Gene Sorley officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Mr. Holmes was born in Pontotoc Indian Territory. He married Lela Rae Hammock in 1930. She preceded him in death in 1992. He moved to Amarillo in 1936. He moved to Lubbock in 1984 and returned to Amarillo in 2000. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was the past master of Lodge 731. For several years he was the secretary of Lodge 731 and secretary of chapter council and commandery. He was a district deputy grand master. At the time of his death he was a member of Woolforth Lodge in Lubbock. He was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Holmes of Amarillo and William M. Holmes of Ben Wheeler; two daughters, Pauline Clark of San Jose, Calif., and Earlene Schulze of Henderson, Nev.; six grandsons; four great-grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.
