Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Davenport, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Metcalf was born July 6, 1930, in Stonewall County to Lillie and T.C. Adams Sr. She grew up in Wrights Chapel Community and graduated from Aspermont High School in 1948. She moved to Tulia in 1957. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of the Tulia Progressive Study Club. She was an avid bowler. She loved her children and grandchildren and was totally devoted to all their sporting activities. She was known by her grandchildren's teammates as "Nanny." She will be sorely missed by numerous friends and family who received her famous peanut brittle at Christmas time. Her greatest accomplishment was raising a child with special needs to live a very normal life against many obstacles. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Metcalf Merritt; her parents; three brothers; and four sisters. Mrs. Babitzke was born Jan. 16, 1939, in Parkersburg, W.Va., to Donald Fred and Mary Ruth McDonald Witt. She graduated from Calhoun County High School and West Virginia University. Mrs. Babitzke married Edward Bert Babitzke on Oct. 5, 1963, at Lackland Air Force Base. Mrs. Babitzke entered the Air Force in 1962. She served in Texas, Alaska, Southeast Asia and Arizona as a personnel officer and received the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with five bronze stars. She retired as a major in November 1989. Mrs. Babitzke was a life member of West Virginia University Alumni Association, Germans from Russia Heritage Society and National Rifle Association. She was also a member of American Historical Society of Germans from Russia, Beer Can Collectors of America and American Breweriana Association. She enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mrs. Babitzke had been living in Tucson since 1969. Mrs. Apel was born Jan. 21, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo., to Dr. Thomas Horatio and Dr. Anna Haigh McKenzie. Anna with her two daughters, Elizabeth and Frances, came to Texas by train in March 1917. Since the farm was 12 miles from Panhandle with "too many gates to open and close," Frances was home schooled until she was in the fourth grade. She graduated from Panhandle High School at age 16 and completed a two-year degree at Amarillo Junior College before marrying John William Apel Jr. on Sept. 12, 1934. They farmed and operated an Oliver farm machinery company before World War II made farm machinery unavailable for sale. Frances wrote short stories and poetry, served as president of Erudite Fine Arts Club, was a founding member of Panhandle High School band boosters and was a Carson County election judge for many years. She was untiring in her work and support of the Republican Party. She was preceded in death by her parents; her older sister, Elizabeth Hollander; and her life's partner who died Sept. 13, 1996, the day after their 62nd wedding anniversary. Survivors include her children, Ann Stewart and husband, Dr. W.H., of Edmonton, Alberta, Marie Ishee and husband, Dr. W.W., of Spring and John Thomas Apel and wife, Carolyn, of Panhandle; two grandchildren, Angela Apel of Fort Worth and Jonathan Ishee of Houston; and a brother, Robert Haigh McKenzie and wife, Ginger, of Cincinnati. Eric Das, 30, formerly of Amarillo died Sunday, April 6, 2003. Captain Das was born in the Netherlands on Dec. 20, 1972. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1991. He attended the Air Force Academy and graduated in 1995. He married Nikki Skibinski on Oct. 20, 2001, at First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo. He and Nikki's home was in Goldsboro, N.C., where they were stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB. Eric and his wife, 1st Lieutenant Nikki Das, were both deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of the current conflict. Eric was a son who exemplified what faith in Christ, honor and duty and a life of excellence meant. His strong faith was an inspiration to our family, friends and his fellow serviceman, and to all who knew him. We thank you for your prayers and display of love for us in this time of loss and sorrow. We are comforted with the many joyous memories of Eric's thirty years of life. The Lord, whom we love and serve, is also comforting us. We know that Eric is with his Lord and Savior now and we know that we will be united with him again. This is not the final chapter but his legacy will continue to be written. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle. Mrs. McGaughy was born Dec. 10, 1915, to James M. "Jim" and Zuma Collins in Rosston. She attended school at Decatur. She married Robert Samuel "Bob" McGaughy on Sept. 23, 1933, in Waurika, Okla. They farmed in Wise County and operated a service station and grocery store in Decatur. They also lived in Lubbock before moving to Amarillo in 1945. Mrs. McGaughy worked for Levines, Montgomery Ward and other department stores. She managed the family business, Bob's Plumbing and was the "financial planning officer of the McGaughy family." Mrs. McGaughy had been a member of Chi Rho Sigma sorority since 1980, and was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy. She and her husband were founding members of Trinity Baptist Church. In her lifetime, Mrs. McGaughy was a daughter, a sister, a sweetheart, a wife, a mother, a business-woman, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a Sunday school teacher, a friend, and she performed all of those duties exceptionally well. She was preceded in death by her husband in November 2002. Survivors include three children, Bob J. McGaughy and wife, Jaton, and Cathy Costin and husband, James, all of Amarillo, and Donny McGaughy of Bridgeport; a sister, Catherine Irby of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Jayra Ray and Sam McGaughy, both of Amarillo, and Andy McGaughy of North Richland Hills; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson and the Rev. Lynn Garrett officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Lamkin was born in Memphis in 1930 to Carroll "Peck" Lamkin and Nora Bell Parks. He attended Amarillo High School, where he served as co-captain for the football team as a senior. He transferred to Price College and served as co-captain there as well. Kenneth played football at West Texas State University, ran track and was on the wrestling team. He later received his master's degree in education from WTSU in 1966. During college, he learned the cement trade and worked for AE Swift and Sons and Charles Walker Cement Co. Kenneth married Nita Howard in Clovis, N.M., in 1952. He was a lifetime educator, starting at Highland Park where he coached and taught English, science and history for two years. He was recruited by the Bushland Independent School District, where he coached basketball for 16 years, enjoying winning seasons every year. He eventually became principal, but continued to coach, teach, drive the bus, clean the school and serve the Bushland community. His school and his students were his passion. Kenneth retired in 1992 from BISD. The school's gym was named the C. Kenneth Lamkin Gymnasium, in honor of his years of dedication. He was a lifetime member of Texas Elementary Principal's Association, The Texas State Teachers Association, Elk's Club and PTA. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He also took great pride in pouring and finishing a great concrete job. Kenneth's legacy lives on in his family and friends who loved him dearly as the most wonderful husband, father, granddaddy, brother, uncle and friend in the world. The family would like to invite those who would like to write down their memories about this great man to do so at the funeral home, where they can be collected and cherished by the family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Kane in July 2001. She was a longtime resident of Garden City. She married Homer M. Cravens on Nov. 10, 1942. Later she married William D. Moshier.
