Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Gammill was born in Turkey and raised in Fort Sumner, N.M. He married Elsie Klamroth in 1936 at Fort Sumner. She preceded him in death in 1979. He moved to Amarillo in 1940 and joined the Navy in 1944. He served in World War II in the South Pacific. After the war, he returned to Amarillo. In 1959, he moved to Lebanon, Ore., where he was pastor of Oak Street Missionary Baptist Church. In 1964, he returned to Amarillo to be pastor of Forest Hill Missionary Baptist Church. At his retirement, he moved back to Lebanon. He married Edna Parkhurst in 1982. She preceded him in death in 1991. He returned to Amarillo in 1997. Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Chandler of Amarillo and Elaine Gay of Lebanon; two sons, Jerry Gammill of Olalla, Wash., and Roy Gammill of Denton; five sisters, Zona Hawthorne and Ella Sandefer, both of Amarillo, Freda Inglis of Napa, Calif., Hazel Smith of Fort Sumner and Louise Harrison of Portales, N.M.; two brothers, Glen Gammill of Amarillo and Ellis Gammill of Fort Sumner; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Jacksonville Baptist College. Amarillo Globe-News, May 19, 2003 John Charles Oakley John Charles Oakley, 39, of Amarillo died Sunday, May 18, 2003. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home, Bell Avenue Chapel, 5400 Bell St., with Dale Travis, pastor of Family Life Fellowship Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Oakley was born in Amarillo on Jan. 28, 1964. He was a tile setter by trade. He recently completed several public works projects including a number of cabins at Palo Duro Canyon. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Roy Oakley, in 1989; and a brother, Billy Roy Oakley Jr., in 1979. Survivors include his mother, Sally Oakley of Amarillo; three daughters, Jo Beth Fancher, Sally Sidman and Billie Gotcher, all of Amarillo; four nieces, Stefanie Gambrell, Christina Gibson and Jill Gotcher, all of Amarillo, and Michele Gee of Hereford; three nephews, Christopher Fancher, Shawn Gotcher and Jason Gotcher, all of Amarillo; and a great-nephew, Clayton Wade Gambrell of Amarillo. Georgia St. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Mr. Hobart was born in Chandler, Okla. He served in the Army during World War II. He managed grocery stores in Amarillo for many years and was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Bertha; two stepdaughters, Mickie Hester of Amarillo and Nancy Hoddenpyle of Oklahoma; a stepson, Jim Pollard of Fritch; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was a 1937 Perryton High School graduate and a veteran of World War II. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas. Mr. Orthman was born May 5, 1931, in Nowata, Okla., to Lewis "Louie" Orthman and Callie Viola Redfern Orthman. He attended school in Maxwell, N.M., and Farley, N.M. He had been an owner/operator truck driver for more than 50 years. He was a veteran in the Navy serving in the naval reserves. He married Carolyn Sorensen on Sept. 3, 1965, in Albuquerque, N.M. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; his father; his mother; and two sisters, Margie Payton and Pauline Payton. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Lewis Henry Orthman and wife, Barbara, of Ladson, S.C., Keith Sorensen and wife, Karen, of Dumas and Joe Lewis Orthman of Terrill; two daughters, Susan Mayfield and husband, Robert, of Mobeetie and Shannon Pool of Dumas; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends and church family. She grew up in Tulia where she attended and graduated from Tulia High School in 1958. She also attended West Texas State University in Canyon. She married Bobby Glenn Cox on May 21, 1964, in Tulia and moved to Plainview where she was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Busy Hands Demonstration Club and several different prayer groups. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Leslie Cox of Lubbock; a son, Wade Cox of Divide, Colo.; and six grandchildren, Nicky Gary, Matthew Cox, Christian Cox, Lacee Cox, Courtney Cox and Robert Cox. Mrs. Archer was a legal secretary and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Gruver High School and was on the state basketball team. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan E. Archer; and her parents, Walter and Ella Thomas. The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity. Amarillo Globe-News, May 19, 2003 Elsewhere Kenneth E. McGuire KERRVILLE - Kenneth E. McGuire, 84, died Saturday, May 17, 2003. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Cummings, minister of Sidney Baker Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Canyon. Mr. McGuire was born Jan. 21, 1919, in Fowler, Kan., to the late Earl Wayne and Nellie Elizabeth Beagley McGuire. He spent most of his youthful life in Kansas and Alabama. He was an independent grocery store owner in Kansas before moving to Amarillo where he spent 25 years in sales and as a buyer in the men's clothing business. He married Reva Thomas in June 1944 in Edna, Kan. Mrs. McGuire passed away in February 1985. On Oct. 26, 1985, he married Alice Hissom in Meade, Kan., and they moved to Kerrville for retirement where they had spent the last 15 years. He was a member of Sidney Baker Church of Christ. He served as a deacon in Amarillo at Central Church of Christ for 17 years. He also was a member of Knife and Fork Club as well as Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; and four siblings. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kaye McGee and husband, Randy, of Lubbock and Kennye Semones and husband, Jack, of Carrollton; a stepson, Ed Hissom and wife, Pat, of Meade; a brother, Ray McGuire of Pratt, Kan.; a sister, Dorothy Kroeker of Minneola, Kan.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of many loving friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be to Sidney Baker Church of Christ Building Fund or to Muscular Dystrophy Fund.
