Kendall, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Parkside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Shultz, the Rev. Terry Cosby and the Rev. Doris Huckert officiating. Burial will be in West Park Cemetery. Mr. Kendall was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Deaf Smith County, the son of John and Bertha Kendall. He married Mamie Craig on June 21, 1949, in Hereford. Mr. Kendall served with the Army in the 82nd Combat Engineer Division. Mr. Kendall attended West Texas State University and then the University of Texas at Austin majoring in architectural engineering. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Hereford for more than 40 years. He started and had been active in the jail ministry in Hereford for more than 20 years. He was a master carpenter and loved woodworking. He helped build and design the POW water tower at the internment camp in Hereford and was a member of First Baptist Church in Hereford. Mr. Kendall was also a retired cattleman. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Kendall and Bill Kendall; and a sister, Clydene Decker. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Vickie Barnes of Hereford and Donna Sheppard and husband, Dr. Rick Sheppard, of Booker; a grandson, Ben Sheppard of Booker; and a granddaughter, Amy Barnes of Hereford. He retired in 1995 after working for Boxwell Brothers in Perryton for 40 years as a funeral director and embalmer. He married Nancy Escoe on July 10, 1951, in Las Cruces, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Lamb and Regina Conley Lamb; and a sister, Betty Wilson. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 2, 2003 Mildred Ballard Porter Powers WAYSIDE - Mildred Ballard Porter Powers, 95, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, in Amarillo. Mrs. Powers was born Dec. 14, 1907, in Killeen, the third daughter of A.J.M. Ballard and Rebecca Forman Ballard. She married Fred H. Porter on Oct. 5, 1927, who served as a Baptist minister in Texas, Missouri and California from 1936 to 1977, and died in 1979. She married A.J. Powers in Hereford on July 31, 1981. He died Oct. 31, 1992. She received an MRE degree from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth. In California she taught elementary grades. Survivors include a son, David Porter; a grandson, Ronald of Morena Valley, Calif.; a granddaughter, Karla of Morena Valley; two nieces; several great-nieces and great-nephews and their sons and daughters. He married Willie B. Phenix Anderson on Jan. 15, 1940, in Carmine. Arrangements are by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mr. Campbell was born Nov. 5, 1931, in Pampa. He was a lifelong resident of Pampa, graduating from Pampa High School in 1950. He served as a cadet colonel at Oklahoma A&M College, where he received a BS degree in agricultural economics with honors in 1955. He married Anne Moseley on July 22, 1951, in Pampa. He was heavily involved in ranching, oil and gas, investments and banking. He was a former co-owner and stockholder with First National Bank in Wheeler, Citizens Bank & Trust in Pampa, First State Bank of Miami and First State Bank of Canadian. Mr. Campbell was very active in the Republican Party, was former 18th Congressional District Chairman, and was Republican District Committeeman of the 31st Senatorial District. He was closely involved in campaigns for Jack Seale, Barry Goldwater, Bob Price, Ronald Reagan, Paul Eggers, Bill Clements, John Tower, John Connally, George Bush, Phil Gramm and Mac Thornberry. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1968 and one of two special ambassadors to Mauritania in 1976. Both of his parents, W.R. "Bob" Campbell and Jenkie Collins Campbell, were members of early pioneering Panhandle families. He was a veteran of the Air Force, serving during the Korean conflict. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, William David Campbell in 1974. Mr. Wheeler was born July 10, 1918, in Paris, the son of Edgel and Myrtle Wheeler. He married Virginia Mosely on Oct. 19, 1944, in Hereford, and they lived there for more than 71 years. He was a Realtor in Hereford for more than 30 years. Mr. Wheeler served in the Marines during World War II, and belonged to the Golden K Kiwanis of the Hereford Senior Citizens. He loved to hunt, fish, golf, play cards and work in his yard. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hereford. He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter; a brother; and a granddaughter. Mr. Abernathy was born March 13, 1943, in Oklahoma City, and was a Stockton resident for 38 years. He retired from Painters Union Local 1115 after working for 20 years. They then moved to Borger and in 1996, moved to Park Place Towers in Amarillo. He graduated from Plainview High School. He received a bachelor's degree from West Texas State College in 1936, after which he taught high school science in O'Donnell and Borger. In 1939, he joined Phillips Petroleum, where he spent 35 years as a chemist. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and from 1937 until his death, was a member of Isom Masonic Lodge 1242 in Borger. He was also a Knight Templar, Shriner and member of Khiva Temple in Amarillo for more than 59 years until his death. He was an active member of the Methodist church, most recently Polk Street United Methodist Church. He was a life member of WT Phoenix Club. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Barnett Hickox; a son, William H. He loved America and Mexico and enjoyed traveling between them. He was very proud of becoming a U.S. citizen. He was preceded in death by his adopted nephew, George Martinez; a sister; four brothers; and two great-granddaughters. Bell St. Mr. Cagle was born July 16, 1910, in Konawa, Seminole County, Indian Territory, Okla. He made his glorious transition from this life to his Heavenly home after a long, productive and happy life. His journey was wonderful and he was met by his Heavenly Father, His Son, Jesus, and a host of family to join him. Mr. Cagle was a lifelong resident of the Texas Panhandle, where he farmed, did custom wheat cutting, residential construction, G.I. building inspection and code enforcement for the city of Amarillo. He was deacon emeritus at Temple Baptist Church where he served as an active deacon for many years. His greatest joy was realized in his service to his Lord and fellow man. He and his wife, Obrietta, were married for 67 years. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Daryl Cagle and wife, Gay Lyn, of Canyon, and Anson Cagle and wife, Sue, of Amarillo; one sister, Ora Mae Milton of Amarillo; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Boss EDMOND, Okla. - Robert L. Boss, D.V.M., 73, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Edmond. Arrangements are by Baggerly Funeral Home. Dr. Boss was born to Clarence and Cora Boss on May 17, 1929, in Okmulgee, Okla. He went to school in Okmulgee and Tahlequah and moved to Pawnee, Okla., where he graduated from Pawnee High School in 1947. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University and graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1951. He worked for Coldwater Cattle Co. in Amarillo, Texas, as assistant ranch manager until 1957, serving in the U.S. Army Veterinary Service at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., from 1952 to 1954. He was on the Army Rifle Team and won many medals in shooting competitions. In 1957, he returned to Oklahoma A&M College to study veterinary medicine, graduating from the now Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1961. While there, he met Ruth Bowen of Coffeyville, Kan., and they were married on May 28, 1960. They have two children, Robert of Portland, Ore., and Anita who lives in Arlington, Va., with her husband, Darren Wolpert. Dr. Boss returned to Amarillo to begin a large animal practice upon graduation. He practiced there for 14 years and then moved to Edmond to establish an equine surgical practice. He designed and developed Equine Medical Associates on Interstate 35, east of Edmond, in 1979. It was the only facility in the area doing orthopedic and arthroscopic surgery on horses. After he sold his interest in the hospital partnership in 1984, he did surgical referrals for a number of years. For several years, he inspected thoroughbred horses for the Heritage Place Elite Sale and was able to utilize his great love of flying to travel across the country to evaluate the horses. Dr. Boss was always committed to giving back to his profession through organized veterinary medicine. He joined the American Association of Equine Practitioners in 1962 and remained an active, devoted member. He served on several committees and the board of directors and became its president in 1982. While living in Texas, he was a director of the Texas Veterinary Medical Association and a charter member of the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practitioners. After moving to Oklahoma, he founded and was president of Oklahoma Academy of Veterinary Practitioners. He held licenses to practice in Oklahoma, Texas, Kentucky and Kansas. He also has served as the Oklahoma chairman for the Morris Animal Foundation. In 1988, he became a trustee for the American Veterinary Medical Association Professional Liability Insurance Trust. He took a personal interest and felt a deep responsibility to safeguard the reputation and practices of the veterinarians in the program. A faithful Christian since childhood, he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and director at First Baptist Church of Amarillo. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Edmond. Survivors include his wife and children; one sister, Hazle Boss Neet of Pontotoc, Miss.; a sister-in-law, Lois Boss of Pawnee, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 2, 2003 New Mexico Alice Donna Lindsey Nelson TUCUMCARI, N.M. - Alice Donna Lindsey Nelson, 90, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dunn Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Tucumcari Memorial Park. Mrs. Nelson was a native and lifelong resident of New Mexico. She chose Tucumcari as her residence for the past 53 years. She lived by herself since 1989, when Bailey, her husband of 54 years, preceded her in death. She was born to truly pioneer parents, seven months after New Mexico became a state in 1912. She met Bailey Nelson in Las Vegas when she was in college, and they were married in 1935. She taught school in many locations in the state for more than 37 years. She loved the teaching profession and especially the children whom she helped. She enjoyed seeing the fruit of her labor show in the generations of her students. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church of Tucumcari, Delta Kappa Gamma, Bay View Club and Retired Teachers Association. She wrote and self-published the family and New Mexico history book, "We Rode the Western Winds of New Mexico," in 1999 at the tender age of 87. This she accomplished after having lost her sight to macular degeneration. Hundreds of friends and family have enjoyed reading her book. Alice's family was foremost in her life, and her greatest achievement was her ability to show love and kindness and to keep the large extended family connected. She was preceded in death by her parents, Larkin and Gertrude Lindsey; her husband; twin babies, Cahil and Catherine; her grandsons, Bailey Nelson and Patrick Nelson; four brothers, Coy Lindsey, Curry Lindsey, Henry Lindsey and Ernest Lindsey; and two nephews, Charles Lindsey and David Lindsey. Survivors include two daughters, June Milligan of South Korea and June's daughter, Debbie Michelfelder and husband, Carl, of Phoenix; and Jeanie Jones and husband, Barton, of Tucumcari and their son Gregory, and his sons, Hunter, Austin and Landry of Marble Falls; a son, Bailey Nelson and his daughter, Coleen Nelson-Schafer and husband, Cameron, and their children, David Nelson, Zachary, Abigail and Michael Schafer; a sister, Velma McDaniel of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; three sisters-in-law, Carrie Lindsey of Forrest, Florence Lindsey of Aztec and Maxine Lindsey of Albuquerque; her nephews, Scott McDaniel, Lynn Lindsey, Coy Lindsey, Glen Allen Lindsey, Don Lindsey, Kevin Lindsey, Keith Lindsey, Wayne Lindsey, Doyle Nelson, Leonard Nelson and Gary Nelson and their wives; her nieces, LaNell Leatherwood, Connie Lindsey, Patsy Bailey, Lois Crozier, Loretta Smith, Camilla Hudson, Sue Ann Langford and Barbara Arguellas and their husbands. Pallbearers will be Scott McDaniel, Gregory Jones, Albert Segura, Keith Lindsey, Don Lindsey, Glen Allen Lindsey, Lynn Lindsey and Coy Lindsey. Honorary pallbearers are John Faith, Fermin Apadoca, Delmar Bell, Jack Huntley, R.H. Hale, Jimmy Watson and Steven Burns.
