"Bud" Riherd, 82, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Clifford Dane, minister to senior adults at the church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home. Mr. Riherd was born Sept. 22, 1920, in Rotan to Otis P. and Hattie E. Andress Riherd. He was raised in Pennington and Greenville, N.M. A decorated veteran of World War II, he served as a motorcyclist in European-African theatres. After his discharge he moved to Dalhart. In December of 1971 he married Madge Helen Brown in Clayton, N.M. He had worked as general foreman of Gooch Feed Mills, mill manager for Coronado Feeders and yard foreman for Nortex Feedlot. He was preceded in death by a son, David Riherd; his parents; and a granddaughter, Amanda Bagley. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Judy Bagley of Collinsville, Okla.; two sisters, Velma Eddleman of Denver and Mary Jane Richter of Denton; granddaughters, Shona Bagley of Amarillo and Leona Adrian of Owasso, Okla.; grandsons, John Riherd of Little Elm and Robert Riherd of Lubbock; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, March 2, 2003 Karl Gustin DALHART - Karl Gustin, 51, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003. Mr. Gustin was born Dec. 13, 1951, in Dalhart to Cleveland and Patricia Pinner Gustin. He was raised in Dalhart and graduated from Dalhart High School in 1970. He was owner and operator of Gustin Welding and was an avid outdoorsman. He founded and helped build the Dalhart Bow Hunter's Club. He was an expert bowman and holder of the world archery championship for his class. He designed and built the Welcome to Dalhart sign that spans Denrock Street at the entrance to the downtown area. He was a member of the Dalhart Elks Lodge and First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Renee; daughters, Sammi Kaye Bowers and Kayla Whiteside, both of South Padre Island, Ruschelle Hatton of Fredericktown, Ohio, and Nikki Truelove of Livingston; sons, Jeff Gustin of Amarillo and Coby Whiteside of Hobbs, N.M.; his mother, Patricia Ann Gustin of Dalhart; brothers, Jim Frazier and Sam Gustin, both of Dalhart, and Cleve Gustin of Canyon; two sisters, Carol Davis of Lubbock and Nancy Gustin Franklin of Dalhart; and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. Mr. Gray was born Dec. 14, 1924, to Fred and Ruthie Gray. He was a retired former Donley County judge and was an Air Force veteran. Burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon. Mrs. Hood was born Oct. 13, 1916, in Mesquite to Talmage and Jesse Venner Smith. She married Robert Lee Hood on June 17, 1940, in Bryson. She was a school teacher and librarian for Fort Worth ISD and a member of Acton United Methodist Church and sang with Granbury Melody Bells. Survivors include her children, Tom Hood and wife, Connie, of Granbury and Judy Cook and husband, Tony, of Eminence, Mo.; sisters, Talmage Hawthorne of Acton and Mildred Hickman of Dickenson; grandchildren, Tamra and Adam Hood and Judd and Cody Cook; and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Janssen was born April 11, 1937, in Albuquerque, N.M., to W.P. Janssen and Olive Gerkin. He attended high school in Santa Fe, N.M. He was a veteran of the Army and after returning home from the Army he farmed around Canyon and Umbarger for many years. He moved to Florida, then to Georgia around 1982. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Janssen, in 2000; and a son, Pat Janssen, in 1986. Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Janssen of Amarillo; two sons, Bobby Janssen of Vega and Chuck Janssen of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Hersley of Oregon; seven grandchildren, Jason, Brad, Kyla, James, Brittney, Jennifer and Christopher Janssen; and a great-grandson, Austin Janssen. Amarillo Globe-News, March 2, 2003 Elsewhere Robert Edward Gorman SAN ANTONIO - Robert Edward Gorman, 81, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003. Services will be at noon Tuesday in Port Loring Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Johnny White officiating. Burial will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A reception will be at 2:30 p.m. in The Towers following the interment. Mr. Gorman was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Temple to Henry and Frankie Gorman. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1942 and served in the Pacific Theatre during 1943 and 1944. He was married to Dorothy Marie Godsey of Tahoka in 1943. He participated in action on Abimama Atoll, in the Gilbert Islands Nov. 21-25, 1943, on the Majuro Atoll, in the Marshall Islands between Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, 1944, and on the Eniwetok Atoll in the Marshall Islands Feb. 17-22, 1944. He was wounded in action at Parry Island on Feb. 22, 1944, for which he received the Purple Heart. His wounds were severe, resulting in permanent physical challenges which he overcame daily through the exercise of his indomitable spirit. He was honorably discharged Oct. 11, 1944, after many months of hospitalization. After returning home to Amarillo, he and his brother, William Gorman, went into the weatherstripping and caulking business and began successful careers as owners of E-Z Tight Inc. His wife, Marie, passed away in 1962. He later married Ruby Floyd Nicholson of Amarillo on May 4, 1974. After retiring from business he and his wife moved to a ranch in Junction and later to San Antonio. He is remembered for loving the Lord and his family, for serving his country with pride and for teaching his family to never give up doing their best. He was preceded in death by a brother, William Gorman. Survivors include his wife, Ruby; his children, Robert Gorman Jr., William Gorman, Michael Nicholson, Betty Gorman Moilan and Gail Jenkins; his siblings, Katy Polkinghorn, Harry Gorman and Dorothy Campbell; his grandchildren, Chrissie, Tate and Ashleigh Gorman, Drew, Blake and Holly Moilan and John Mark Jenkins; and his loving caregivers, Isabel and Richard Ybarra. Mrs. Hopson was a member of Magna Carta, the Amarillo Doll Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and the Mayflower Society. She was an English major, graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1951. She was a proud and loving wife and mother. She had many interests and was very creative. She played the piano beautifully and was an avid doll collector with a vast knowledge of antique dolls. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jerry; four children; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Northwest Hills United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Austin Memorial Park by Cook-Walden Funeral Home of Austin. Mrs. Fullingim, the daughter of Hal and Mattie Price, was born and grew up in Childress. She later attended Texas Tech University. A longtime Austin resident, she retired from the Texas Education Agency in 1988 and recently relocated to Wichita. Survivors include a daughter, Becky L. Burt of Wichita; sisters, Jeanne Blair of Austin and Nancy Myers of Amarillo; granddaughters, Cameron M. Burt of Lubbock and Martha S. Mrs. Hines was born in Eliasbille and had lived in Amarillo for more than 26 years. She was a nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital. She married W.C. Hines on June 20, 1940, in Longview. She was preceded in death by her husband Feb. 7, 1982. Amarillo Globe-News, March 2, 2003 Donald R. Kahn Donald R. Kahn, 74, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charles Meyer, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Kahn was born in Chicago on March 26, 1928. He received his bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois in 1949. After graduation he was employed with Mason and Hanger-Silas Mason Co. Inc. at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Burlington, Iowa. With this company he transferred to Grand Island, Neb., Cornhusker Ordnance Plant. In 1954 he transferred to Las Vegas and worked at the Atomic Test Site during Operation Tea Pot. In 1956 he worked for the Crockett Co. He built the pier foundations and sub-structure of the Carquinez Straits Bridge. Returning to Burlington in 1956 he was the assistant process engineer-departmental engineer, Mason and Hanger-Silas Mason Co. In 1964 he resigned from Mason and Hanger and served as Burlington's city engineer for four years. He founded Kahn Engineering Consulting Services Inc. in 1968. In 1983 he moved to Bay St. Louis, Miss., accepting a position with Mason Chamberlain Inc., Mississippi Army Ammunition Plant at the Stennis Space Center. In 1991 he transferred to Pantex retiring from Pantex in 1994. He retired from the Army reserves as a colonel in 1978 after 30 years of service. Some of his assignments included the 495th Engineer Combat Battalion Commander; 372nd Engineer Group Commander and 416th Engineer Group Commander; and General Staff Chief of Facilities Engineering. He was president of the Burlington Rotary Club and served as district governor, Rotary International District 600. He was presented with the Paul Harris Fellowship. He was active in Boy Scouts of America for 43 years receiving the Silver Beaver award. He was founder of the Burlington Law Rent Housing Agency and chairman for 17 years. He met his wife, JoAnn M. Heyde, in Grand Island, Neb., and they were married for 51 plus years. He was a BSA volunteer in the gift shop and medical records. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Martin D. Kahn and wife, Veronica, and Robert A. Kahn, all of Amarillo, and Michael R. Kahn of West Burlington, Iowa; a daughter, Regina M. Kahn of Amarillo; and two grandsons, Adam C. Kahn and Samuel R. Georgia St. Mrs. Kral was a longtime resident of Amarillo. She was retired from Northwest Texas Hospital as a switchboard operator. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward E. Kral. Survivors include two sons, Colonel Thomas E. Kral of San Antonio and Bill Kral of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Marvin James, minister of Family Life at First Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mrs. Stockton was born in Fayette, Mo., on Feb. 9, 1906, and moved to Amarillo with her parents, Mattie and W.G. Street, in 1907. She was a graduate of Amarillo High School. She became a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church in 1918 and was a secretary for the church in 1928 and was active in the children's ministries. She was an associate member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. She was secretary/treasurer/bookkeeper for Stockton Construction and Lake Stockton which later became Lake Tanglewood. She was a resident there for 35 years. She married S.G. (Roy) Stockton in 1926. They had four children. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; a son, Richard Stockton; and a daughter, Barbara Schroeder. Survivors include a son, Sherman E. Stockton and wife, Jean, of Amarillo; a daughter, Jenny Maschino and husband, Mike, of Shreveport, La.; a daughter-in-law, Sue Stockton of Amarillo; a son-in-law, Fred Schroeder of Denver; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
