Dr. McCan was born Oct. 29, 1920, in Wilson to Samuel Ernest and Beulah Rosie White McCan. He was a member of the Christian Church for more than 40 years. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. Woolfe was born in Broadhead, Colo., on Feb. 26, 1921. He married Helen Ball on April 2, 1943, in Pueblo, Colo. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the eighth Air Force Bomb Group 385 with 30 missions. He received the distinguished flying cross, the air medal with three oak leaf clusters, the presidential unit citation, ETO with three stars, American campaign medal and World War II victory medal. He was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church and the VFW. He retired from Farmers Insurance Group after 25 years as an agent in Pampa. He moved to Amarillo in 1986. He was past president of Life Underwriters Association. Stuppi, 93, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002. Services were held in First Presbyterian Church Chapel with Dr. Jim Bankhead officiating. Burial was in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Stuppi was born June 20, 1909, in Magdalena, N.M., and attended high school and business college in Albuquerque, N.M. He later studied management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and graduated from the Institute of Business Economics at the University of Southern California. He joined the Santa Fe Railway in 1927 as a clerk in the engineering department in Gallup, N.M., and later moved to the operating department where he became secretary to the general manager at Los Angeles. In 1941 he was appointed transportation inspector at Los Angeles. In 1943 he became train master at Needles, Calif., and transferred to San Bernardino in that capacity in 1946. In 1948 he became superintendent of the Plains Division at Amarillo and in 1952 was transferred to the Valley Division at Fresno, Calif. Successive upward moves included the posts of assistant general manager at Los Angeles and assistant to the vice president of operations at Chicago. He returned to Amarillo in 1961 as general manager of the Western Lines until his retirement in 1974. His affiliations included those of board chairman of the Santa Fe Memorial Hospital at Temple; trustee of the Texas Safety Association at Austin; director of the Palo Duro Canyon "Texas" production; the American Red Cross, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Society; and the Amarillo Area Foundation. He was a former ambassador of Khiva Shrine. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Virginia. Survivors include a daughter, Liz Cantrell and husband, Don, of Amarillo; a son, Norman Stuppi of Amarillo; a brother, Vincent Stuppi of Hillsborough, Calif.; two grandchildren, Carolina Clark of Dallas and Tom Cantrell of Amarillo; and a good friend, Frances Dement. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Wilson was born Sept. 6, 1901, in Mineral Wells to Wiley Gaston and Martha Jane Shoemaker. She married John G. Wilson in 1918. She was a homemaker and owned her own beauty shop in Ysleta. They lived in the El Paso area until Mr. Wilson's death in 1980 at which time Bertie moved to Amarillo. She was a member of the A.E. Shirley No. 986 OES in Amarillo and Ysleta No. 991 OES. She and her husband were charter members of First Baptist Church in Fabens and were former members of Clint and Ysleta Baptist Churches in the lower El Paso Valley. Bertie was an active member at Paramount Baptist and spent many hours volunteering and teaching Sunday school in all churches she attended. She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Wilson Sr.; five brothers, Chester, B.B., Gaston, Olen and Woodrow Shoemaker; and a sister, Beatrice Griffin. Survivors include a sister, Bernice Clifton of Houston; a son, J. Grady Wilson Jr. and wife, Ellen; four grandchildren, Linda Blake and husband, Bruce, John G. Wilson III, Melissa Prater and husband, Alan, all of Amarillo, and Kevin L. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 5, 2003 Galen Philip Foster Galen Philip Foster, 70, of Amarillo died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Assembly of God Church. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Foster was born Jan. 19, 1932, at Grand Island, Neb., to the Rev. and Mrs. E.R. Foster. The family moved to Amarillo in 1933. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1950, TCU in 1954 and received a master's degree from WTSU and advanced graduate work at UTEP. He served in the Army during the Korean War and later taught at River Road School and Palo Duro High School. He was assistant registrar at Amarillo College and worked for the Veterans Administration in Waco and El Paso for 16 years as a vocational counselor to disabled veterans. He was a member of the San Jacinto Assembly of God Church. He was an active member of Gospel Bears and served on the Foster Scholarship Committee. He married Carol Hornstra on June 18, 1971, in Amarillo. They lived in El Paso for 16 years. While in El Paso he was active in the Mount Franklin Kiwanis Club. He received the outstanding member award in 1973. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In 1989 he received a heart transplant in Oklahoma City. He was a member of TRIO (Transplant Recipients International Organization). He also belonged to American Legion Post 54. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ralph and David. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cindy Sierzchula and husband, Dave, of Phoenix; a son, Phil Foster and wife, LaJuana, of Phoenix; five grandchildren, Jeremy Kellum, Courtney Sierzchula, Tyler Foster and Lauren Foster, all of Phoenix, and Ashlee Foster of Dallas; a sister, Kathleen Stafford and husband, the Rev. He moved to Pampa, attended and graduated from high school there, and later attended and graduated from Lubbock Christian College. He was well known in the radio industry for his innovative voices on local commercials as was a No. 1 on-air personality, promotion and music direction. He received multi awards from the Amarillo Advertising Association. His profile was in Accent West Magazine in a "Pilot of the Airwaves" feature article. "Jack" Vermeulen, 86, of Amarillo died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Monsignor Joseph Tash, of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Vermeulen moved to Amarillo in 1974 from Florida. He had retired from the Florida Power and Light as a master electrician and he taught journeymen electricians for the union and he was a substation foreman for Florida Power and Light. He was a captain and a communications officer for the Civil Air Patrol in Amarillo. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Margaret; a son and three daughters, all of Florida; a daughter, Mary Margaret Kempson of Amarillo; a brother, Theodore Vermeulen of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, including Jerri and David, both of Amarillo; and 15 great-grandchildren. Private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Green was born July 13, 1912, in Lefors to Siler and Edna Faulkner. She was a graduate of Pampa High School and Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. She married Eugene L. Green Jr. on Oct. 5, 1935. They were married 57 years before his death on Dec. 8, 1992. She was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church, joining in 1926. She was on the Board of Regents of Texas Woman's University from 1969 to 1975. She was also an active board member of the Lovett Memorial Library from Aug. 10, 1964, until she was honored with a reception in 1998 for her 34 years of service. The Friends of the Library also made her the Librarian of the Year on Nov. 17, 1997. She was the chairperson for creating the reading garden at the library along with Mrs. Louise Franklin. She was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in 1968. The family wishes to give special thanks to her caregivers, Brenda Calixto, Carolina Sanchez, Angeles Gonzales, Abdulia Miranda and Bob Lindsey with Crown of Texas Hospice of Amarillo for their loyal, faithful and loving care during her illness.
