25, 1943. She attended Happy Schools and graduated with her master's degree in education from West Texas State University. She taught for 27 years in Happy Independent School District. She served as a volunteer at High Plains Baptist Hospital for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Nina Bush; two sisters, Faye Hargrove and Gladys Dougherty; and three brothers, Paul Fortenberry, Joe Fortenberry and Ed Fortenberry. Survivors include a sister, Lonas Wright; a son, Richard K. Spear; a daughter, Patricia Kay Bryant; nine grandchildren, Casey Bates, Raymond Gutheinz, Sherie White, Mary Crist, Barbara Spear, Nicholas Spear, Nichole Spear, Devin Bryant and Rory Bryant; six great-grandchildren, Raymond Bates, A.J. Bates, Autumn Summers, Jordan Summers, Joshua Crist and Austin Bryant; nine nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Happy. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 2, 2003 Pauline S. White DALHART - Pauline S. White, 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery with Bob McAlister, pastor of First Baptist Church of Channing, officiating. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. White was born March 18, 1916, in Aberdeen, to John C. and Nettie Purcell Stewart. They moved to the Texas Panhandle in a wagon when Pauline was just a year old. Pauline graduated from Dalhart High School and worked for the Express Office during World War II, and worked many years for City Drug. On May 19, 1935, she married Leldon White in Clayton, N.M. Leldon died on July 5, 1987. In December 1996, she married Raymond Blanks, he died in 2001. Pauline was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Emery; a granddaughter, Charlotte McCarthy; her husbands; and a nephew, Jack Stewart. Survivors include a daughter, Doris Conrad and husband, Jack, of Dalhart; a sister, Ruby Enfield of Dalhart; two grandsons, Mark Willis of Castle Rock, Colo., and Mike Willis of Alpine, Wyo.; three great-granddaughters, Misty Hay of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Becky McCarthy and Mandy McCarthy, both of Borger; a great-great-grandson, Luke McCarthy of Borger; and two nieces, Helen Stortz of Weaverville, Calif., and Peggy Small of Ventura, Calif. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Bovina Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona. Mrs. Hammonds was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Indian Creek. She married J.T. Hammonds on May 25, 1941, in Bovina. She was a resident of Bovina for 63 years, moving from McAdoo in 1939. She was a retired school teacher. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bovina and United Methodist Women. Mrs. Tucker was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Illinois Bend. She married Richard Tucker on April 4, 1969, in Friona. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bobby Kemell and Kenny Kemell, both of Plainview; two stepsons, Phil Tucker of San Angelo and Jeff Tucker of Las Cruces, N.M.; four grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 2, 2003 Emily Christine Swink Sollock CANADIAN - Emily Christine Swink Sollock, 94, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, in Perryton. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Les Hall, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors. Mrs. Sollock was born Dec. 4, 1908, four and a half miles southwest of Old Mobeetie, to Leland Lorenzo and Leona Morrison Swink. She was one of eight children. In 1915, she moved with her family to Ochiltree County in a covered wagon, and they settled in the southwest part of the county. Christine attended a country school, Cedar Bluff. On April 3, 1949, she married Ira Weldon Sollock in Perryton. The following year the couple moved to Kress and operated an irrigated farm. In 1960, she and her husband moved to their ranch north of Canadian. Her husband, Ira, died in 1991 and in 1995, Christine moved to the Abraham Home in Canadian. She always claimed her greatest accomplishment was the day she became a Christian. Christine was a member of First United Methodist Church in Canadian. She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Griffin, Arthur, Harmon and Tom; and two sisters, Nettie and Mary. Survivors include a brother, Norman Swink and wife, Ann, of Perryton; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Luster was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Johnson County, Okla. He married Lou Annie Boykin on July 16, 1951, in Wichita, Kan. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Shelia Johnson and Sondria Shaw, both of Plainview; a sister, Betty King of Hart; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 2, 2003 Orville L. Flaming PERRYTON - Orville L. Flaming, 73, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Ochiltree Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Flaming was a veteran of the Navy. He worked for Alpar Resources as a roustabout. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Llano East Cemetery with Bob Thomas, chaplain of Crown of Texas Hospice, officiating. Military rites will be by Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Lamkin was born in Memphis. He served in the Army during World War II, where he received the EAME campaign medal with six Bronze Stars. He owned and operated an oil well drilling company and the Inter Urban Inn in Kermit from 1946 to 1950. He also worked in the oil pipe business in Colorado City. He moved to Amarillo in 1950 where he and his wife owned and operated a restaurant and rodeo arena at Interstate 40 and Lakeside. Mr. Lamkin worked as a real estate agent and owned Panhandle Merchants Association. From 1970 to 1975, he worked as a commodities broker. He retired in 1975. He married Lucille "Lou" Smith in 1942, at Neosho, Mo. He was preceded in death by a his wife in 2000. Survivors include three sons, W.W. Lamkin Jr. and Micheal Lamkin, both of Amarillo, and Jay Lamkin of Anchorage, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 2, 2003 Carmen Trevino Pompa Carmen Trevino Pompa, 73, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in New Life International with Oscar "Spike" Maldonado, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Pompa was born in Concrete. She moved to Amarillo from Cuero in 1968. She was a homemaker. She served as church treasurer at New Life International where she was a charter member. She married Juan Pompa in 1952 at Cuero. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001. Survivors include three daughters, Rebecca Pompa of Cuero, and Helen Herrera and Cynthia Martinez, both of Amarillo; three sons, Raul "Roy" Pompa and David Pompa, both of Amarillo, and Ishmael Pompa of Cuero; four sisters, Katie Maldonado, Josephine Maldonado and Beatrice Anzaldua, all of Amarillo, and Hope De Los Santos of Denver City; four brothers, Simon Trevino and Abel Trevino, both of Cuero, Jose Maria Trevino of Point Comfort and Fred Trevino of Victoria; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to New Life International. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 2, 2003 Charles B. Sadler, M.D. Charles B. Sadler, M.D., 88, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Garrett officiating. Private family burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Dr. Sadler was born May 15, 1914, in Caldwell. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1936 from University of Texas. He earned his medical doctorate from the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston in 1939. He served in the 124th National Guard Cavalry Regiment, and during World War II as a flight surgeon with the Army Air Corps, 454th B-26 Bomber Squadron. He was a member of the staff of St. Anthony's Hospital, Northwest Texas Hospital, associate staff of High Plains Baptist Hospital and a consultant of Veterans Administration Hospital of Amarillo. He was in private practice from 1947 to 1985, then worked for Veteran's Hospital from 1985 to 1988, where he was the orthopedic consultant with the Military Entrance Processing Service. His memberships include American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Western Orthopedic Association, Texas Medical Association, Potter/Randall County Medical Association, Texas Orthopedic Association, and The Society of 1824 at the Medical University of South Carolina as a fellow. He served as a past president of the staff of Northwest Texas Hospital in 1953, past president of Texas Orthopedic Association in 1964, past president of the staff of St. Anthony's Hospital in 1957 and 1965, and past president of Potter/Randall County Medical Society in 1965. He was on the board of directors of St. Anthony's Hospital from 1974 to 1976. He was on the membership committee for American College of Surgeons for the past six years. He was a member of Texas Crippled Children's Program since 1949. He was chief of the Department of Physical Therapy at St. Anthony's Hospital. He received an honorary membership to Texas Medical Association for notable contributions and outstanding service to the profession of medicine and to the people of Texas. On May 30, 1996, he was awarded the emeritus medical staff of the Amarillo Veteran's Administration. He was a member of Rotary Club of Amarillo, Beethoven Society with the Amarillo Symphony and the 50/50 Sunday School Class at Polk Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Janine Mallett of Amarillo; two sons, Bruce Sadler of Amarillo and Don Sadler of San Francisco; a sister, Mary Kammarmeyer of Livingston; a brother, James Sadler of Hempstead; and four grandchildren. Bell St. Mr. Duke was born Oct. 10, 1926, in Sherman. He married Barbara Pearson in El Paso in 1974. He was a veteran of the Coast Guard and Navy. He received a Purple Heart during World War II. He was employed as a senior sales representative for Beatrice Hunt Wesson Foods for many years, retiring in 1988. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kathy Pullins of Orem, Utah; four sons, Michael Talley of Kona, Hawaii, J.R. Talley of Penrose, Colo., and Patrick Talley and Brian Talley, both of Canyon; a sister, Euna Hague of Mesquite; two brothers, Jim Duke of Oxford, Miss., and Charles Duke of Mesquite; and six grandchildren.
