Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Memory Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Arthur Hickox, of Full Gospel of the Body of Christ Fellowship, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Crowder was born Feb. 16, 1912, in Masham, Okla., in Pawnee County to James and Maude Crowder. He grew up in Masham and graduated from Pawnee High School. He earned his bachelor of science degree and master's degree from Oklahoma A&M University at Stillwater, Okla. He taught school in various rural Oklahoma schools in Pawnee County, at Kingfisher, where he was also the band director, and at Dewey and Garber. He retired from teaching in Ponca City, Okla. He was also a football and basketball coach and principal at Kingfisher. He was an avid golfer and hunter. He was a life member of OEA and a lifelong member of First Christian Church, serving as deacon for many years. He married Rubye J. Harris on June 27, 1937, in Ralston, Okla. They celebrated their golden anniversary in 1988. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold Crowder of Bloomington, Ind., and Marlin Crowder of Fairfax, Okla. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carol Ann Wheatley and husband, Mack, of Amarillo; a sister, Lila Neet of Pawnee, Okla.; and a special friend, Dona Larson of Amarillo. Dobson Schwan, 83, of Amarillo died Friday, June 13, 2003. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Llano Cemetery with the Rev. Frank Williams, lay person, officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Schwan was born Jan. 21, 1920, in Frederick, Okla., to William "Bud" Dobson and Julia Parrish Dobson. She was the youngest of 12 children growing up in Oklahoma. Jokingly, however, she would say "I wasn't born in Texas but got here as quick as I could," living her life in Amarillo from young adulthood. On Dec. 24, 1938, she was married to Henry G. Schwan. They had a daughter, Judy, in 1940. Henry later became an Amarillo City employee and fire chief of many years. He went to be with the Lord in May 2001. She had a long career with Southwestern Public Service Co. in Amarillo. A faithful wife for 62 years, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and loving friend to many, Jackie left a rich heritage and will be greatly missed. The family and fiends of Jackie V. Dobson Schwan will celebrate her life at a graveside service. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Garrett and husband, Bill, of Grapevine; two granddaughters, Holly Raif and husband, Tony, of Carlsbad, Calif., and Amy Klein and husband, Dana, of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; four great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Camryn Klein, and Ethan and Joshua Raif; and scores of nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, with Dr. Dana Moore, pastor of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery with military rites by D.A.V. Chapter 26. Mr. Byars was born in Floydada and had been a resident of Amarillo since 1927. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He retired as a mechanic from Southwestern Public Service Co. and Ryder Truck Rental. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He married Cathy Westmoreland on Dec. 31, 1988. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Byars; his parents, Lillie and Albert J. Byars; a brother, Harold Byars; and a sister, Fern Kiker. Survivors include his wife; his children, Steve Byars and Michael Pryer, both of Amarillo, Pamela Davenport of Grapevine, Connie Comer of Alabama, Beverly Batte of Deer Park and Betty Bennett of Alabama; two sisters, Gwen Baker of Amarillo and Gene Bellchambers of California; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Georgia St. Mr. Sena worked as a roofer for the majority of his life. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Georgia St. Mrs. Pennington was born and raised in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1957 and later attended Wayland Baptist University. She married John Pennington in Amarillo in 1964. They lived in Tulsa before moving to El Paso where they resided for 30 years. While living in El Paso, she was very active in civic organizations and helped raise money for various local charities. They returned to Amarillo in 1998. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo and Coronado Baptist in El Paso. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001; and a granddaughter, Ashley Brooke in 1983. He was a radio operator and machine gunner on a B24 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a plant superintendent of Farr Better Feeds for 18 years in Guymon, Okla. He moved to Amarillo in November 2002. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Guymon. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two daughters, Kitty Mathis-Shildt and husband, Dr. Richard Schildt, of Tulsa, Okla., and Anita Kay Bryant and husband, John, of Houston; and two grandchildren, Victoria Bryant and William Bryant, both of Houston. Arrangements are by Harvey-Young Funeral Home of Crawfordville. Mr. Harper was a retired long haul driver. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Canyon. A longtime resident of Canyon, Texas, he recently moved to Tallahassee. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Ples Harper, who served as head of West Texas State University's modern languages department and retired in 1970; and his mother, Margaret Harper, longtime Canyon civic leader, best known for her work with the musical drama "Texas." Survivors include a son, Jason Harper of Tallahassee; a daughter, Lacey Harper of Jacksonville; and a sister, Martha Johnson of Canyon. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist Church of Childress with the Rev. Johnny Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Childress Cemetery by Johnson Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Dalhart, moving to Canyon at an early age. While still in college, she began her music career as an organist in First Methodist Church of Canyon. She married Russell V. Jones on Sept. 5, 1947, in First United Methodist Church of Canyon. Both received bachelor's degrees from West Texas State University in 1947. Soon after moving to Childress, she continued her musical career as an organist for First United Methodist Church of Childress and as guest organist for other churches and various programs. She retired after 50 years of service as church organist in 1997. She was active in United Methodist Women and many other church-related organizations. She was a devoted homemaker, working tirelessly in youth projects as her children grew up. She enjoyed helping elderly friends in nursing homes and in their homes. She was preceded in death by a son, Earl Russell "Rusty" on July 27, 1994. Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Roxanne Owens and husband, Dennis, of San Antonio, and their children, Jacob, Cedric, Zachry and Brittany; a son, Dan Murray Jones and wife, Connie, of Leander, and their children, Tori and Megan; and a sister, Sue Ann Thompson of Boston and children, David, Stephen, Marc and Sharon. Wayne Moore, pastor of Clearlake Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Pampa. Mrs. Smith was born June 1, 1919, in Erath County. She married Boyd B. Smith on Dec. 24, 1935, near Alanreed. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1982. She had lived in De Soto for several years where she was a member of a quilting club. She had been a resident of Lefors and McLean for many years before moving to Perryton in 1998. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by a brother, George Williams. Survivors include two sons, James B. Smith and wife, Harlene, of Perryton and Fred B. Smith and wife, Pam, of Avon, Ind.; three sisters, Jane Herndon of McLean and Faye Flynn and Sue Green, both of Amarillo; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
