Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Cornell was born Sept. 16, 1938, in Dallas. He retired as a mechanic after 45 years of service at AA Transmission. He was an avid auto race fan and participated in go-kart racing. He attended St. Laurence Cathedral. Survivors include his wife, Eva; a son, Billy Jack of Amarillo; two daughters, Geneva Taylor of Amarillo and Pam Howard of Arlington; a brother and three sisters, all of Albuquerque, N.M.; an uncle, Joe Taylor of Amarillo; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Georgia St. Mrs. Gordon was born and raised in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1939. She married Verne Gordon in Amarillo in 1945. He passed away in 1999. She worked as a secretary for several years before becoming an interior decorator. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include two sisters, Jane Daniels of Amarillo and Ruby Lee Herndon of Surprise, Ariz.; three brothers, Richmond Hales of Canyon, Lewis Hales and Jones Hales, both of Amarillo; 26 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1959. He also graduated from Amarillo College and University of Texas in 1963. He then moved to California and graduated from the University of Southern California with a master's in business. He then worked for Parsons Corporation in California and was an electrical engineer for many years. Before retirement, he returned to Amarillo in 2003. He was also a Methodist. He was a very loving and giving father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He married Cynthia Greenroyd. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and also was co-owner of Dippin Dots Ice Cream. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a veteran of the Marines First Division. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Jones in 1978, his mother, Dessie Penn in 1998, a sister, Theo Jackson in 1998, and a brother, J.B. Jones in 1998. Georgia St. Mr. Kimball was born in Sentinel, Okla., on Oct. 31, 1934. He moved to Wildorado in 1942 before moving to Amarillo in 1967. He married Frances Crouch in Tucumcari, N.M., on March 13, 1959. He farmed in Wildorado, Dalhart and Dawn. He owned his spray business from 1976 to 1989. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin, in 1958. Mr. Lasley moved to Guymon from Springfield, Colo., in 1972. He worked as a pipeline welder for several years and received a certificate of education from Tulsa Technical College in small engine repair, working as a lawnmower repairman until his health wouldn't allow. Burial will be in the Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Ballard was born Aug. 6, 1911, in Stephenville. He was a Dumas resident since 1939. He was a member of First Baptist Church and worked for American Zinc for 33 years. He worked for Vega School District for four years and Dumas Independent School District for 17 years, retiring in 1993. He married Dorothy Ritchey on June 3, 1935, in Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by his wife on June 15, 2002; and a daughter, Lena Kay Ballard in 1948. Mrs. Raymond was born April 24, 1923, in Swisher County. She married L.G. "Gus" Raymond on June 1, 1947, in Tulia. She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 5, 2001. Amarillo Globe-News, April 6, 2003 Hubert Ayres Jones Sr. MEMPHIS - Hubert Ayres Jones Sr., 78, died Thursday, April 3, 2003. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Jorgenson, Dr. O.K. Bowen, the Rev. Dewayne Wolf and Woodrow Richardson officiating. Arrangements are by Hughs Funeral Home. Mr. Jones passed away at his home after a short battle with cancer, and was comforted in his last days by many friends and family. He was born Dec. 2, 1924, and raised in Memphis by the late Ottie Franklin Jones and Gussie Cornelia Ayres Jones. Like many of his generation, he served his country in World War II, stationed in Hawaii. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. After the war he returned home to Memphis. He married Kathryn Baker Jones on June 23, 1946, and enjoyed a loving and faithful marriage for 57 years. Mr. and Mrs. Jones raised two children, Hubert Ayres Jones Jr. and Kathy Jones Helm, and enjoyed several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a devoted family man who took an active interest in the lives of his children and grandchildren. In 1946, he took a position with Waples Platter, a regional grocery distributor later acquired by Fleming Companies. With great entrepreneurial spirit he opened his first grocery store in 1963. Over the years he bought or opened additional grocery stores around the Panhandle through his company, Southwest Foodliner, Inc. Locations included Memphis, Sunray, Stratford, Paducah, Hale Center, Claude, Clarendon, Childress and Wellington. He had a strong work ethic and was well regarded throughout the Panhandle region. Over the years he helped many other regional businessmen to grow their business. He devoted many hours to community service. He served on the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission, the Memphis Economic Development Council, the Hall County Hospital Board, the Memphis Independent School District Board and the Memphis City Council. An integral part of Hubert's life was his faith in a Living God. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Memphis. In addition to being a deacon, he served the church in many capacities including as a bus driver for choir and other children's activities. He was a true believer and was proud to share his beliefs with others. In sum, he was a tireless worker and selfless individual. He had a passion for helping his fellow man. With a strong faith in and commitment to God, he lived his life in service to God, country, community and family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lemuel Franklin Jones. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; two sisters, Mary Johnson and Ruth Jones, both of Memphis; a son, Hubert Jones Jr. and wife, Connie, of Memphis; a daughter, Kathy Jones Helm and husband, Larry, of Chicago; four grandchildren, Matthew Helm and wife, Christie, of Dallas, Marci Helm Hatcher and husband, Mark, of Dallas, Carole Aponte and husband, Phil, of Rochester, Minn., and Kristin Courtner Jones, a Memphis resident and student at Baylor University; and four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Ayres Helm, Harrison Brooks Helm, Madison Lee Helm and Mary Caroline Hatcher, all of Dallas. He was with the Fort Worth Cats Baseball Farm Team and then with the Brooklyn Dodgers as a pitcher. He was in the Army during World War II.
