Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in First United Methodist Church in Miami with the Rev. Jerry Moore, pastor of United Methodist Church of Gruver, officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery in Miami by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors. Mrs. Carr was born April 5, 1918, in Gray County. She graduated from Spearman High School and Amarillo Beauty College. She married W.H. "Cy" Carr on Oct. 6, 1940, in Spearman. He preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1984. She later married Ray Caraway in May 1999 in Gruver. He preceded her in death in 2002. She had been a longtime resident of Miami before moving to Pampa in 2001. She was a beautician and a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Miami. She was preceded in death by her mother, Iris Morse White; her father and stepmother, Kiff and Ailene White; two brothers, John Morse White and James White; and three sisters, Cathryn Hall, Virginia Head and Joyce Tremble. Survivors include a son, Gary Carr of Pampa; a sister, Frankie Sloan of Breckenridge; two brothers, Kiffie White of Borger and Tommie White of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Clayton Gospel Church in Clayton, N.M., with Mike Phipps officiating. Burial will be in Texline Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton. The Rev. Ethridge was born March 20, 1942, in Dickens. He had been pastor of Clayton Gospel Church in Clayton since 1980. Survivors include his wife, Carla; two daughters, Debbie Martinez of Amarillo, and Dina Austin of Claude; a son, Jerry Ethridge Waltrip of Midland; six grandchildren; and a brother, Wayland Ethridge of Muleshoe. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with military honors by Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 26. Mr. Guerrero was born Aug. 29, 1942, in Marlin. He graduated from Rule High School in Rule. He attended South Plains Junior College in Levelland. He served in the Army during Vietnam. He moved to Amarillo in 1961. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and a member of Knights of Columbus. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all the wonderful and caring people at Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Harrington Cancer Center. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Guerrero in 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Park Place Towers Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mrs. Primer, former Texas State Director of Public Health and Nursing for nearly 40 years, and recently a resident of Ware Assisted Living Center, died in Amarillo on Thursday. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo. Before serving in her statewide nursing capacity, Mrs. Primer was Potter County's first public health nurse, and during her tenure in the state office of the Health Department, she was the highest ranking female employee in state government. She also served as president of Texas Nurses Association, was a widely quoted author of articles on public health, and after retirement she was asked to write a book on the history of public health nursing in Texas, which was published. In 1998, at the age of 92, Mrs. Primer took the necessary steps to renew/maintain her nursing license. Mrs. Primer was born at Pine Island near Hempstead. Her father, H.P. Garrett was a Baptist minister, and later became pastor of a church in San Jon, N.M. Mrs. Primer graduated from high school in Clovis, N.M. Subsequently she received her nursing degree from Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing in Amarillo and received her baccalaureate degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. Master's work and further advanced studies were done at Vanderbilt and at Columbia University in New York City. During her first year of retirement, which coincided with the founding year of West Texas State University School of Nursing in 1972, Mrs. Primer designed the public health curriculum, taught classes and helped the new school achieve accreditation. At an earlier time she had helped design the baccalaureate program for Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing. During her approximately 50 years living in Austin, Mrs. Primer served as a Red Cross Disaster Relief Volunteer, and on a weekly basis read medical textbooks for the Recording for the Blind organization. She was also active in University Baptist Church and a tireless friend to the international students attending the University of Texas. Mrs. Primer was a lifelong lover of music and a concert quality pianist. She volunteered her skills for vespers services and parties after she became a resident at Park Place Towers in Amarillo in 1990. She was active in American Association of University Women, Altrusa International, American Nurses Association and Texas State Nurses Association, and many other organizations. At the age of 70, the then Mildred Garrett married Dr. Benjamin M. Primer, a distinguished lifelong colleague who had been widowed at an earlier time. After Dr. Primer passed away, Mildred Garrett Primer never remarried. Mrs. Primer was noted for her sense of humor and was loved by family, friends and colleagues alike. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harrison P. Garrett Jr., James Archie Garrett and Reginald E. Garrett; a sister who died in childhood, Dot Garrett; and two nieces, Mildred Louise Owen Beason and Grace Elizabeth Garrett Wilkin. Survivors include two sisters, Lurline Garrett Owen of Portales, N.M., and Nell Garrett Carson of Borger; a sister-in-law, Madge Wilson Garrett; eight nephews, Robert W. Owen, Billy Lynn Owen, James Ray Owen, Jimmie L. Garrett, Wilson H. Garrett, Jack D. Garrett, Lonnie D. "Joe" Garrett and Charles Garrett; three nieces, Mary Nell Garrett Burkham, Ann Carson and Dorothy Nell Garrett Ray; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; other extended family members; and the family of Benjamin M.
