"Pete" Odom, 80, of Amarillo died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lynn Garrett of the church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mr. Odom was born Aug. 24, 1922, in Washburn, to Terry B. Odom and Sarah Ada Burnett Odom. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1940. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Burch, on Nov. 8, 1940, in Amarillo. Mr. Odom worked at Furr's Food until his induction into the Army. He was a World War II veteran in the infantry during the German Campaign. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, Bronze Campaign Star and the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged. After his service in the Army, he went into real estate in 1946. Mr. Odom received his broker's license in 1955. He was a member of Amarillo Association of Realtors and held numerous positions on the Board of Realtors, including that of president in 1965. He was awarded Realtor of the Year in 1966. In 1999, he received recognition from Texas Real Estate Commission for having more than 50 years of service as a licensed real estate professional. Mr. Odom was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church and Gideons. He was also a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26, Military Order of the Purple Heart and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Michal Ann Whitehead and Julie Lyn Ritchie, both of Amarillo; a son, Oris L. "Buddy" Odom II of Red Springs; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Scrivener Juanita R. Scrivener, 71, of Amarillo died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003. Memorial services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mrs. Scrivener was born in Childress. She moved to Amarillo from Clovis, N.M., in 1966. She was honored by American Business Women's Association in Clovis as Woman of the Year in 1964. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Scrivener in 1992. She worked as a beautician in Amarillo for 30 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mr. Wiseman was a lifelong resident of Union County. He was a veteran of World War II and a 58-year member of American Legion. Grice, 93, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003. Services were at 10 a.m. Monday in Henson-Novak Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial was in Elmhurst Cemetery. Mr. Grice was born Oct. 18, 1909, the son of L.R. and Roxana Pilgrim Grice, in the home of his maternal grandparents, near Ranger in Eastland County, Texas. Roaten grew up southwest of Guymon, working with his father and brothers on the family homestead and attending school in Goodwell. Roaten married Ethel Nance on Sept. 19, 1929, in Goodwell. Times were hard and jobs were scarce. Roaten was a strong man, a willing and hard worker. His lifelong career and love for trucks began at age 17, driving his father's Model T truck. He enjoyed working with heavy equipment, building dams and roads, moving houses, but this was only a job of temporary necessity until he could find work with his truck. Roaten hauled gravel for construction of highways 3, 54, and 64, in 1932. He hauled wheat and followed harvest to near the Canadian border. He hauled coal from the mines in Colorado, fruit and vegetables from Colorado, New Mexico, Kansas, eastern Oklahoma and south Texas. In 1956, Roaten began hauling cattle with tractor-trailer rigs. By 1973, his fleet of trucks had grown to five tractor/trailer rigs and two bobtail trucks. Roaten was a truck driver for more than 55 years. He saw dirt roads become four-lane highways and Model T trucks evolve into the big rigs traveling our highways today. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ethel on Dec. 24, 1989; a sister, May Emanuel; four brothers, Ross Grice, Grady Grice, Ernest Grice and Gene Grice; and a grandchild. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Stewart and husband, Eddie, of Guymon; two sons, Arthur Grice and wife, Polly, of Amarillo, Texas, and Wilton Grice and wife, Phoebe, of Dumas, Texas; two sisters, Jewel Bohanan and Geraldine Riley, both of Amarillo; two brothers, Lawson and wife, Ruby, of Hardesty and Gale "Bill" and wife, Bea, of Goodwell; 14 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Petty worked as a seamstress. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Cole, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Spearman, officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors. Mrs. Smith had lived in Shamrock all of her life. Mrs. Smith was born on Jan. 31, 1911, in Shamrock, to John Houston Templeton and Kate E. Barnes Templeton. She attended the Chicago Institute of Performing Arts. She began her teaching career when she was 18 years old. She married J. Evert Smith on April 7, 1942, in Lubbock. Mrs. Smith had taught speech and drama for 57 years in the Shamrock School District and other Wheeler County schools. She taught private lessons until 2000. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Shamrock, the B&PW Club, Times Study Club and was a leader in 4-H. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Ronnie Smith in 1975 and a sister, Johnnie Templeton Rose. Mrs. McClenagan was born Sept. 28, 1911, in Grand Valley, Okla., to Will and Ruth Burton. She married Carroll Dean "Babe" McClenagan on March 28, 1937. Babe died in March 1946. Ona raised her three young children in Gruver and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Gruver. She was preceded in death by her six siblings; her husband; and a son, Dean McClenagan. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 21, 2003 Charles Gift PERRYTON - Charles Gift, 73, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Full Gospel Church with the Rev. Tim Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Gift was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of very few words and a large heart for all. He served in the Army for two years. He was stationed in Korea during the Korean conflict for a year. While overseas in March 1952, he accepted the Lord as his savior. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Ochiltree County and became very actively involved in farming and ranching. He was also employed by Perryton Independent School as a bus driver for 14 years. During his children's youth he was a very active Ochiltree 4-H leader. He later worked for Sperry New Holland as a shop foreman for 18 years. After his retirement he formed his own farm machinery repair business and continued to work daily. He was a Mason and a Shriner. Survivors include his wife, Rozella; two sons, Mike Gift and wife, Linda, of Gruver and Kenny Gift of Perryton; a daughter, Jo Williams and husband, Paddy, of Perryton; two brothers, Leon Gift of Balko, Okla., and Ivan Gift of Roseville, Calif.; two sisters, Lafaun Karber of Balko and Donna Bell Penner of Phoenix; four grandsons, Justin Gift and wife, Lexy, of Guymon, Okla., Jerry Gift and wife, Tina, of Hamlin, and Brad Williams and wife, Jamie, and Blake Williams, all of Perryton; a granddaughter, Amy Gift of Beaver, Okla.; a great-granddaughter, Paige Williams of Perryton; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Contreraz was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Pittsburg, Okla., the daughter of Rosalio and Dorotea Garza. She married Lorenzo Contreraz on Sept. 25, 1941. She was a homemaker and a resident of Hereford for more than 40 years.
