Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Haddock and the Rev. Brad Foster, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Alberty was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Webb City, Okla. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He married Frances J. Luttrull on March 19, 1947, in Hugoton, Kan. He was an operator in the oil and gas industry and had served in the Army. He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Lee Alberty; a daughter, Jacqueline L. Larner; his parents; five brothers; and a sister. Survivors include his wife; a son, Allen "Pete" Alberty and wife, Rhodora, of Amarillo; four sisters, Lucille Hutchinson of Placerville, Calif., Leetta Bay of Newkirk, Okla., Doris Hill of Guymon, Okla., and Credia Givens of Blackwell, Okla.; four grandchildren, Jack Miller of Dallas; Joseph Miller of Newkirk, Wendy Allred of Wildorado and Misty Hammer of Amarillo; five stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Avila SPEARMAN - Paula S. Avila, 65, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church with the Rev. Guillermo Morales officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Avila was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Women's Guild. Survivors include her husband, Joe; five sons, Rudy Avila of Littleton, Colo., Roy Avila of Amarillo, Joey Avila of Soda Springs, Idaho, Alfred Avila and Albert Avila, both of Spearman; a daughter, Lydia Franco of Odessa; three brothers, Al Sena of Crane, Valente Sena of Campwood and Buddy Sena of Marble Falls; a sister, Alicia Sena of Midland; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Lacomb Sr. James O. Lacomb Sr., 61, of Amarillo died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with the Rev. Robert Field, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mr. Lacomb was a former Amarillo resident. He was a retired house painter and had worked as a maintenance person for apartments. He married Martha Jane Smith. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1992 in Amarillo; his father, Jimmy Lee Lacomb; two brothers, Jimmy Ray Lacomb and Buddy Lacomb; and two sisters, Ellen Francis Eagle and Becky Lou Cameron. Survivors include four daughters, Dorothy Lacomb and Lisa Lucero, both of Amarillo, Janet Grumbles of Darrouzett and Judy Cornett of Follette; three sons, James Lacomb Jr. and Jeff Lacomb, both of Amarillo, and Christopher Lacomb of Houston; his mother, Beatrice Lacomb of Hereford; two sisters, Phyllis Chapman of Canyon and Mamie Thaxton of Hereford; a brother, William Lacomb of Hereford; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Alan Burkhalter, of Chaparral Hills Baptist Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Llano Cemetery Mausoleum by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Gardner was born Dec. 24, 1927, in Walnut Springs. He married Frankie Derryberry in 1951 in Clovis, N.M. She died in 1997. He married Marie Moore in March 1999. He worked for the Santa Fe Railway for 42 years. At the time of his retirement he held the position of regional agent. He was an avid traveler and spent much of his retirement on South Padre Island. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kay Robertson of Austin; a son, Mike Gardner and wife, Kelley, of Georgetown; a stepdaughter, Lynette Noland of Loveland, Colo.; two brothers, T.C. Gardner of Amarillo and Bill Gardner of Joshua; a sister, Mary Alice Spoolstra of Tinley Park, Ill.; three grandchildren, Chris and Kori Gardner of Georgetown and Lori Robertson of Austin; two stepgrandchildren, Nathan Noland of Panhandle and Tiffany Noland of Amarillo; and a great-grandchild, Christopher Noland of Panhandle. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 24, 2003 Lester "Pappy" Tomlin Sr. Lester "Pappy" Tomlin Sr., 83, of Amarillo died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home, Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Jerry Coffman, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Tomlin was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Lecompte, La., to Lester and Minnie Greene Tomlin. He married Mary Belle Splawn in 1945 in Amarillo. He was a bartender at several establishments in Amarillo. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1989; a daughter, Caroline Sue Tomlin, in 1999; and two sons, John David Tomlin and Lester Sterling Tomlin Jr., in 2002. Survivors include two sons, Bob Tomlin of Amarillo and Charles Parker of Virginia; four daughters, Gladys Maiwald and Mary Raff, both of Amarillo, Barbara Gibson and Cindy Dorsey, both of Stanardsville, Va.; 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a very special daughter-in-law, Nancy Tomlin. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 24, 2003 B.D. "Speck" England B.D. "Speck" England, 81, of Amarillo died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003. Private family services are scheduled. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mr. England was born in Turkey on Jan. 29, 1922. He served in the Army as a medic in World War II. He was assigned to a front-line aid station in France. Afterward he returned to his hometown and resumed working for the Gizer Ranch, now Caprock State Park. He was there as a working cowboy for a total of 12 years before and after his stay in the Army. In 1948 he married Joann Hulsey and moved to Amarillo where he worked for Asarco through 1955 when he went to work for the Phillips Plant near Dumas. His passion was always horses and on returning to Amarillo he spent the next 40 years breaking and training ranch and cutting horses. To this day it would be hard to see any good working horse in North Texas that Mr. England didn't have something to do with through its blood line. Honoring his wishes, his sons and grandsons will be taking him home. The family asks that those wishing to pay respects to Mr. England do so by remembering him in prayer and good wishes. Survivors include three sons, Ron England and Dory England, both of Amarillo, and Danny England of Skellytown; a sister, Drucilla of Plainview; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and 38 nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, Feb. 24, 2003 Charlie Ray Barker Charlie Ray Barker, 73, of Amarillo died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle. Burial was in Shamrock Cemetery. Mr. Barker was a veteran of the Army serving in the Pacific Theater. Survivors include his family and friends.
