Schuster LUBBOCK - Robert G. Schuster, 79, died Monday, May 12, 2003. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church. Burial will be at 10 a.m. in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery by Rix Funeral Directors. Mr. Schuster lived a full, rich, and rewarding life that focused on Holly, the love of his life, and wife of 61 years; his wonderful daughters, Linda Greenstreet, Ronda Hill, Julie Black and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bob's journey in this life began July 19, 1923, in Beaver County, Okla. His family moved to Perryton and pioneered that part of the Panhandle. Bob grew up in the wheat fields around Perryton and together with his brother, Donald, was an entrepreneur at an early age. Bob met Holly in the fourth grade and a life-long bond of love began. After Bob graduated from high school, he attended Texas Tech until Pearl Harbor. At the age of 19, he applied to become a pilot in the Army Aviation Cadet Program. He successfully completed a rigorous training program that culminated in his becoming a pilot and attaining the rank of captain. During World War II, he flew numerous hours in Europe, the Middle East and over "The Hump" the China. His exceptional flying skills were recognized and he was honored by being selected to pilot the planes of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, United States ambassadors and many generals. Following World War II, Bob began a successful career in life insurance and financial planning. Bob was a consummate salesman and mentor. He was a frequent recipient of the President's Award from American General Life Insurance Co., and a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table. His career was successful because of the professional and ethical way in which he conducted his business affairs. His entrepreneurial spirit helped others as he served on the advisory council of the Small Business Administration, executive committee membership of the Texas Tech University Foundation and School of Business, and as a founding director of Whisperwood National Bank. He was honored by the Rush Elementary School PTA as a lifetime member. Bob was a Godly man. He was a loyal and supportive member of First Christian Church of Lubbock. His compassion for his fellow man was demonstrated throughout his life. He was the first to be there for anyone in need. He used his gift as a cook to be first with a dish of food, a loaf of bread or his famous cinnamon rolls. There was no greater fan and supporter of Texas Tech University. He was very proud to have been a member of Red Raider Club and Chancellor's Council. Any conversation with Bob had to include something about how great Texas Tech was and the current status of the football, men's basketball and "Lady Raider" teams. Overshadowing the events and successes of his life was Bob's love for his friends and family. Bob was blessed with many friends because he was the "best friend" a person could have. One of his friends said, "He is your best friend who brings out the best that is in you." In the lives of many, that man was Bob Schuster. But of all of the important attributes in his life, he truly lived for family. Bob set the example of love, integrity, loyalty and how to live a Christian life. Thank you Lord for sharing the life of Bob Schuster with us. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Schuster; his father, Amos Schuster; and a brother, Donald of Perryton. Survivors include his children, Linda Greenstreet and husband, Gary, of Lubbock, Rhonda Hill and husband, Tom, of Fort Worth, and Julie Black and husband, Rick, both of Lubbock; his grandchildren, Ginda and Chris Level and Cathleen Lasater, all of Lubbock, Lacy and Bobby Brown of Lafayette, La., Holly and Barney Wiley and Hayley Hill, all of Fort Worth, Dusty Hill of Houston, and Hannah Black of Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Janice Flathers and husband, Neal, of Perryton; a sister-in-law, Virginia Andrews of Perryton; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to Hospice of Lubbock, P.O. Box 16800, Lubbock, TX 79490; UMC Foundation Southwest Cancer Center Fund, 602 Indiana Ave., Lubbock, TX 79415; or First Christian Church, 2323 Broadway St., Lubbock, TX 79401.
