Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church of Dimmitt with Dr. Max L. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Castro Memorial Gardens in Dimmitt by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Youts was born in Erath County. She moved to Dimmitt in 1929. Mrs. Youts married Elmer Youts on May 28, 1929, in Earlsboro, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1985. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dimmitt where she sang in the choir for 60 years and was the treasurer for the Women's Missionary Union at the church for 50 years. She moved from Dimmitt to Amarillo in 1996 to Ware Memorial Care Center. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Jackson and husband, Al, of Dimmitt and Pat Sligh and husband, A.P. "Slick," of Monahans; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. The body will be available for viewing today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m at the church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Llano Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum under the direction of N.S. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors. Mrs. Miller was born in Indian Territory, Okla., near Tishmingo, Okla., on Jan. 29, 1903, to Charles Monroe Southard and Annie Estelle McGilvary. She married Ralph H. Miller Sr. in 1925 in Amarillo. He preceded her in death in 1979. She worked as a bookkeeper for Whittenburg Estates and was also a homemaker. She moved to Levelland in 1997. She was a member of San Jacinto Methodist Church in Amarillo. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two sons, Ralph H. Miller Jr. of Galveston, and Charles W. Miller of Levelland; one sister, Jewelle Robinson of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road, with Dr. Dana Moore, senior pastor at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery under the direction of Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors. Mr. Steele was a 20-year veteran of the Navy, retired chief petty officer. He worked for the Atomic Energy Commission, later for Mason and Hanger at Medina Base, San Antonio and Pantex in Amarillo. After retirement he worked as a contract mail carrier. He was a 45-year member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia, in November 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Diana Warren of Amarillo; a son, Tommy R. Steele of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Mike Bonnett of Canyon Lake and Lewis Earp of Liberty, Mo.; a sister, Kathleen Yarrington of Lanigan, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 18, 2003 James W. "Dean" Holman James W. "Dean" Holman, 81, of Amarillo died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Holman was born and raised in Amarillo. He joined the Navy in 1942 and was discharged in 1945. He married Veda Geisler on Feb. 26, 1949. He was the founder of Troop 86 at St. Paul United Methodist Church and was Scoutmaster for more than 30 years. He worked for Quality Sheet Metal and Contractors for more than 25 years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union Local No. 196 and a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Janie H. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Morrison Funeral Directors. She was born April 11, 1907, in Indian Territory, Okla. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Church of Christ. She married Willie Otto Mutschler on Nov. 8, 1924, in Sweetwater, Okla. He preceded her in death in 1979. She moved by covered wagon at age 14 to Western Oklahoma near Elk City, where she lived before moving to Sunray. She was a Sunray resident since 1955. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Cora Lee Mutschler in 1927; and three sons-in-law, Leroy, Wayne and H.C. Survivors include six children, Juanita Wingo of Sunray, Carl Mutschler and wife, Joyce, of Sunray, Laquita Ely of Cheyenne, Okla., Mae Clark and husband, Albert, of Amarillo, Darrel Mutschler and wife, Barbara, of Muleshoe and Glenys Teter of Riesel; 17 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. Pendergrass, 71, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Christian Church with the Rev. Mary Lou Dillon, of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Lemons Funeral Home. Mr. Pendergrass was born June 23, 1931, in Highsplant, Ky. He married Anna Masterson on April 19, 1953, in Carlsbad, N.M. Mr. Pendergrass was raised in Kentucky. He served in the Air Force. He moved to Plainview in 1949 and was a pilot. Mr. Pendergrass opened Hi Plains Fertilizer in 1962 where he was owner/operator. He retired from his fertilizer business and farming in 1997. He was a member of First Christian Church and the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by one son, seven brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jana Dawn Lemons of Claude; two sons, Jimmy Dean Pendergrass of Lubbock and Glen Ray Pendergrass of Plainview; a sister, Margie Causey of Warren, Mich.; an aunt, Robbie Simpson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nephews and nieces. She had been a resident of Pampa from 1934 until moving to Littleton, Colo., in 1993. She joined Calvary Baptist Church in 1935 where she taught Sunday school and was an active member of the Women's Society. Mrs. Whelchel was born in Clarendon and had resided in Claude for more than 75 years. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. Her husband, James Paul Whelchel and three sons, Donnie Lee Whelchel, Jimmie Ray Whelchel and Robert Paul Whelchel, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Lorene Foster of Happy and Lou Heniche of New Iberia, La., one son, James Roy Whelchel of Claude; one brother, J.E. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 18, 2003 Oklahoma Melvin Eugene Campbell GUYMON, Okla. - Melvin Eugene Campbell, 78, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003. Memorial services and burial of cremains will be at 2 p.m. March 15 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson. Mr. Campbell was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Gray, Okla. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. Survivors include his wife, Joy; two sons, Rod Campbell of Gresham, Ore., and Don Campbell of Guymon; two sisters, Los Reed of Horse Show Bend, and Joey Christine Pleasant of Tulsa; three brothers, David Campbell of Gulf Port, Miss., Luke Campbell of Oologah, and Robert Campbell of Tulsa; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 18, 2003 New Mexico Celia "Sally" Griego CLOVIS, N.M. - Celia "Sally" Griego, 83, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003. Rosary services will be at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Sotero Sena officiating. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mission Garden of Memories. Ms. Griego settled in Clovis in 1945 and married Martin Griego Sept. 30, 1948. She was a Eucharistic minister for Our Lady of Guadalupe and was involved in the Crusillo Movement. Survivors include five daughters, Ramona Reyes, Dolores Armijo, Gloria Olivas, Mollie Griego and Barbara Tafoya, all of Clovis; a son, James Griego of Belen; 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Duncan, Okla., and had been a resident of Lubbock for the past eight years, coming from Amarillo. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War. Samuelson FORT WORTH - Norris D. Samuelson, 66, died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Known to many as Mr. Sam, he enriched the lives of countless Texas school children through music. Mr. Samuelson was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Canyon to Otto Norris Samuelson and Bessie Blanton Samuelson. He was raised in Canyon, attended West Texas State University and received a masters of music education from Vandercook School of Music. Mr. Sam taught throughout the Texas Panhandle before settling in the north Central Texas area. He was director of bands at Everman, Alvarado and Kennedale. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Gretchen Donovan Samuelson; sons, Norris D. Samuelson Jr. and wife, Alana, of Benton, Ark., and Eric Samuelson and wife, Dana, of Austin; grandchildren, Drew, Thad and David Samuelson; sister, Anna Lou Ashby of New York, N.Y.; brother, Bobby Samuelson and wife, Cindy, of Phoenix, Ariz.; nephews, Jason Samuelson and Greg Geisler; and niece, Chelsea Samuelson.
