Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Adrian with the Rev. Dee Slocum, interim pastor, and the Rev. Bob Miller, pastor of South Georgia Baptist Church of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega by Boxwell Brothers at Vega. Mr. Guest was born in Happy on Oct. 21, 1918, and graduated from Happy High School. He worked on the Bivins Ranch for 27 years. In latter years, he served as foreman of the ranch. He moved to Oldham County in 1965, where he farmed and ranched until his death. He was a lifetime member of American Quarter Horse Association, where he helped judge for many years. He was also a member of American Cutting Horse Association. Survivors include his wife, Cindy; four daughters, Bobbye Blankenship of Amarillo, Lanelle Madden of Blanchard, Okla., Norma Smallwood of Dalhart and Sharon Hill of Amarillo; two sons, Jerry Guest of Wildorado and Buster Guest of Shamrock; three stepsons, J.W. Carnes of Adrian, D.R. Carnes of Vega and J.R. Carnes of Adrian; three sisters, Alice Neal of Amarillo, Clara Magness of Happy and Mildred Zachry of Hugo, Okla.; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Wheeler was born and raised in Amarillo, and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1939. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, he married Jean Harper. He was an agent for the IRS for 20 years before retiring. He was an honorary member of musicians local union. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1981; and a brother, Robert Wheeler in 2001. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton with the Rev. Greg Kennedy, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Perryton, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Williams was born on a farm in Hale County between Kress and Plainview on Dec. 11, 1919. She was the second child of Quince and Eunice Workman. She lived on the farm in the Houston community most of the time she was growing up. She attended Houston School, Kress schools and graduated from Tulia High School. Martha graduated from school in 10 years, as she covered the fourth and fifth grades in one year and there were only 11 grades then. She went to West Texas Teachers College, now West Texas A&M University, and lived in Randall Hall with her sister, Mary Elizabeth. In college she met Edwin Franklin Williams, and they were married at her parents' farmhouse in Swisher County on Sept. 3, 1939. After their wedding, they returned to Canyon for Eddie's last semester. Martha finished her degree at West Texas during summer sessions. In 1940 they moved to Friona, where Martha taught business education for a year, and fourth grade for two years. They also lived in Dumas from 1943 to 1951 and Dalhart from 1951 to 1955. They moved to Perryton in 1955. While there, Martha commuted to college to get her elementary education certification, and after that taught fourth grade from 1959 until 1979, when she retired. Martha continued to live in Perryton until 1997, when she moved to the Craig Retirement Community, where she lived until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Bill Workman; and a sister Mary Elizabeth Paine. Survivors include two daughters, Jo Bryan and husband, Gary, of Amarillo and Jan Spence and husband, Wayne, of Denton; two sons, Don Williams and wife, Ruth, and Bob Williams and wife, Karen, all of Amarillo; a brother, Ed Workman of Tulia; 10 grandchildren, Stacy Bryan of Hoboken, N.J., Mark Bryan of Denver, Pat Spence of Chicago, Cari Spence of Lewisville, Mike Homer of Los Angeles, Ky Williams of Austin, Katrina Stafford and Jackie Stafford, both of Stinnett, and Reed Williams and Abby Williams, both of Amarillo; and a great-grandson, Zane Stafford of Stinnett. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. (CST) Thursday in Mission Garden of Memories Cemetery in Clovis, N.M., with military honors. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Whitley was born May 19, 1922, to Nora Roberts Whitley and R.N. Whitley Sr., in Clovis. He graduated from Clovis High School, where he was a member of the All-District Wildcats basketball team. He went to the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque, N.M., on a football scholarship in 1942. At the university, he was member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity and the ROTC program. In 1944, he left the university to enter the military during World War II. He attended cadet school at Yale University and received his commission as a second lieutenant. He served as a flight engineer first in the Army Air Corps and later in the Air Force. During World War II, he flew on B-29 aircraft. He returned to the university and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1948. He worked for Sandia Labs in Albuquerque and for Boeing in Seattle. In 1950, he married the former Golden Bayless. He was recalled into the service as a member of Air Force Reserve for the Korean conflict. He was assigned to the Strategic Air Command and was a flight engineer on B-36 aircraft. He worked for American Airlines in Tulsa, Okla. In 1953, he joined the Helium Activity of the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Amarillo. He worked for the Helium Activity until 1984, when he retired as chief of the engineering unit. During his tenure at the Helium Activity, he designed instrumentation for helium extraction for the plant in Keyes, Okla., a plant near Masterson and the helium plant in Amarillo. He was a registered professional engineer in Texas. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. He was an usher and taught Sunday school for fourth-grade boys for more than 35 years. He was ordained as a deacon and served actively until he became a deacon emeritus in 2001. After he retired, he regularly volunteered for the church, visiting church members in hospitals and nursing homes. He was a member of Henry Brown Men's Bible Class. In 2001, the Amarillo West Rotary Club honored him with a Paul Harris Fellowship, the highest honor given by the Rotary Foundation, for his community service and ethics. He was a founding contributor to the restoration of the B-36 named the "City of Fort Worth." He was a member of University of New Mexico Letterman's Association and the university alumni association. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Billy Bob Whitley. He also graduated from St. John's University with a bachelor's degree in English literature and from Eastern New Mexico University, where he received his master's in education. Mr. Mills was an assistant dean of students, counselor and instructor at Amarillo College for 20 years. He loved sailing, music, poetry, his home in the mountains and his constant companion, his dog, Sasha. He was preceded in death by his father, R.O. Mrs. Gardner was born March 27, 1921, in Jacksonville, Fla., to Oscar Alva and Miriam Hagan Maxwell. Mrs. Gardner was a retired registered nurse and a member of American Nurses Association. She was the supervisor of La Casa Canyon Nursing Home in Canyon, Texas, from 1964 to 1982. She graduated from Duke University School of Nursing in 1942. She was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the 65th General Army Hospital in England from 1943 to 1945. She married Glenn R. Gardner on Oct. 25, 1947, in Amarillo, Texas. She resided in Amarillo until moving to Canyon in 1954. She moved to Long Beach in 1993. She was a Methodist. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Stanley; and two sisters. Survivors include her husband; a son, Richard and wife, Carolyn, of Long Beach; and five grandchildren, Sheila, Andrea, Heather, Glenn and Gregory.
