Arrangements are by Cimarron Mortuary. Mr. Burnett was born June 15, 1918, in Cimarron County. He married Marie Wray on Feb. 15, 1941, in Boise City. Survivors include three sons, Wade Burnett of Cleburne, Texas, Dean Burnett of Boise City and Carl Burnett of Hugoton, Kan.; three daughters, Barbara Wardlaw of Boise City, Doris Parsons of Stratford, Texas, and Lynda Clifton of Fritch, Texas; a brother, Carl Babe¹¹ Burnett of Okemah; three sisters, Margaret Mitchell of Kansas City, Kan., Faye Donley of Forsyth, Mont., and Jennie Dearduff of Edmond; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Adams Funeral Home in Wellington. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Wellington. Mrs. Nored was born Jan. 11, 1901, in Munday, one of seven children. She married Thomas Darrell Nored on Jan. 19, 1919. They had three children. Although Ira Oma never finished high school, she worked for civil service or ran her own businesses all of her life. After 20 years in the real estate business in San Marcos, she retired in 1985 at the age of 84. Ira Oma loved quilting, collecting figurines and garage saleing, however, her main love was fishing. She¹d fish with anyone, anytime, anywhere. She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, T.D. Jr. Survivors include a son, Donald Nored and wife, Nadine, of Seguin; a daughter, Zelda Ruth Hudspeth of Hollis, Okla.; five grandchildren, Garland Midgett, Cherry Nored Price, Don Nored Jr., Tina Nored Kasiske and Len Nored; eight great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren ranging in age from 35 to 14 months. Mr. Stipe was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Sherman County to Paul and Marie Burroughs Stipe. He attended Hartley High School and married Mary Sue Rice in Clovis in 1954. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II. He farmed in Stratford for five years then ranched in Shamrock. He moved to Canyon in 1963. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Canyon. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Stipe in 1963; a sister, Loyce White in 2001; and a brother, Jesse Stipe in 1998. Graham, 87, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, in Wellington. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church of Wellington with the Rev. Derwin Comer, minister of youth and music, and James Earp, son-in-law, officiating. Burial will be in Dodson Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. Mr. Graham was born Aug. 12, 1915, to Grover Cleveland and Mabel Hagar Graham in Burro. He came to Collingsworth County in 1920 from East Texas. Grover married Ozada Kesler on June 26, 1938, in the Kelley Community of Collingsworth County. He worked for Phillips 66 in Amarillo and Borger from 1938 to 1940. Grover returned to the Kelley Community in 1940 to farm and ranch. He operated Dodson Service Station from 1959 to 1963, and was also the manager for Davis Gin in Dodson for 22 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge and past-president of Dodson Cemetery Association. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1994; three brothers; and a sister. Survivors include a son, Grover R. Amarillo Globe-News, May 2, 2003 Dr. John Robert Askins Jr. DUMAS Dr. John Robert Askins Jr., 83, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, in Amarillo. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Dumas Cemetery with the Rev. Darrel David Waite, pastor of First Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas. Dr. Askins was born in Britton, Okla., and raised in Oklahoma City. He attended Central State College in Edmond, Okla., before being drafted into the Army in September 1941. Dr. Askins served in the infantry for five and a half years, with service in the European Theater. He was discharged from military service as a captain. He attended Oklahoma University Medical School, graduating in 1950. He took his internship at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver. He married Jerry Oliphint in 1944, and they moved to Dumas in 1951. Dr. Askins practiced as a family physician in Dumas until his retirement in April 1986. He was a member of the Jaycee¹s and served on the Dumas Park Board for many years. His church membership was with First Presbyterian Church in Dumas, where he served as an elder. He was preceded in death by his parents of Weatherford, Okla.; and a sister, of Weatherford. Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Dana Askins and John Robert Askins III; six grandchildren, John Robert Askins IV, James Monroe Askins, Ashley Dawn Askins, Justin Cummins, Caleigh Rae Askins and Cordell James Askins; a brother-in-law, Bud Oliphint; and a sister-in-law, Cleo Oliphint. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Lockney Cemetery in Lockney by Holley Funeral Home. Mrs. Corder was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Kress, to James Carl Huddleston and Della Mae Carthel. She married Joel Corder on Oct. 21, 1945, in Lockney. He was a member of Church of Christ. Mrs. Odle was born April 2, 1946, in Borger and was raised there. She moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1962, where she graduated from high school and attended Arizona State University. She moved back to Borger in 1965 and married David Odle on June 11, 1965. Their love for one another touched many. She was an accomplished pianist and taught piano lessons for many years. Mrs. Odle enjoyed music, decorating and most of all, raising her family. Her family is very thankful for the honor of having her in their lives, and grateful for the life lessons that she taught. We will always love her. Amarillo Globe-News, May 2, 2003 Amarillo George Donald Curphey George Donald Curphey, 79, of Amarillo died Saturday, April 26, 2003. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Virgil Patterson Auditorium of the Bank of America building. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Bartlesville, Okla., by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Curphey was born in Bartlesville on Feb. 5, 1924, to George M. and Lillian Carlos Curphey. He graduated from Bartlesville College High School in 1942. Following Air Force pilot training, he served as a first lieutenant and B-26 pilot in the 599th Bomb Squadron, 397th Bomb Group in the European theater of operation during World War II, piloting many successful missions. He attended the University of Oklahoma, earning bachelor¹s degrees in business administration and journalism and a graduate degree from the OU Harris School of Advertising Art. He married Dorothy Jean Mills, also of Bartlesville, in 1950. In 1951, he moved to Amarillo and was employed as an account executive on the Shamrock Oil and Gas account at McCormick Advertising and Engraving Co. He became a vice president of the company three years later upon the death of the founding principal, James L. McCormick. In 1964, Mr. Curphey became president of the company, then became chairman in 1987 and chairman emeritus in 1990. During his career, he was president or chairman of the following groups: Harrington Regional Medical Center, Inc., Amarillo Club, BIOS (Business Involved in Our Schools), Amarillo Unitarian Fellowship (founding member) and Family Service/Travelers Aid Agency. He was a founding member of Olivia¹s Angels, the support organization for BSA Hospice. He also served as a board member of Downtown Kiwanis Club, United Way, Amarillo Country Club, and High Planes Soaring Society. He was active with the University of Oklahoma Alumni Development Fund. He was founder of a tongue-in-cheek discussion group called the TWITS (The Western Intellectual Tradition.) His professional involvement included being president of Southwestern Association of Advertising Agencies, president of Amarillo Advertising Club and a member of Alpha Delta Sigma advertising fraternity. He received a national CLIO award for a television spot he developed for Shamrock Oil & Gas, along with dozens of Addy Awards at the local and regional levels.The Amarillo Advertising Federation honored him with the Silver Medal Award for lifetime achievement. Mr. Curphey married Genneil Ziegenhorn of Amarillo in 2001 at Lake Tahoe, Nev. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and a brother, Richard Curphey. Survivors include his wife; son, Chris Curphey and wife, Sandra, of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Cale Curphey and Cameron Curphey, both of Amarillo; and a brother, David Curphey of Waynesville, N.C.
