Mr. Hogue was born to Dock and Mary Higgins Hogue on Nov. 15, 1940, in Garland. He lived in Wheeler from 1964 until 1990 and Whitney since 1993. Mr. Hogue was a rancher and oil field worker. He was a member of Blossom Hill Family Church in Haltom City. Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Gallagher of Wheeler, Renee Blankenship of Stephenville and Rebecca Foreman of Krum; six grandchildren; a brother, Terry Carpenter of Justin; and a sister, Vicki Dunn-Peeble of California. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Christian Church in Spearman with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman. Mr. Evans was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Margaret, Foard County, to Garrett Edward and Gertrude Banister Evans. He attended high school in Kress and volunteered in the Navy in May 1945, serving for two years at sea as a supply officer. He moved to Spearman in 1949. He worked as a carpenter with his uncle, John Banister, and Hull Contractors, and helped build several homes in Spearman and Gruver, as well as the Methodist Church in Gruver and the First Christian Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Spearman. He married Margarette Wilbanks on June 20, 1950, in Spearman. He and Margarette planned and built their country home in 1963. He was active in community and church activities, was a member of First Christian Church, serving on the church board. He was a past Boy Scout leader, past president of the Spearman Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 1040 AF&AM and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an acting board member of the Palo Duro River Authority. For many years it was his joy to take his sweetheart of over 50 years out to dine on Saturdays. He also enjoyed growing a 5- to 7 -acre field garden for his friends and family to enjoy. He was a loving husband, father and PawPaw. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary L. He was a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Kathleen Smith; and a brother, Jerry Smith. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Vernon was born to EM and Grace Vernon on June 17, 1920, in Comanche. He moved to Amarillo in 1928 and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1939 and attended Texas Tech. He joined the Navy in 1941 and served on two destroyers, USS Hopkins, USS Dorsey, USS Sub Chaser 502, and the USS Zuni. He was awarded battle stars for the Battle of Midway and Coral Sea and he was honorably discharged in the summer of 1945. He married Nelda Reed in Amarillo on April 1, 1949. He founded H&R Foods Co. in 1969 and was active in the business until his death. He was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and a member of the Christians Workers Sunday School class. He was a member of the Wadley Leukemia Association. He was an avid tennis player, winning the 1936 city championship, and an avid golfer at La Paloma. He loved and honored his parents, wife, family, friends and employees. He was preceded in death a son, Bradley Reed Vernon; and his parents. Georgia St. Mr. Hicks was born in Mount Vernon, Ill., and raised in Albany. He graduated from Albany High School in 1968. He was a graduate of Angelo State University where he lettered in basketball. He studied science and received a bachelor of science degree. A teacher, coach and businessman with strong ties throughout the Panhandle, his first coaching job was at Rotan High School. He then moved to Wellington in 1973 as head basketball and track coach. He coached in Wellington until 1980. He started in the oil and gas business in Amarillo and served in that capacity until his death. He will be dearly missed by his friends, family and all he touched. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Sullivan Hicks; and a brother, Mike Davis.
