Simmons, 55, of Amarillo died Monday, April 7, 2003, in Ardmore, Okla. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Rector Funeral Home Chapel, 2800 S. Osage St., with Dale Moreland, associate pastor at San Jacinto Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano East Cemetery. Mr. Simmons was born in Borger. He moved to Amarillo in 1996 from Fritch. He attended Sanford-Fritch schools and graduated from high school in Kingman, Ariz. He worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe for 25 years. He married Leila Sander in 1976 at Borger. Georgia St. Mr. Coffee was born to Carl and Nova on Dec. 28, 1914. He attended Amarillo schools and received a degree from West Texas A&M University. He was a carpenter and furniture maker. He served in World War II in the Persian Gulf in a Sea Bee unit. He taught woodworking, stone cutting and polishing for senior citizens. He was in the carpenters union for 30 years. Survivors include three cousins, Freda Dugger of Amarillo, Anna Mae Cooper of Hutchinson, Kan., and Leona Baird of Aurora, Colo.; and a friend, Billy Phillips of Amarillo. Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. today at the funeral home. Amarillo Globe-News, April 9, 2003 Dorothy Jean "Dot" Lawrence Dorothy Jean "Dot" Lawrence, 75, of Amarillo died Monday, April 7, 2003. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Mrs. Lawrence was born Sept. 28, 1927, in San Bernardino, Calif., the sixth child of John Peter Gabhart and Edna Lillian Eaglestone Gabhart. She attended schools in Englewood and Hawthorne, Calif., where she excelled in a number of sports. While still in her teens, she was employed in a Goodyear Tire and Rubber plant assembling bulletproof fuel tanks for World War II aircraft, and later worked as a riveter in an aircraft plant. Dorothy married Jere M. Lawrence on Oct. 17, 1945, in Oakland, Calif. After Jere's discharge from the Navy, they made their home in Amarillo. Dorothy began LVN nurses training at Amarillo College in 1966 and received her license in 1967. She worked at Northwest Texas Hospital prior to moving to Florida in 1968. In Florida, she passed the state board exam and received her LPN license, and was employed for a time at Bay Memorial Hospital in Panama City, Fla. She worked as a childcare provider at Coulter Road Baptist Church for the ladies aerobics classes, and then at Central Church of Christ and First Christian Church nurseries and kept children for the Christians Women's Bible Study. For more than 18 years, she served as a teacher at St. Paul United Methodist Church Children's Day Out. To hundreds of area children, she was known affectionately as "Ms. Dot." Dot was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She was beginning her 15th year as a member of the Stan Slade Never Too Old Bowling League at Western Bowl. She won a city singles championship in her class and won a state senior singles event in Lubbock, and then placed third in the national championships in Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by five brothers; and four sisters. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Jere Don Lawrence and wife, Sylvia, of Lewisville, and Maj. George P. Mr. Leeper was born Jan. 29, 1936, in Washburn, and had been a resident of Donley County most of his life. He married Scharlett Sue Banister on May 22, 1958, in Hedley. He was employed by Texas Department of Transportation for 27 years before retiring as an assistant supervisor in 1998. He was a member and deacon of Community Fellowship Church. He had also served as a deacon of Martin Baptist and First Baptist churches. He was music director at Martin Baptist Church for 15 years and had served as music director at many revivals, and provided special music for many other events.
