Chisholm, 86, formerly of Amarillo and Pampa, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in Denver. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Clifton Mann, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Chisholm, one of the Texas Panhandle's last true gentlemen, was born May 17, 1916, in Electra. He had moved to Denver in 1999 after a long and rewarding career in the oil and gas industry. At the age of 26, Mr. Chisholm served his country during World War II, where he served as a second lieutenant in the Armored Field Artillery Division in the European Theater, earning both the Bronze and Silver Stars. His distinguished career began when he was just 16 years old as a roustabout in the oil fields of Electra. After the war, in 1946 he began working with the Texas Company (better known as Texaco) as an oil scout. Mr. Chisholm was instrumental in developing the process of tracking leases and oil rights, a process that remains today. He then joined Cabot Carbon Corp. in 1948 as a landman. In 1950, he became the land department manager for Cabot Corp. Rising up the ranks at Cabot from landman and assistant to the manager of exploration and production, in 1967, Mr. Chisholm moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where he was vice president and general manager of Cabot Petroleum Limited. Upon his return from Canada, Mr. Chisholm remained general manager of Cabot Petroleum Limited as well as director of land and contracts, oil and gas division and the director of international department, oil and gas division for the Cabot Corp. In 1975, he moved from Pampa to Amarillo where he formed John W. Chisholm and Co., a petroleum consulting firm. A year later, he joined Earl T. Smith and Associates as senior vice president of exploration and production and maintained his consulting business. While with Earl T. Smith and Associates, he served as director for H.T.S. Enterprises, Century Aircraft Corp., and Earl T. Smith and Associates. His resume also included the directorships of Cabot Petroleum Limited, Petroleum Consultants (Nigeria) Ltd., and the Community Hotel Co. of Pampa. Mr. Chisholm was a former president and director of Panhandle Royalty Owners Association and the Pampa Club. He was also former vice president of Independent Petroleum Association of America. His affiliations included American Association of Petroleum Landmen, Independent Petroleum Association of America, Panhandle Association of Petroleum Landmen, Panhandle Natural Gas Society, Texas Mid-Continent Oil and Gas Association and Panhandle Producers and Royalty Owners. Still active in the oil and gas industry until his death, Mr. Chisholm will be missed and remembered by many as one of the last true gentlemen of this era. A former member of Pampa Country Club, Pampa Club, Amarillo Club and Amarillo Country Club, Mr. Chisholm enjoyed many memories with his lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ann; two children, Susan Hope and husband, Tom, and Robert Coleman, all of Denver; a daughter-in-law, Marti Coleman; a sister, Helen Halstead; a brother, Earl Chisholm; four grandchildren, John David Hope, Jennifer Hope Bennett and husband, Kyle, Sydney Coleman and Alex Coleman; two great-grandchildren, Payton Bennett and Claudia Bennett; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Miller was a longtime resident of Amarillo, and most recently worked for H Bar H Turf farm. He had served in the Army during Vietnam. He was loved and will be missed by all of his friends. Ms. Benson was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Turle. She died Thursday in Amarillo, where she had lived for almost 50 years. Jim Smith, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Phillips was fondly known to her family and friends as a faithful wife, loving mother, school teacher, published poet, postmaster, community servant and devoted Christian. As if that weren't enough, everyone enjoyed her multiple culinary delights. Born July 22, 1911, in Starkville, Colo., Hazel went to be with the Lord on Jan. 21 after a fall at 9112 years of life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Cyrus Herman Cozart Sr.; her second husband, Edward Johnson Phillips; and a son, Curtis Wayne Cozart. Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Hamlin of Seattle and Sharon Nathans of Houston; two sons, Hugh Cozart of Alamosa, Colo., and Cy Cozart Jr. of Dallas; three daughters-in-law; two sons-in-law; 19 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Brown, 84, of Amarillo died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, in Glen Rose. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Shamrock with the Rev. Jeff Messer of Amarillo and the Rev. Don Conner of Shamrock officiating. Burial will be in Shamrock Cemetery by Wright Funeral Directors of Shamrock. Mrs. Brown was born to George D. and Lurlie Tarvin Davis on March 28, 1918, in Perryville, Ark. She moved with her family, at age 10, to Mobeetie, and a short time later moved to Shamrock. She married Beauford W. Brown on May 4, 1934, in Sayre, Okla. They owned and operated a farm east of Shamrock for many years. Mrs. Brown had worked for several years as a dispatcher in Shamrock and in retail sales. She was a member of Shamrock Eastern Star. She moved to Amarillo in 1974, where she also worked in retail sales, was a member of Southlawn Baptist Church, and a former member of Amarillo Senior Citizens. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of several bridge clubs until her eyesight began to fail. Mrs. Brown loved gardening, especially working with flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 18, 1974. Survivors include two daughters, Hazel Offield of Amarillo and Linda Hughes of Glen Rose; three grandchildren, Jan Beard of Amarillo, Mike Hughes of Burleson and Alan Hughes of Waverly; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, George W. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Morrow as born in Clarendon on Jan. 10, 1921. She lived most of her married life in Amarillo. At the time of her death, she was living with her daughter in Hendersonville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Morrow in 1961; and a grandson, Kevin Morrow. Survivors include a daughter, Judy McRae of Hendersonville; a son, Bobby Wayne Morrow of Atlanta; three sisters, Ellen Brown of Amarillo, Louise Mott of Bowie, Md., and Francis Browning of Jacksonville, Ark.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was born July 28, 1918, in Rayville, La., one of 12 children. She married Ted Delaney in 1937. She later married Ezra Brown on May 2, 1953. Mrs. Brown was a waitress, a bookkeeper and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband in 1944; and her second husband on Jan. 26, 1988. Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Kettler and husband, Carl, of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Ginger McCarthy, Karla Smith and Bryan Kettler; four great-grandsons, Emett Ray Hall, Tanner Terbush, David Kettler and R.J. Survivors include her husband, Martin; two sons, Alonzo Hernandez and Danny Hernandez, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Rosalva Castaneda of Amarillo; her parents, Anastacio and Eva Gonzales Navarrete of Hobbs; her mother, Evan Gonzales Lopez of Hobbs; two brothers, Benjamine Navarrete and Armando Navarrete, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Socorro Ruiz and Sonia Franco, both of Hobbs, and Paullina Quintana of Amarillo; and three grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Jan. 24, 2003 Glenn Chester Butler CLAUDE - Glenn Chester Butler, 88, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Davenport of Tulia officiating. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mr. Butler was born May 25, 1914, in Weatherford and had been a Claude resident much of his life. He was a farmer and rancher prior to his retirement. He married Allie Mae Cope on July 4, 1936. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and a member of the church choir. He was an honorary member of FFA, had been a 4-H Leader, and served as a soil conservation service director for 25 years. He also was a past president and former director of the Farm Bureau, and was instrumental in helping get Mid Plains Telephone for rural residents. He was preceded in death by his wife April 20, 2002; and a granddaughter, Shana Delin Butler on Jan. 31, 1974. Survivors include a son, Chester Butler and wife, Shirley, of Claude; two grandchildren, Kyle Butler of Amarillo, and Shelly Allen and husband, Pat, of Canyon; and two great-grandchildren, Tiffany Allen and Tyler Allen, both of Canyon. Mr. German was born Oct. 25, 1946, in Sallisaw, Okla. He was a Dumas resident since 1950. He married Ruth Ann Laub on Aug. 16, 1969, in Dumas. He worked at Dumas Butane for 23 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Presley German, in 1983. Survivors include his wife; a son, Billy Paul German of Amarillo; a daughter, Michele Dawn German of Dumas; and three brothers, George German of Amarillo, Jerry German of Sallisaw and Donald German of Dallas. Mrs. Bryant married Charles. F. Bryant on Aug. 2, 1960. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Christian Church. She was an active member of Frontier Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, William of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter, Dawn Willis of Bayfield; a son, Peter Willis of Amarillo; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
