Mrs. Weldon was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Hollis, Okla. She married George W. Weldon in November 1945. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gary Weldon of Wheeler and Rodney Weldon of Lubbock; four daughters, LaJuana Kettler of Arlington, Zadonna Boydston of Tabor, Ill., Eugenna Wright of Lawton, Okla., and Tasha Farner of Amarillo; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Jack Hall of Amarillo and Leroy Hall of Tucson, Ariz. Mr. Padilla was born Nov. 27, 1912, in Laredo. He had lived in Dumas since 1966, and was involved in farming. Mustard, 82, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrews United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Dorn, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery in Amarillo by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors. Mr. Mustard was born Oct. 30, 1920, in El Campo. In 1943 he graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He went to work for Phillips Petroleum Co. at the Borger refinery. His entire career with Phillips was spent at the Borger refinery, except for a year when he oversaw construction of compressor packages in Houston with their subsequent installation at the Ekofisk Oil Field in the North Sea, near Stavanger, Norway. At the time of his retirement in 1981, he was chief plant engineer and master mechanic. He married Wilma Jean McDowell on Jan. 5, 1944, in Manhattan. He served as an officer in the Navy during World War II. Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Mustard of Amarillo and Thomas Mustard and wife, Denise, of Corpus Christi; a daughter, Susan Mustard Roller of Austin; a sister, Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Stratton of Topeka, Kan.; and five grandchildren, John's Children, Jack Alexander, 25, at Parker School of Chiropractic in Irving, and Brooke Andrea, 13, of Amarillo; and Thomas' children, Julia Elizabeth, 21, at SWT in San Marcos, Cristin Alexandra, 19, at A&M in College Station and Dalton Thomas, 12, of Corpus Christi. Amarillo Globe-News, March 21, 2003 Alfred Richard "Pete" Wheeler Alfred Richard "Pete" Wheeler, 84, of Amarillo died Wednesday, March 19, 2003. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church chapel with Dr. Chester O'Brien of the church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Wheeler was born July 19, 1918, in Throckmorton, to Charlie and Clara Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler had lived in Amarillo for most of his life. He attended Amarillo High School, where he won two wrestling awards and is on the Wall of Fame at Amarillo High School for academic achievements. Mr. Wheeler worked for Santa Fe Railway for 42 years, retiring in March 1984. He was active in Boy Scouts for six years during which time he was a leader for Troop 93. Mr. Wheeler also helped build the Maverick Club and helped teach boys who were members. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo and was a Sunday school teacher. He was active in Heritage Club and the Masons. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda in 1964. Survivors include four daughters, Donna Spake of Amarillo, Scharlene Franks of Highland Park, Dee Mata of Portland, Ore., and Judy Barker of Spring; a brother, Frank Wheeler; a sister, Geneva Bonner; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Amarillo Globe-News, March 21, 2003 Morlex Don King Morlex Don King, 59, of Amarillo and Motley County died Wednesday, March 19, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Don McMahan of Turkey United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery of Amarillo. Mr. King, born in Childress, lived in Amarillo, and before 1998 when he started ranching in Motley County. He owned and operated Don King's Goldsmith Jewelry Shop. He attended King's Way Missionary Institute in McAllen and later served as a missionary in Honduras for three years. He was very involved with Boy Scouts, working with Troop 621 in Burleson, where he served as assistant scoutmaster. Mr. King was owner and operator for 15 years of a barbershop in Burleson. In his spare time he loved to fish and hunt. Mr. King married Jane Henley in Amarillo on April 16, 1967. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Brett King of Burleson and Brad King of Waco; a brother, Ronald Gene King of Amarillo; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Wilcox was born Nov. 1, 1914, in Wellsboro, Pa. She graduated from Mansfield College with an associate's degree in teaching. She taught in various areas during her teaching career. Her husband, Quentin "Cap" L. Wilcox, whom she married on Dec. 24, 1936, in Wellsboro, preceded her in death. After his death, she became an avid golfer as well as a bridge player. She lived her life to the fullest, but one day at a time. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mindy W. Murphy on March 22, 2002. Survivors include two grandsons, Colin Sean Murphy and Ryan Joshua Murphy, both of Houston; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Elise Murphy of Houston; and a son-in-law, Jim Murphy of Kerrville. She moved to Texas in 1910 and moved to Floydada in 1920, where she graduated from Floydada High School. She married Vert Readhimer in July 1926, and they moved to Amarillo in 1944. She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Baptist Church, where she was class secretary for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; and two brothers, Leon Heard and Austin Heard. Survivors include several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Amarillo Globe-News, March 21, 2003 Elsewhere Larry Frank McWhorter WEATHERFORD - Larry Frank McWhorter, 46, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery by White's Funeral Home of Weatherford. Mr. McWhorter was reared on ranches in the Texas Panhandle. He attended high school in Canadian and graduated from Clarendon College in Clarendon. Mr. McWhorter then pursued his dream of working for big ranching outfits and living the pure cowboy life. In 1989 he began writing western poetry. His work received national recognition. He was named Cowboy Poet of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists in 1998. In 1999 his album "The Open Gate," received the Academy of Western Artists album of the year award. His book "Contemporary Cowboy Poetry," received national awards from Westerners International and the Arizona Book Publishers GLYPH Award. In addition to writing and performing his poetry, Larry was a certified lay speaker of the United Methodist Church. He had a passion for the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ and loved sharing his faith. Larry knew that "faith comes by hearing, and hearing the word of God," Romans 10:17. It was this conviction that motivated his life. Survivors include his wife, Andrea; three daughters, Abigail, Kimberly and Amber and husband, Kevin; a son, Josh and wife, Sarah; three grandchildren; his mother, Pat Harper and husband, Doug; his father, Frankie McWhorter and wife, Virginia; his grandmother, Evelyn McWhorter; a sister, Denise Gann and husband, Paul; a brother, Sam McWhorter and wife, Bonnie; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; a precious church family; and many friends.
