"Jim" Childress, 74, of Amarillo died Thursday, April 10, 2003. Burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St. Mr. Childress moved to Amarillo in 1994 from California. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then worked as a master chef in Texas, Oklahoma and California. He retired in 1991. Survivors include two brothers, Johnny Childress of Amelia Island, Fla., and Tommy Childress of California; a daughter, LaDonna Jean Childress of Los Angeles; and many nieces and nephews. Amarillo Globe-News, April 13, 2003 Edna L. Boyd Edna L. Boyd, 91, of Amarillo died Friday, April 11, 2003. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Field, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. Boyd was born in Mobeetie. She worked as a waitress and cook and was a Baptist. Survivors include a daughter, Georgia Ann Boyd of Amarillo; a granddaughter, Sherri Gonzales of Amarillo; four great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many close friends. Amarillo Globe-News, April 13, 2003 Rosemary Patterson Rosemary Patterson, 62, of Amarillo died Friday, April 11, 2003. Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Bill Wade, pastor of Buchanan Street United Methodist Church, and Gene Shelburne, minister of Anna Street Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Miss Patterson was born in Hughes Springs in 1940. She was a 1959 graduate of Palo Duro High School and was inducted into the Palo Duro Hall of Fame in 2002. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a master's degree. She taught at Midland Lee High School for 15 years where she was head of the Foreign Language Department. She then came back to Amarillo where she became head of the Foreign Language Department at Amarillo High where she also taught Spanish. She retired in 1999. Miss Patterson was a member of TFLA and chairman of the state convention held in Amarillo in 1996. She was also a member of ACTA and TSTA. Miss Patterson went on several mission trips over the years to Mexico with the ACT Group. She served as interpreter for the group of physicians, dentists and optometrists. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Patterson, and a nephew, Steven Patterson. Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Sherman of Amarillo; a brother, V.E. Patterson of Lubbock; three nephews, Bob Patterson of Modesto, Calif., and James Patterson and Larry Sherman, both of Amarillo; three nieces, Patricia Byrd of Lorena, Patty Monroe of Amarillo and Jenny Wyatt of Garland; four great-nephews; eight great-nieces; and three great-great-nieces. Mary retired from Amarillo Independent School District as a custodian/cook after 25 years of service. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Barbara Ezzell and husband, David, and Patsy Fivek and husband, Cliff,; two sons, Ricky Boyett and Mark Boyett and wife, Vicky,; a sister, Evelyn McMillan; a brother, Robert Duncan; seven grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren, all of Amarillo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 15th Avenue and Martin Road, with the Rev. Landrum Medlock of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Harman moved to Amarillo from Houghton, Kan., in 1982. She retired from Levi Strauss after 15 years. She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army. Mrs. Harman attended Amarillo College after becoming ill, and on April 22, 2001, was awarded "upon the recommendation of the faculty" Outstanding Major in Accounting Associate. Survivors include her husband, Clifford Harman; a daughter, Delores June Hites of Amarillo; two sons, Clifford O. Mr. Calhoun was born Dec. 2, 1937, to Tracy and Johnnie Mae Green Calhoun in Tehuacana, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Clovis resident for most of his life. Bob Gentry officiating. Cremation will be by Muffley Funeral Home Inc. Mr. Frazier served in World War II and flew 67 missions. He married Macel Mobley on June 11, 1966, in Seattle. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Farney, pastor, and the Rev. David White, a family friend, officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Stratford Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Payne was born Sept. 1, 1939, in Kress. He was a Stratford resident for the past 40 years. He married Kay Jacobs on Oct. 15, 1961, in Dalhart. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Stratford and was a mechanic, owner and operator of Jim's Engine Service for 27 years. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jim Bob Payne of El Paso, Kevin Payne and wife, Brenna, of Amarillo and Kyle Payne of Pocatello, Idaho; a daughter, Kathy Rendon and husband, Ruben, of Stratford; a brother, Leo Dailing of Houston; a sister, Norma Thero of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and five grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Stratford Fire Department or a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, April 13, 2003 Margaret Formby HEREFORD - Margaret Formby, 73, died Thursday, April 10, 2003. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tracy Dunn-Noland, Dr. Nathan Stone and the Rev. Terry Cosby officiating. Burial will be at West Park Cemetery by Parkside Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. today in Parkside Chapel. Mrs. Formby was born the daughter of Fred and Mabel Clark on July 12, 1929, in Van Horn. She graduated as salutatorian from Van Horn High School in 1946. She was the student body secretary for two years at Texas Technological College and a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. In 1949, she was voted "Miss Texas Tech" and was a charter member of the Texas Tech Rodeo Association. Mrs. Formby graduated from Texas Tech University in 1950 with a bachelor of art degree. She married Clint Formby on Sept. 16, 1950, in Van Horn and was a member of Fellowship of Believers Church in Hereford. Mrs. Formby taught high school in Colorado City and Hereford. She was the news director at the KPAN radio station in Hereford, a past president of the La Plata Study Club and a youth director for four years. She taught Sunday school and Bible study at First Baptist Church in Hereford. She was president of the church's Women's Missionary Union for two years and an American Red Cross youth director. She helped organize the Hereford Independent School District Volunteer Program and the Women's Panhellenic Chapter. Mrs. Formby volunteered for Kings Manor Methodist Home, the Animal Action Committee and Humane Society, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, Friends of the Deaf Smith County Library and Deaf Smith County Sesquicentennial in 1986. She was a board member for Circle of Friends and for Hereford Town and Country Jubilee. She was past president of the Woman's Division of the Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce. She was voted "Woman of the Year" for Hereford in 1983 and received the Hereford Bull Chip award in 1984. In 1982, Mrs. Formby served as a member of the Texas State Committee on Teenage Pregnancy, and in 1977 was a member of the Texas State Committee on Child Pornography. She served as president of Friends of the Library and Southwest Collection for Texas Tech from 1986 to 1987, was a board member of the Ranching Heritage Center for Texas Tech from 1983 to 1985 and helped develop the "Cowboy Symposium" there. She was a member of the American Association of University of Women. In 1975, Mrs. Formby helped organize and establish the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in the basement of the Deaf Smith County Library, and from 1976 to 1994, she was the director of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center in Hereford. She was an inductee in the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Fort Worth in 1994. Mrs. Formby was editor of the Sidesaddle magazine for the Cowgirl Hall of Fame and a board member and volunteer for the All Girl Rodeos in Hereford. She was a 1993 inductee in the Texas Tech Rodeo Hall of Fame and a 1993 recipient of the "Golden Nail Award" in Amarillo. Mirabella magazine named her a "Fearless Woman" in 1994, and the Texas Plains Girl Scouts named her a Woman of Distinction in 1997. The Amarillo Globe-News named her among The 100 That Made a Difference - History Makers of the High Plains in 2000. She received the Pioneer Woman Award from the American Cowboy Culture Society in 2001. She was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother. Survivors include her husband; three sons, Chip Formby and wife, Lisa, of Hereford, Marshall Formby and wife, Betty, of Lubbock and Scott Formby and wife, Kathy, of New York; a daughter, Brenda Formby of New York; a sister, Mary Beth Powell of Hereford; and four grandchildren. Eddie Tubbs, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors. Mr. Moore was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Anna. He was a Dumas resident since 1949. He married Linda Beard on Sept. 3, 1955, in Clayton, N.M., and he served with the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dumas. He was a farmer and rancher in Moore County since 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ozil F. and Lorene Sellers, and by his brother, Pete Moore. Survivors include his wife; a son, David L. Moore of Dumas; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Moore Harris of Canyon; two sons, Bruce W. Moore of Canyon and Gary D. Moore of Enid, Okla.; a sister, Juanita Turner of Amarillo; and ten grandchildren, Megan, Chad, Brandon, Desiree, Abbigayle, Clay, Leah, Beth, Jessica and Melanie. Amarillo Globe-News, April 13, 2003 Marie Reynolds McCracken CLARENDON - Marie Reynolds McCracken, 91, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, in Amarillo. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Robertson Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Bryan Knowles, pastor of Community Fellowship Church, and the Rev. Darrell Burton, pastor of Martin Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors Inc. Mrs. McCracken was born Aug. 5, 1911, in Clark County, Ark. She had been a resident of Alanreed before moving to Clarendon 30 years ago. She married George McCracken on Nov. 7, 1931, in Clarendon. She graduated from Groom Medical Nursing School and had worked as an LVN for 26 years at Groom, Shamrock and McClean hospitals. She retired from the McLean hospital after 13 years of service and then worked at Medical Center Nursing Home in Clarendon for six years before her final retirement. She was a member of the LVN Association and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for several years and was a member of Martin Baptist Church. Casket bearers will be her grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 2, 1964; a daughter, Patsy McCracken Cox in 1987; two sons, Bobby Lee McCracken in 1932 and George Dale McCracken in 1934; three sisters; and five brothers. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Cockerham of Howardwick; a son, Ronald McCracken of Houston; two sisters, Lorene McAnear of Clarendon and Martiel Webb of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
