Burial will be in North Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home. Mrs. Phipps was born Jan. 29, 1918, to Charles Monk and Myra Duckworth Monk in Mansfield, Ark. She married Dudley Phipps on April 15, 1936, in Jonesboro, La. Ruth was a homemaker, but also worked as an Avon salesperson. She was a member of Business and Professional Women's organization. Ruth was a member of Primitive Baptist Church. A longtime resident of Collingsworth County, she currently resided in Rowlett to be near family. Mr. Wilcox was born Nov. 26, 1969, in Amarillo to L.D. and Claudene Wilcox. He graduated from Caprock High School in 1988, and married the love of his life, Mary Samson on Dec. 18, 1993, in West Layden, N.Y. He was a veteran of the Army serving in the 2nd 87th Infantry the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y. He was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday. He was preceded in death by a sister, Debbie Hilleary in 1994. "Slitsy" Slagle, 81, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in White Deer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Toni Bailey, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mr. Slagle was born Nov. 28, 1921, southeast of Panhandle. He grew up farming and ranching northwest of Panhandle. Slitsy was one of the original sailors in the Naval Construction Battalion government commissioned the "23rd Seabees" into the armed forces during World War II. Slitsy served in the Pacific Theater during the war. On Feb. 12, 1949, Slitsy married the sweetheart of his life, Joyce Wiley, and they raised three children while living in White Deer. Slitsy worked as an iron worker until a life-threatening accident in 1958. After two years in the hospital, he returned to farming and ranching around White Deer until he retired in 1983. Slitsy was a charter member of the James McCaskey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Panhandle and a charter member of the White Deer Senior Citizens association. He served on numerous agriculture boards and was a former member of White Deer Lions Club. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Vivian Thomas of Amarillo; two sons, Johnny Slagle and wife, Rebecca, of Wimberley and Wiley Kim Slagle and wife, Dobbie, of Bandera; a daughter, Fran Leiss and husband, John, of Austin; four granddaughters, Shelli Bannerot and husband, Alex, of Fort Worth, Priscila Slagle of Wimberley, and Reanna Slagle and Kortney Slagle, both of Bandera; two grandsons, Rocky Slagle of Austin and Travis Slagle and wife, Molly, of Houston; three stepgrandsons, Jason Lippy, Josh Lippy and Gene Lippy, all of Bandera; and two great-granddaughters, Sophia Bannerot and Isabel Bannerot, both of Fort Worth; and many cousins and friends who will miss him tremendously. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery by McCauley-Robison Funeral Home. Mr. Hester was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Rochester, the son of Roy Lee and Allie Bristow Hester. He married Joyce Beauchamp on Nov. 10, 1950, and resided in Haskell County since 1987. He was a police officer in Brownfield for 18 years, where he was a detective and lieutenant. He retired from State of Texas DHS as a welfare fraud investigator. He was also an instructor for SPAG, and taught law enforcement classes at South Plains College. He was Terry County's first juvenile probation officer and co-owner of Designs by Hester. He was past president of the Kiwanis Club in Brownfield, past V.P. of Toastmasters Club in Brownfield, member of Texas Police Association since 1958, past president of Rule Chamber of Commerce, former member of Rule Lions Club and served on Rule City Council. He was elected Man of the Year in Rule in 1995. He was a member of Rule First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; his mother-in-law, Bertie Beauchamp of Rule; a son, Sydney Joe Hester Jr. of Navasota; a daughter, Peggy Barrier of Arlington; a brother, Alton Hester of Knox City; four grandchildren, James Hester of South Korea, Shawn of Hempstead, Sydney of Arlington and Sherry Woolwine of Enid, Okla.; three great-grandchildren; two uncles, Bobby Hester and wife, Rowena, and Calvin Hester, all of Haskell; and an aunt, Betty Jo Heitsch and husband, Chester, of Bastrop. She was a Methodist by faith and a former member of Chambers Chapel in West Virginia. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and raising gardens. She liked to travel. She always enjoyed having her family around, especially at the holidays. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Molnar in 1963; two sons, George Douglas Molnar and John Michael Molnar; two brothers; and two sisters.
