Mr. Abalos married Pilar Martinez on July 13, 1957, in Presidio. He graduated from Rankin High School in 1955, Sul Ross University in 1961, and West Texas University in 1968. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Randy White, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mr. Tinney was born July 30, 1915, in Charlie. He had been a resident of Pampa since 1952, moving from Wellington. He married Ola Boyles on Sept. 22, 1932, in Hollis, Okla. She preceded him in death on Dec. 9, 2002. He was a very prominent builder throughout the Panhandle for more than 40 years. He was very instrumental in the development of real estate in Pampa. He was past president of the Panhandle Home Builder's Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Everyman's Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by a brother, R.J. Tinney. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Pearce was born May 9, 1940, in Burns Flat, Okla., to Samuel L. and Lottie Beck Pearce. He was raised in Sayre, Okla., and was a chef there before moving to Dalhart with his wife Sheila in 1978. He worked for XIT Feeders and was forced into retirement after an accident. He and Sheila remained in Dalhart where he oversaw the area circulation and delivery for the Amarillo Globe-News for many years. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Michelle L. Mr. Cox was born Jan. 25, 1915, in Merit to Jessie Alberta and Walter William Cox. He was married to Bobbie Lou Shearer on Aug. 7, 1937. She died on March 12, 1977. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Gehring was born Feb. 9, 1922, to Mae Runyan and Herman F. Gehring Sr. in Houston. He attended San Jacinto High School in Houston, Rice Institute and The University of Texas. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Mr. Gehring retired as a 1st Lt. in the Army, serving in World War II in the 45th infantry division in Africa, Sicily, Italy and France. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart while serving in southern France. He married Saranne Smith on Aug. 18, 1945, in Amarillo. They lived in Amarillo, where he had worked as a Realtor since 1951. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church for 57 years. Mr. Gehring touched the lives of many young people through coaching. He started the YMCA Baseball Program in 1949 and was the first director. He coached YMCA baseball, Kid's Inc. football and St. Andrew's basketball teams. Preceding him in death was a sister, Ella Mae Gehring. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry Gehring and Kurt Gehring, both of Amarillo; a sister, Bettye Gardner of Houston; two grandsons, Taylor and Reid Gehring; a granddaughter, Lauren Gehring; and several nieces and nephews. McNaghten, 79, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Children's Chapel of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Clifton Mann, rector, officiating. Private burial will be by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. McNaghten was born in Pawhuska, Okla., the first of two children of L.M. "Bud" and Twila Batten. She grew up in Pampa and attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. During World War II, she worked at Pampa Air Force base where she met Capt. "Junie" Shaw. The two married in Houston and subsequently resided in Stockbridge, Mass., until Junie's untimely death in 1952. Betty moved to Amarillo to work as a secretary to the Bishop of the Diocese of the Episcopal Church. She also volunteered as a "Gray Lady" at the VA Hospital and with several church guilds at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. In 1962, Betty married J.R. "Bob" McNaghten, a CPA with a private practice in Amarillo. The couple were members of several social clubs. Survivors include three children, Nathan Shaw, Charles Shaw and Susie White; a brother, Bill Batten; and three grandchildren, Miles Batten Liston, Lauren Elizabeth Liston and Bree Ann Owens. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 10, 2003 Johnny N. Allen Sr. Johnny N. Allen Sr., 83, of Amarillo died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003. Wake services will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Warford-Walker Mortuary, 509 N. Hughes St. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Carver Academy with the Rev. Terry Jones of Messiah Baptist Church in Los Angeles officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Allen was born July 24, 1919, in McGregor, to John and Willie O. Smith. He graduated from Dunbar High School in Temple, Samuel Huston College in Austin and received his master's degree from Prairie View A&M in Prairie View. He married Jewelle L. Bailey on Dec. 27, 1942, in Houston, before leaving for Europe during World War II as a member of Army Air Corps. After his military service, he became assistant coach at Tillotson College in Austin. From 1946 to 1948, he coached at Lincoln-Jackson School in Clovis, N.M. He moved to Amarillo in 1948 as a teacher and coach at Carver High School. He taught mathematics and coached all sports, boys and girls. He taught at Carver High until it was phased out in 1967. After the closing of Carver, he taught at Horace Mann Junior High and ended his teaching career at Amarillo High School in 1985. From 1952 to 1970, he managed North Heights Swimming Pool and worked for the city of Amarillo in summer youth programs. During his coaching career, his teams won the 1952 football state championship, the 1964 and 1965 track state championships, the 1966 track state runner-up, and numerous individual state track champions and district titles in football and track. Mr. Allen had been named Panhandle High School Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame, the Huston-Tillotson Athletic Hall of Fame and Texas Black Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was a member of Jenkins Chapel Baptist Church, where he taught the Men's Bible Study Class for more than 40 years. He also served as a deacon, usher, brotherhood president and finance chairman. He was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, a 33nd Degree Mason, past master of Markwell Masonic Lodge 415, past potentate of Ozair Temple 146, treasurer of John W. McKinney Consistory 288, and past deputy of Region 21. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Johnny Nell of Matteson, Ill., and Courtney O. She also served as docent at the Amarillo Art Center. She was an interior decorator with Southern's Hughes Home Beautiful and McKelveys. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Paul Jones of Corpus Christi, W. Vance Swinburn of Tulia, and Russ Ledyard; and a son, George Jones of Amarillo. She was a member of PEO and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Survivors include two stepdaughters, Carol Adcock and husband, Bob, of Fort Worth and Mary D. Mr. Fernandez was born on July 25, 1945, in Del Rio, moving to Amarillo 10 years ago. He was a subcontractor. He was Catholic. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 10, 2003 Oklahoma Myrtle L. Doshier Myrtle L. Doshier, 94, of Spearman, formerly of Hardesty, Okla., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Spearman with the Rev. John Goss of First Baptist Church of Adams, Okla., officiating. Mrs. Doshier was born April 16, 1908, in a one-room dugout at Grand Valley, Okla., to Will and Ruth Burton. She was the oldest of seven children, four girls and three boys. All have preceded her in death except one sister, Ona McClenagan of Gruver. She experienced the pioneer life of living in a dugout, riding in a wagon, gathering cow chips for fuel, and going to a country school. She graduated from Texhoma High School in 1927 and shortly thereafter began teaching school. She taught at Tamarack School, Pleasant Hill at Camrick and at Range, all southeast of Hardesty, Okla. She later taught at Guymon, Okla., at New Bethel east of Guymon, at Palestine, at Bethany, and then at Hitchland. For 17 years she then taught at Hardesty, Okla., retiring in 1970. She married Oscar Doshier on March 30, 1934. He died in 1995. She continued to reside on the family farm before moving to Spearman in 1996. Survivors include her sister; a daughter, Donnie Mitchell and husband, Dwayne, of Spearman; two granddaughters, Paige Sultemeier and husband, Chris, and children Daniel and Joseph, of Roger Arkansas, and Shelley Baloglou and husband, Chris, and children, Christin and Caitlin, of Amarillo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Emma, Springdale, Ark., 72764. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 10, 2003 Eleswhere Keith Mitchell Keith Mitchell, 41, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., died Monday, Jan. 6. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Westminster Presbyterian Church with burial at Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Mitchell was born and raised in Amarillo and was most recently chief information officer at the Denver Veterans Administration Hospital. He joined the Veterans Administration nearly 20 years ago, working with the late Ernie Farino in the medical media department. After the department closed, he impressed Dan Gray, then chief of the Amarillo VA facility's information resource management department, and began working in IRM. While working as a computer assistant at the Amarillo VA, he was one of 12 candidates selected nationwide from among 60 applicants for management training. He moved to Oklahoma City for a year and after successfully completing training, he played a significant role in updating the VA computer infrastructure in progressively responsible positions at El Paso, Miles City, Mont., Grand Junction, Colo., and Denver. At the time of his appointment in 1994 to Miles City, he was the youngest chief information officer in the VA system. He attended Paramount Terrace Elementary and Crockett Junior High School. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1981 and attended Amarillo College. After joining the VA, he participated in advanced training in Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C., Dallas, Atlanta, Long Beach, Calif., and other sites. As a teen-ager, he competed fiercely in the Amarillo amateur ice hockey league and had the knee surgeries and bad back to prove it. He loved the outdoors, gardening and flowers. Like his dad, he took pride in having one of the nicest yards on his block. He and his long-time companion, Kathy Goering, had extensively landscaped their back yard in Highlands Ranch. They used a skid-steer loader to personally move in 21 tons of rock and topsoil then planted more than 20 trees and built a deck to create a highly personalized environment. He made pictures of the tomatoes from their Miles City garden to show his mom and dad that his were larger than theirs. He was a culinary artist of some repute. His jalapeno pepper poppers caused the El Paso fire department to be called to his apartment complex. He grilled steaks with a stopwatch and was one of the few people to wear out two complete gas grills. He wanted to open a good barbecue joint or join his sister-in-law Carmen in opening a restaurant after retiring from government service. Honorary pall bearers include P.J. Mrs. Collier was born Sept. 15, 1901, to Ellis and Kathryn (Cash) Peters at Clifton City, Mo. She married Charles Robert Collier on Nov. 8, 1919. He preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by her oldest child, Jackson Arthur Collier. Her long eventful life was spent in Missouri, Michigan, New Mexico, California and her last years in Texas. She was a homemaker and operated coffee shops in Michigan and New Mexico. Her home was always open to visitors, especially the neighborhood kids. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Las Vegas, N.M. Survivors include two daughters, Opal Griffin of Greensville, S.C., and Lotus Goetsch of Las Vegas, N.M.; a son, Charles Collier of Canyon; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
