Mr. McAdams was a member of the Baptist Church. He had lived in the Spearman area for more than 40 years. He was married to Ruby Jo Hays for 50 years. He worked in the oil fields of Texas and New Mexico for more than 40 years. He built a water well rig from the ground up and drilled water wells in the Spearman area for a few years. He was hard-headed, but gave pretty sound advice. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999. "Tooter" Payne in Clovis, N.M., on March 26, 1946. She was a lifelong resident of Swisher County and was a member of Happy Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1997; and a brother, Donald Ray Speer, in 2003. Mrs. Brinkley was born Jan. 9, 1939, in Quail, Collingsworth County. She was an Amarillo resident before moving to Claude in 1990. She married Robert Clifton Brinkley on Jan. 11, 1958, in Wellington. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 5, 1983. Mr. Mode was born Nov. 16, 1930, in Cameron to Ollie and Amy Jane McCullough Mode. He married Joann Hickey at Corpus Christi on May 31, 1957. He farmed and ranched in Deaf Smith and Milam Counties and felt privileged to do what he loved. He was a member of Avenue Baptist Church of Hereford. He was a friend to many and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Georjan; his parents; a brother, Marvin Mode; and a sister, Wynelle Bishop. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Monsignor Harold Waldow, of Blessed Sacrament Church in Amarillo, and the Rev. Jim McGhee, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Mrs. Brockman was named K.P.A.N. Mother Day "Mother of the Year" in 1979. She was born Aug. 5, 1932, in Groom to G.E. and Catherine Schneider. She graduated from Groom High School in 1949. In 1950, she moved to Amarillo. She attended Amarillo College, worked for Holland Tile Co. and later Navajo Freight Lines. She was on the "Dowell's Dolls" Basketball Team. In 1957, she married Allan J. Brockman and moved to Dimmitt. In 1967 they moved to Tucumcari, N.M., and in 1969 to Hereford where she raised her beautiful family. She participated in St. Anthony's Catholic Church activities, school activities and was loved and respected by many. In the 1980s, after Allan became ill, she was employed by Holly Sugar Co., Don Tardy Insurance Co., and in 1989 became Executive Director of the Deaf Smith County Historical Museum, where she loved every minute, until her retirement, due to illness, in late 1998. For the next three years, she made her home with her son, Lt. Col. Gregory Brockman in Kansas and Alabama until illness forced her into a nursing home in Amarillo in January 2002. In Amarillo, she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan in 1986; a son, Chris in 1973; her parents; and a brother, Walter Schneider in 2001. Survivors include five sons, Paul Brockman and wife, Jody, and children, Jaqlyn and Garrett, all of Amarillo, Donald Brockman and wife, Kelley, of Glen Allen, Va., Lt. Col. Mrs. Glenn was born in Happy on Feb. 8, 1916, the daughter of Lewis Reed and Laura Marion Nye Dillon. Following her graduation from Happy High School, she lived in San Antonio and Burbank, Calif. She married D.E. "Charlie" Glenn in 1951 and returned to Texas, where they settled in Amarillo. She was an accountant for auto dealerships and later was a firm administrator for the CPA firm H.V. Robertson and Co. She retired in 1978. Nye was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Revolution and Mayflower Descendants. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1989; a brother; and three sisters. Connaly Dugger officiating. Arrangements are by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home. Mr. Roming was born to Alfred and Alma Mae Norwood Roming in Eddy on April 4, 1920. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1942, on the same day he was commissioned into the Army as a second lieutenant. He was in the European Theater, and at the age of 25 was made a lieutenant colonel. He resigned in 1947. He was in the retail clothing business until his retirement in 1998. Mrs. Roming was born to William Asbey and Ada Daniel in Belton on Nov. 13, 1919. She was a homemaker. They were married on Sept. 27, 1942, in Birmingham, Ala. They lived most of their lives in Amarillo, and the last four years between Blackwell and Maryneal. They were members of First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Together they were avid golfers, loved to hunt, fish and spend lots of time with their grandchildren. Mr. Roming was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Tommy Joe Roming. Mrs. Roming was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Muriel Kock; and a brother, W.A. Daniel. Amarillo Globe-News, May 9, 2003 Journalist dies at 69 FORT WORTH (AP) - Mark Murphy, former vice president and editor of The Hartford (Conn.) Courant, died Tuesday after a long battle against cancer. He was 69. Born in Honolulu, Murphy grew up in Oregon. He began his journalism career in 1957 as a copy editor at The Salt Lake Tribune before returning to Oregon, where he worked at a small Pendleton paper and later at The Oregonian in Portland. He joined the Los Angeles Times as an assistant news editor in 1965 and eventually was promoted to metropolitan editor, overseeing news coverage for all of Southern California. In 1981, Murphy became vice president and editor of the Courant. He later returned to Los Angeles to become managing editor of KCBS-TV's news department. He most recently worked in various editing jobs at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Murphy is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons Ryan and Rick; daughters Pam Waxman, Kelly Cooper and Cindy Murphy; and three grandchildren.
