Mr. Alexander worked as a custodian for Clovis Public Schools. He married Jerldine Powell on April 28, 1947. Mr. Wright was born March 6, 1913, in Clarendon and was a lifetime Clarendon resident. He was a farmer and a windmill repairman most of his life before his retirement. He married Carman Camilla Jones on June 5, 1954, in Clarendon. He was a Presbyterian. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Guy Wright, Thompson Wright and Norwood Wright; and five sisters, Gladys Servis, Dorothy Leggett, Isabell Thornberry, Lucille Hodel and Fannie Daugherty. Amarillo Globe-News, March 14, 2003 Oma Gibbs Peters WELLINGTON - Oma Gibbs Peters, 96, formerly of Wellington died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Wellington with Aubrey Pitts of Temple and the Rev. James Ikner, pastor of Church of the Nazarene in Wellington, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Peters was born June 26, 1906, in Wellington to John Gibbs and Minnie Bachelor Gibbs. At the age of 17, she married Dabney Peters in Wellington on April 27, 1924. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Oma was always a homemaker and a devout Christian, who set loving examples for her children and their children. They will always remember her "Hello," "Hi" and beautiful smile. She was a member of Polk Street Methodist Church, although homebound most of the time, she loved to watch Sunday services of Polk Street on TV. She moved to Amarillo from Lubbock where they had lived 40 years. She remembered the times when her family would travel through Amarillo in covered wagons and stay overnight downtown at the wagon yard. As a child she grew up in Texas and New Mexico. The family would like to send a special thanks to BSA Hospice and Hazel Rich at I.H.S. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; six brothers; and a sister. Griggs and Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mrs. Hildreth was born in Floyd, N.M., and raised in Olney. She graduated from North Texas University in 1937 with a degree in teaching and home economics. She taught for several years before becoming the assistant home demonstration agent in Lubbock in 1949, as well as having a radio program on home economics until 1956. She moved to Tulia to become home demonstration agent until 1957, when she moved to Canyon to become home demonstration agent for Randall County until 1961. In 1962, she became the agent in Potter County until her retirement in 1979. She joined Delta Kappa Gamma in 1967 and was chapter president from 1978 to 1980. Survivors include a son, Tom Hildreth and wife, Vicki, of Lafayette, Colo.; four sisters, Lois Lester of Victoria, Jeff Rae Cook of Sterling, Kan., Dorothy Garett of Owensboro, Ky., and Jo Dell King of Norman, Okla.; and two grandsons, Chris Hildreth and Matt Hildreth, both of Boulder, Colo. "Bill" Chandler, 77, of Amarillo and Borger died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in Farmington, N.M. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with Harry Babbitt, pastoral care minister of Paramount Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Chandler attended Chilocco Indian School and Oklahoma City University. After which, he served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operations attached to the North Atlantic wing of the air transport command. Chandler worked for Phillips Petroleum for more than 43 years. He retired in Borger as administrative manager in 1985. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to all the wonderful people at the Bridge for all their loving care. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Chandler; four brothers; four sisters; and his wife, Virginia Ellen Steward. Survivors include a son, J.R. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Sutherland was born in Odell on Jan. 6, 1908. She was the second daughter of Dilmeda Maultamore Towry and Margaret Emma West Towry. In 1942, she graduated from North Texas State University with B.A. and B.S. degrees. She also received a master of education degree from North Texas State University. Mrs. Sutherland married Joe Wheeler Sutherland on April 27, 1946, in Vernon. Mrs. Sutherland began her career as an elementary school teacher in Jackson Springs. She also taught in Wichita Falls, Chillicothe and Amarillo. After retiring from Amarillo Independent School District approximately 30 years ago, she taught at St. Joseph's. Mrs. Sutherland was an active member of Texas State Teachers Association, National Educators Association, American Association of University Women, Parent Teacher Association, Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Delta Kappa, Kappa Kappa Iota, Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, Democratic Women of the Panhandle, Heritage Club and American Association for Retired People. She held numerous offices in many of these organizations. Mrs. Sutherland was also a docent for the Amarillo Museum of Art and a volunteer for First Baptist Church library. Mrs. Sutherland was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001. Survivors include three nieces, Emma B. Baker of Burkburnett, Juanelle McClung and husband, A.W., of Irving and Anita Patton of Wichita Falls; a nephew, Odis Haynes and wife, Mildred, of Brenham; four great-nieces; three great-nephews; and 11 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
