Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church of Gruver with the Rev. Scott Curry officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mr. Pepper was a grain elevator manager. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gruver. He graduated from Texas Tech in 1970. He was employed by Attebury Grain as manager for Berstein and Hitchland Elevators. He was a Mason and member of Khiva Temple of the Shrine. He was co-owner, manager and partner of The Country Barn Steakhouse from 1977 to 1990. He was an agriculture teacher at Caprock High School from 1970 to 1977. Survivors include his wife, Diana; a son, Duke Pepper of Amarillo; a daughter, Tracy Stark of Frankfurt, Germany; a brother, J. Memorial graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Fairmont Cemetery with the Rev. Clay Wells, pastor of First Baptist Church of Follett, officiating. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home of Amarillo, 2800 S. Osage St., and Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck, Okla. Mr. Buchner was born in Spearman. He lived in Follett most of his life. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Texas A&M and received his law degree from University of Texas in 1962. He practiced law in Follett from 1962 to 2003. He was a member of Perryton Masonic Lodge and was a past master of Follett Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of Texas State Bar. Mr. Buchner married LaVeta Steinert in 1953 at Follett. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Clifford Dane, minister of senior adults at First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mrs. Kennedy was born in Greenville on Feb. 8, 1913, to Virgle J. and Manie L. Gaylord Rogers and they moved to Panhandle in 1921. On April 13, 1930, she married LeRoy Morris in Boise City, Okla., and in 1948 they moved to Dalhart. Clara was baptized into First Baptist Church in 1951 and has been an active member since. She enjoyed crafts, bowling and gardening. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, LeRoy Morris in 1953 and Roy Kennedy in 1968; five grandchildren; a sister; and a brother. Georgia St. Mr. Hromas was born in Clovis, N.M., on Oct. 19, 1933. He married Glenn"Tootsy" Barfield in Clovis on June 8, 1952. They previously lived in Bovina and moved to Amarillo in 1978. He was a paint contractor and retired as lead craftsman with Northwest Texas Hospital in 1995. He was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Greg Hromas, Rodney Hromas and Jeff Hromas; and three grandsons, Alan, Ryan and Kyle. She was raised and lived in San Bernardino, Calif., for many years. She resided in Amarillo for the past 11 years. She passed away on Jan. 14, 2003; she was 92 years old. She was preceded in death by a son, William Brumbelow; a daughter, Doris Silik; and a grandson, Lawrence Habel. Henson Sylvia S. Henson, 92, of Amarillo died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003. Family services will be at a later date in Grants Pass, Ore. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery in Grants Pass by N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Henson was born in Lockney. She lived in Grants Pass for 30 years. She married Melvin E. Henson on Sept. 3, 1928. Mrs. Henson moved to Amarillo in 2000 from Grants Pass. She was a homemaker and a member of Savage Street Church of Christ in Grants Pass. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985. Simpson of Cottonwood, Ariz. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 16, 2003 Harrold Afton "Hap" Cavness Harrold Afton "Hap" Cavness, 79, of Amarillo died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with Bob Thomas, chaplain of Crown of Texas Hospice, officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Hereford. Dr. Cavness was born in San Saba on Jan. 6, 1924, to Elton Virgil Cavness and Carrie Emaline "Jacque" Dean Cavness, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Austin High School in Austin in 1942. He served in the Navy during World War II. He married Gladys Faye Henry on Feb. 27, 1946, in Austin. After the war, he attended the University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation, he attended Baylor University Dental School in Dallas. "Hap" practiced general dentistry in Hereford from 1951 until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of Fellowship of Believers in Hereford. He was active in the Kiwanis Club of Hereford, Lions Club of Hereford, Hereford Country Club, Hereford Chamber of Commerce and Hereford Hustlers. Dr. Cavness was a Shriner and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of Palo Duro Dental Study Group. He was also a member of Hereford Volunteer Fire Department. In addition, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoor sportsman. "Hap" will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 16, 2003 Elsewhere Hazel Starr Tice LUBBOCK - Hazel Starr Tice, 90, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in St. Luke's United Methodist Church with Dr. Will Cotton officiating. Arrangements are by White Funeral Home. Mrs. Tice was born June 18, 1912, in Anderson County, near Elkhart to Alvin and Marybelle Starr, pioneer East Texas settlers. She married Lloyd E. Tice on June 9, 1936, in Hereford. Hazel completed high school in Elkhart and began teacher training at Sam Houston State Teachers College. She taught school in Anderson County. She earned two degrees from Texas Tech University: a bachelor of science in education in 1954, and a master of education in 1957. During her teaching career, which spanned more than 35 years, she taught in Lincoln County, Oregon, as well as Deaf Smith County and Lubbock County. She retired from Lubbock Independent School District in 1976 after teaching at Posey, Wolfforth and Parsons Elementary schools. She was a life-member of Texas State Teachers Association, National Education Association and was a current member of Lubbock Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and Anchor Sunday school class. The themes of family and friendship marked Hazel's life. Education was important to both her and her husband Lloyd and they lived to see their children and grandchildren earn college degrees. Hazel was retired from teaching more than 26 years, but she didn't stop teaching. She enjoyed quilting and shared this art with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and taught children and grandchildren how to make favorite family recipes. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 13, 1995; three brothers, Lonnie Starr, Luther Starr and Lester Starr; and two sisters, Variel Starr Garner and Irene Starr. Survivors include three daughters, Colene Fielding of Lubbock, Emalu Price of Amarillo and Marjory McCowen of Arlington; a son, Bobby L. Tice of Temple; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and neighbors.
